Is is possible to upgrade (download??) iOS5 on an iPad 3.2.1 ?
Are you opening iTunes on your computer or on your iPad ? You need to do it by connecting the iPad to your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases (you may also want to copy photos off the iPad as well) and then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'. You may also want to copy off the iPad any important documents, notes, files etc e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case.
You can then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button.

I have been notified that I can now upgrade my iPad. I have tried about 5 times. First, I get a message that says I have rentals on my iPad that I will lose, but I don't have any rentals. Then it spends an hour updating and when it is nearly done I get an error that says the upgrade didn't happen because it lost network connection (not on my end), error -3259.
Is this a known issue? I have no trouble synching the iPad, and I synched it before I started.
Thanks.I have had exactly the same experience, which happens only with the 4.2 installation file, but never with other iStore downloads.
The download reaches 100% and moves to "processing file" before terminating with this 'network timeout -3259' error message. Given that other actions with iStore complete successfully, I can only imagine it's related to the type of file, and I cannot find any Antivirus or Firewall settings to allow it thru because nobody at iStore support can tell me what's different about this file.
For the moment I've made an appointment at the local Apple store but am hoping for a solution that will allow me to cancel that! -

If you do not know what version you are running go to Settings>General>About>Version. If you are running iOS 4, you must use iTunes. your iPad can be upgraded all the way to the latest version which is iOS 8.1.3.
If you need to use iTunes, try disabling your antivirus software and your firewall when you attempt to update. I would also restart the iPad and the computer before trying again.
There have been some iPad 2 users reporting that updating to the latest iOS did not go well for them. I believe that it is still a small percentage of the overall number of iPad 2 users that had problems and I have nothing to base my belief on other than the fact that it if really was a world wide problem as some here in this forum would have you believe, it would have been world wide news. -

As in using cellular? You can't upgrade it without selling the one you have and buying a different one.
Another option for you, look into a device like a Mifi (that's just verizon's name for it)
It's a portable wifi hotspot that uses cellular data and you can connect your ipad to it. -

My iPad 3 (new iPad) is now a year old and working perfectly with the exception of the fact that as of the past 48 hours I've been unable to update the 9 apps that I have waiting on queue. I simply get a blank black screen and since I have had no trouble updating my iPod during the same time period, I'm quite concerned about this to say the least. SamI updated my iPad to iOS 8.0.2 now I can't up date any apps. I tried resetting the iPad, I tried reinstalling the apps nothing is working. All I see on the screen is that the app is "waiting" This has started when I updated my iPad. Any suggestions? When I reset the iPad the apps go back to normal but when I try to open them they go to updating and the problem starts all over again. help me please

There is no limit to the number of times an iPad can get an iOS update. Eventually though the iOS will evolve beyond the capabilities of the specific iPad. Tis is already the case for the original iPad. That iPad can only be updated to iOS 5.1.1 and no further. So far all iPads after that continue to receive updates when Apple releases them.

Did you add or change credit card details on your account, and did you have problems getting the details accepted ? Each time that you add or change card details a small temporary store holding charge (i.e. $1) may be applied to check that the card details are correct and valid and that it's registered to exactly the same name and address as on your iTunes account - it should disappear off your account within a few days or so.

Am trying to upgrade iPad 2 to 6.1.2 and it shows error like "Unable to verify Update" you are no longer connected to the internet. But am connect to my wi-fi. Can somebody throw some light on this.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Then try again. -

After I upgraded to iOS 7.0.2 I can't sync iPad mini with PC (on Windows XP). I keep getting the folowing message: "The iPad could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchase items on this iPad". I tried everything:
1) De-authorizing and rebooting (about 100 times);
2) De-installing and reinstalling itunes;
3) Deactivating the firewall;
4) Run Diagnostics (result - all works fine including sync);
5) Tried to look for the "SC info" directory or file everyone is referring to in the Computer (Hidden files) of the iTunes directory - nothing;
6) Ticking and unticking the |Sync over Wi-Fi" option;
7) Changing backup from iCloud to this Computer and back.
I am using the admin account on my PC - doesn't help.
I cannot sync anything at all.
BTW - on the PC and on the iPad - everything that is there plays OK. I can get stuff from iStore both from iPad and from the PC - but I can't sync the two.
It looks like an iOS 7 bug to me - any ideas or advice?

D.No I have tried multiple connections, at home, at work, and even at my church but to no avail. For example I have recently purchased a CD from Itunes using my computer, but my ipad will only play it from the cloud. I've tried to download straight from my Ipad and that too does not work. When ever I try to plug the Ipad into the computer a window pops up and says that the sync has failed. If I try to drag the file to the Ipad it will say it's loading than just quit before it transfers. hmmm. I hope they get this bug fixed some. would really like to have that CD to isten to on the go. Another issue I am no having is the apps are having trouble updating. I have tried to turn off auto update and do it manually and that too is failing.
