Can I upgrade from osx tiger v10.4.11 to osx Snow Leopard v10.6 for 29$ ??

I was wondering if I could upgrade from osx tiger v10.4.11 to osx Snow Leopard v10.6 for 29$ or at a lower cost than full price. I do not need to upgrade that much because 10.4.11 is so great and I hate to leave it. Paying the full price of an operating system does not make sense to me. Can I do it cheaply because I am upgrading?

No.
The $29 upgrade is from leopard to Snow Leopard.

  • Slow since upgrading from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8 Snow Leopard

    Hello,
In order to sync with my iphone I recently installed Snow Leopard on my MacBook and since then it's running very very slowly. I was wondering why this might be and what I can do to resolve it. From doing a little research it seems it might be to do with a lack of memory, but I don't seem to have that much on my mac. Any thoughts gratefully received.

Put at least 1 GB RAM for Leo to run decently or stay with Tiger, which is reasonable with 512, but also better with 1 GB. Your machine must support at least 2 GB, if not 3 or 4, put as much as supported.
download Mactracker, a database of all macs, identify your model, and see what memory you need and how much is supported. It is worth it. If you MB is not the first, early 2006 series with core duo, you may upgrade to last OS, Lion. if that first series, stop at Snow Leopard, but more memory is mandatory.
Go to upper left corner (the Apple logo), click, go to About this Mac, More Info, copy serial no., then go to a site like
    http://www.appleserialnumberinfo.com/Desktop/index.php
and see when manufactured and where + other details.

  • Upgrade from Mac OS X 10.6.8 to Snow Leopard

Ok, it's true - I haven't upgraded my laptop in a LOOONG time. I have Mac OS x 10.6.8 and I was told I needed to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.3. But whenever I try it, my laptop just turns off and restarts, I get the gray screen with the apple but that's it. It just sits there, it won't restart all the way. Then I have to do a safe restart and the Snow Leopard still isn't installed...
    What am I doing wrong?

10.6.3 is not an update of 10.6.8. 10.6.8 is the last of the Snow Leopard updates. Now you have messed up your old system, so you are going to have to erase the drive in order to re-install Snow Leopard properly.
If your computer came with a version of Snow Leopard pre-installed, then install that from the original software restore discs that came with the computer. Otherwise, use the Snow Leopard DVD you have if your computer originally came with Leopard or Tiger installed on it:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Can not boot from Mac OS X Install Disc 1, G5, Snow Leopard

    I have version 10.6.8 installed. Compter is a 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon. 6GB memory
I want to run Disk Utility and startup from the install CD that came with the computer (the grey one, disc 1, or even the retail disc Mac OS X Snow leopard, the whit one) but I CAN NOT DO IT. So frustrating.
I restart, hold down the "C" key, before the chime, after the chime, every which way, and my Mac always acts as if I am simply restarting, goes right to the login screen everytime. I tried holding down OPTION on restart to choose which to startup from, but only saw the hard drive as an option. I open System Preferences, Startup Disk and the install CD does not even show up as a choice to start from, yet the install CD shows up in the finder.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks

    OK.
According to  the knowledge base that model should have shipped with Tiger, 10.4.7.
Going to need some thought here, though. I was going to suggest a possible problem with the optical drive, but you say the DVD mounts on the desktop as a normal DVD would?
Nevertheless, do you have access to another Mac or an external HD with a bootable OS X on it (later than the Tiger version your Mac Pro shipped with)?
If so, try booting from the external, or from the other Mac using Firewire Target Disk mode, and using DU from one of those sources to repair the MP's internal HD, then try the disc(s) again.

  • Can I upgrade from version 10.4.11 to 10.5.8 in order to access mobileme?

Can I upgrade from version Tiger 10.4.11 to  Leopard 10.5.8 in order to access mobileme?, If so, how would I accomplish this action? I have already created a web site using iweb which came with my I-Mac (3 or 4 years old), and noe need to publish it on mobileme.

If you machine meets the minimum for Snow Leopard (10.6.x) then it would be easier to buy that. If the machine is capable I'd recommend upgrading to Snow Leopard. It's going to be difficult  and more expensive to get Leopard. Here are the minimum spec's for Snow Leopard:
    General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMeservice; fees and terms apply.

  • Can I upgrade from mac OSX 10.6.8 to 10.8?

Can I upgrade from mac OSX 10.6.8 to 10.8?

Same list as stedman1, but uses model numbers which is slightly more accurate.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) model number 2,1 or higher
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Xserve (Early 2009) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible.         Application Compatibility
If you have applications that you want to use that aren’t compatible, you can retain Snow Leopard and create a new partition to install Mountain Lion on or you can run Snow Leopard  server in a virtual mode.
If your computer isn't compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion.        Computer Compatibility - Lion
If you can/do upgrade, I recommend you make a copy of the installer and move it out of your Applications folder. The installer self-destructs. The copy will keep you from having to download the installer again.

  • How can i upgrade from iphoto 7.1.5 to 8.1.2 on an older iMac running OSX 10.6.8 ?

How can I upgrade from iphoto 7.1.5 to 8.1.2 on an older iMac running OSX 10.6.8 ?

With the above listed config that I have (iphoto 7.1.5 on an older iMac running OSX 10.6.8), how can I move my iPhoto library from this old iMac (2006) to my NEW iMac (2011) that is running iPhoto 9.5.1 ?
To open an iPhoto 7.1.x version in iPhoto '11 you need to run the iPhoto Library Upgrader. See this Support document:
iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrade
Download and install the upgrader,  then run it on your iPhoto 7.1.5 library. After that, iPhoto will be able to open your library and upgrade it to version 9.5.1. And you will be able to merge the libraries with if Library Manager.

  • How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

If your Mini shipped with OS X 10.7 Lion, then it was considered a 2011 build model, or before.
The Mini 2012 model, is considered a Late 2012, & the last one where RAM could be upgraded.
And it shipped with Mountain Lion 10.8, which is a fairly OK system if one had older software.
(However mine shipped in Dec 2014, with Mavericks 10.9.0, and was built in January 2014.)
There were a few different build versions of Late 2012 Mac Mini, the i5 or i7 processor,
in dual-core or quad-core, and some CTO or built-to-order versions with other specs.
You can buy Mountain Lion from online Apple Store, & use a download code emailed to you to
get the Mt. Lion 10.8 from Apple Servers; this would be about it, since Mavericks isn't available.
So hopefully that is an option you can exercise; in addition the computer may prefer more RAM.
    Good luck & happy computing!
