Can I upgrade HD to 750GB, 7200rpm on 13-Inch 2008 macbook (white)?

I've just ordered a 'Western Digital Scorpio Black 750GB, 7200rpm, 2.5-inch internal Hard Drive' to upgrade the internal HD on my Early 2008 13-inch Macbook (white). It is only subsequently I've thought to check if there may be any issues with this, and I've read conflicting information. Some sources say the maximum compatible HD memory is 500GB, some say the maximum rpm is 5400rpm, others say 750GB and 7200rpm are compatible with the 2008 13-inch Macbooks.
I don't want to open the sealed packaging of the new 750GB, 7200rpm Hard Drive if I'm going to have to return it. Can anyone conclusively advise if this Hard Drive will be compatible with my Macbook?
The Macupgrades website shows a 'Seagate Momentus' 750GB, 7200rpm drive as being compatible, but only shows the 'WD Scorprio Blue' 750GB version, which runs at a slower 5400rpm - it doesn't mention the faster Scorpio Black (7200rpm) version (scroll further down the page to view HD compatibility): http://www.macupgrades.co.uk/store/machine.php?name=macbook
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Tanja

Did you ever find out if this is possible? Did you try the drive and it worked out for you?
I'm actually considering the same drive, so I'd love to hear what happened.

I recently installed a new hard drive in a MacBook 2007 and then 10.6.3. I'd like to be able to Sync iCal to the calendars I have created on other devices (new iCloud account and an ME account). I can't upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 because the MacBook is 32 bit. Just looking for a workaround as this is not a primary device.

You should update to the latest version of Snow Leopard, 10.6.8 - you can download it here; however it's still not compatible with iCloud and though you can connect to access your email you cannot access any other of iCloud's facilities.
However some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point. I've not tried it: use at your own discretion.
    To access the email:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
Are you sure you can't upgrade to Lion? It requires an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which you may well have, though it also needs 2GB RAM so you might need to add additional RAM (might not be worth it for what you want). The published specs don't mention 32 or 64 bit. You can buy Lion by ringing the Apple Store at the number at bottom left of this page.

  • Can I upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB for my MacBook Pro 13(early 2011 2.7GHz)? And how much would it be?

Can I upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB for my MacBook Pro 13(early 2011 2.7GHz)? And how much would it be?

you can upgrade to 16GB if you wish to do so...
average price for 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 is around $50 - $75 depending on the brand.
why not spend $100 and go with 16GB 1333MHz from Crucial or Corsair.
you can get them from Amazon.com or newegg.com
see image below with 16GB Patriot Mac Series 1333MHz for $100.

  • How can I plump up my 2008 MacBook white?!

Hello clever people. I sold my fancy MacBook Pro to go travelling so have now reverted to my trusty 2008 MacBook White  and have updated to OSX 10.7.5.
I would like to know how I can beef up my performance - I know I can upgrade my memory but I want to do as much as possible so any tips from anyone who has done the same would be great!
    Specs are:
    2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    150 GB HD
Can I update my RAM and my Hard Drive? How about the processor?
    Many thanks!

You can upgrade Ram (6GB max) and the HDD, not the processor.
Biggest performance will come from fitting an SSD instead of an HDD, plus Ram.
Go to OWC and check your options.

  • Can I get my Lion os back if i reset 2008 MacBook to factory settings

Hi, i want to reset my 2008 macbook to factory settings but i have just upgraded to Lion. Can I get Lion back once the reset is complete or will I have to pay to download it again?

Keep in mind that if they ever need to re-install lion they won't be able to re-install without your apple id. But all you have to do is load recovery partition by holding command + r at startup until you see apple with spinning gear then release
Once you see the language screen continue using english then select disk utility once disk utility loads you can select mac hd or whatever you call your hard drive in the colume on the left. the select the erase tab mac sure mac os extended journaled is selected for format (Should be by default the select erase once erased close disk utility the select re-install mac os x from the list.

  • Can't upgrade from 10.8 to 10.8.1 on Macbook Pro 17" 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

When I try and upgrade on my 2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 17" from 10.8 to 10.8.1 there is no update in Software Update/App Store.
So I have downloaded the 10.8.1 patch from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1571 it says that my machine "OSX Update can't be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirments for this update."
I had no problems updating with my iMac to 10.8.
Anyone know if this a problem or is 10.8.1 update for certain models?
    Thanks in advance.

If I understand correctly you seem to be getting kernel panics. These can be caused from software and sometimes hardware. You can try the normal list of things. Reset the SMC, PMU, create a another user account and run in that account to see if the problem occurs. Also try repairing permissions from the original disc. you should also look at your battery information to see what the health of the battery is. You can do this via system profiler. I would also run Hardware test from the second install disc that came with your computer. This could help you rule out any hardware problems. Ram can be hard to troubleshoot since it can work fine one minute and not work the next. Also sometimes the hardware test can come up with false problems. I always note the problem and run the test a second time to make sure it was not a false error. If all those things do not fix the problem, I would consider doing a archive and install. This way you could rule out a software problem.
Instead of sending it in I suggest you take it to your local apple store if there is one close to you. They sometimes get repairs done faster.

  • How can i get a superdrive to work with a late 2008 macbook that already had one inside but taken out for upgrading.

I bought a superdrive thinking it would work with my macbook. i took the built in one in for a second hhd. Please help!!!!

Did you know ahead of time, that certain models of Mac cannot use the new Apple USB SuperDrive?
Usually those are ones that had an internal superdrive, as there is a firmware block or other device
that generally does not allow the external USB Superdrive from Apple to work with older Macs...
This includes iMacs or others with the built-in optical drive, MacBook/Pro of certain vintage, etc.
Since the use of the optical drive space inside the case has been used for second hard drive or
solid state drive, the need for a superdrive does not diminish once its no longer in there...
The topic of trying to make the Apple USB Superdrive to work has been mentioned online, incl here:
    https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Optical_Drive
There is mention of a way to attempt to use command line, to make the 'Apple USB superdrive' work
with older Macs that otherwise won't allow it. Be aware this may affect the warranty, it also may affect
the returns policy if it does not work out, once you mess with the firmware or command-line entries.
So that is one of the ifixit items in the link above. You should be able to find a fair deal on a different
brand of USB optical drive that does much the same thing as the Apple, and without extra drivers.
If you get some other brand, test & check it to be able to perform as needed (like a Superdrive) and
note the returns policy on this kind of product before you buy it, just in case it does not function.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • What is the newest OS I can use on a 15-inch 2008 MacBook Pro (Early/Aluminum)

I've read some of the other posts about this, but there seems to be a bit of confusion.

And there are old rusty car fans whose collection
may include the 70s Maverick and Comet twins...!
A neighbor found an old car installed as a septic upgrade.
Not sure that affected the operating system in a good way
& it took an 'expert product specialist' not a genius, to fix.
Not sure about surfing, maybe names of internet cafés?

  • Can I wirelessly display the screen of my 15 inch retina Macbook Pro to a Thunderbolt display ?

Can I wirelessly display (like via bluetooth) the screen of my 15 inch, late 2013, Retina Macbook Pro, to a thunderbolt display ?

They can fix it, but not for free. Macbook repairs supposedly are classified into 3 tiers by an Apple Rep, I for least amount of damage and III for most. I have a dent in the corner of my MBP and it would require new housing to get it fixed. $450 (tier I) or ~half the cost of a Macbook Air on education discount... HA.
If it doesn't affect your everyday computing, I wouldn't worry about it. It's awful, but welcome to the club

  • The app store in my iphone can not upgrade

As you can see, when I want to upgrade the app, it shows grey, which make I can not upgrade it.
But when I click Genius, it shows white, and recommends me apps without mistakes.
WHY?What can I do to work it out?

So you are saying that after you updated several apps - now you cannot connect to the iTunes or App Stores?
"My new iPad cannot connect to the app store and iTunes after updates from several apps"
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>Off. Set the date one year ahead. Try to update the apps again. If you get an error message, go back to the settings. Correct the date and time (set automatically) then go back and try to update the apps again.
    Or try this ...
Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services (swipe to the bottom of the page to find this)>Location Based iAds>Off.
    Or this ...
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
