Can I upgrade my 2006 iMac 4,1 with Intel Core Duo w/1/5GB memory, 667GHz Bus Speed, 2GHz Processor Speed to the newer OS systems?
I have been told my machine is now "vintage or obsolete" and can't be upgraded to the newest OS software.

The maximum OS for that iMac is 10.6.8.

  • I have a MacBook Pro with Intel Core Duo and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Want to upgrade to Lion to take advantage of icloud. Is there anything I can do without getting a new MacPro?

I have a MacBook Pro with Intel Core Duo and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Would like to upgrade to Lion but it requires a minimum of Intel Core 2 Duo. Can I get what I need or do I have to buy new MacBok Pro?

I also have a core duo MBP with Snow Leopard and it runs perfectly.  There are very few things it cannot do as compared to the faster, newer MBPs, but that is attributable to the CPU, not the OS.  There are some who view Lion as downgrade rather than as an improvement.  If there are important applications that reqire a fast CPU or Lion features that you find essential, by all means get a new MBP.
I have an aphorism:  Obsolescence is more often a perception rather than a reality.  Besides the silver keys look much classier than the black ones.

Do I need to upgrade to 10.5.xx? Will this platform suport 10.6.xx? If 10.6 will work do I need to install 10.5 first?
    Thanks...

Hi. Your computer can be upgraded to either Leopard 10.5 or Snow Leopard 10.6. 10.6 will be much easier to find and will be less expensive. Leopard is not required prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard.

  • I can't upgrade Lion but I have Intel Core 2Duo

I can't upgrade Lion and I have Intel Core 2Duo, but not Core i3

There are various 3rd party shops that will sell upgrade kits and instructions. It depends on how courageous you are with a soldering iron (the cpu is soldered to the motherboard).
There are also some hacks which will trick your Mac into thinking you have a Core 2 Duo so you can upgrade. I don't know how fast it will run if you do that. But I used a trick like that with my old MacBook to upgrade once when I wanted to upgrade and my actual specs didn't allow it and it worked fine.
I think trying that would be easier than upgrading the actual cpu.

  • Can the monitor be fixed on an iMac if it goes black (2006 17-inch, intel core duo)?

Can the monitor be fixed on an iMac if it goes black (2006 17-inch, intel core duo)?

Apple consider this product vintage so they won't perform any hardware service on it. You may have to look towards 3rd parties.

This is unknown, it will be up to Apple and AFAIK they haven't announced that yet.

    Hi,
the Intel Core Duo processor is a 32-bit only processor and not capable of 64-bit.
Only the Core 2 Duo and later processors are capable of 64-bit.

  • 21.5" 2.4 ghz Intel core duo with 4 GB memory iMac w/ OS X 10.5.8

my 2008 21.5" 2.4 ghz Intel core duo with 4 GB memory iMac is running OS X 10.5.8 and has recently started over heating and locking up .... even with applications that it has never had problems with before .... I don't think it's capable of being upgraded any further, right? can I upgrade the graphics card or is that even worth it?

Your tems are fine, nothing at all to worry about. One thing you can do is shut down the computer, remove the RAM plate cover on the bottom and vacuum out the air intake. As for the spinning beach balls that isn't a freeze it means a process is busy. You can run Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) and when you begin getting SBBOD look in AM and see if you see any processes using a large %CPU and also click the System Memory tab and look to see how much FREE RAM is available at that point in time. As a general rule of thumb OS X likes to have 500MB or more of FREE RAM, if you see it's at or below 500MB then a RAM upgrade is needed or you need to reduce the amount of open windows. The graphic will look similar to:
Also I'd strongly recommend carefully reading the XLab's Spinning Beach Ball of Death article. It's an excellent guide on how to trouble shoot spinning beach ball issues.

Can I run Lion on on a Intel Core Duo computer?
I have on of the Intel Core Duo  macbook.
I hope on othe apple people can answer that for me.

This is my Macbook and I seem to be able to run a depleted Lion operating system on it
no full screen on some applications. no response to multi swipe actions, No Air Drop. and so on and so on. Also when it loaded it stalled with no real information and i had to go to reload Lion which then instigated further download of 6 minutes to load a slightly amended copy of Lion. thought i had lost all my info but it did all reappear
It does have Launchpad and Mission Control but i seem to have lost my Isight camera in Photo booth and Skype. this has happened occasionaly before and a reboot brings it back for a while.
Ah well Is it time to up grade the laptop?? Do i need a laptop?? Anyway ill keep this one for a bit and see how it goes at least some of the changes work.

I have an Imac with the Intel Core Duo Processor.  Will I be able to upgrade to the new OSX Lion?

You need a Core 2 Duo or later to use Lion.  You will need to install Snow Leopard in order to access the Mac App Store to download Lion when it becomes available.

  • Upgrade to Lion if running Intel Core Duo?

I have a MacBook with the Intel Core Duo (not the Intel Core 2 Duo).  I started to upgrade to Lion and Step 1 says to make sure your Mac can run Lion.  The Intel Core Duo is not mentioned.  Does any one know if Lion can be installed at all?  I have had a Mobile Me account for about 8 years and I am trying to transition to iCloud.  What's a person suppose to do?
    Thanks!

    Lion needs Core2Duo.
You need to buy new equipment.

  • Dithered Colors in iPhoto 6 on iMac 20" Intel Core Duo with 1.5GB RAM

    Hi.
I have a 20" iMac Intel Core Duo. Shoot at 100 ISO, sRGB, with a Canon Digital Rebel XT in a studio setting. When viewing the images in iPhoto they have a noticeable dithering on the colors, especially on the seamless. Sometimes it's bad.
If I view them full screen in Comparison mode I see it there, too. Detail is intact, but the colors dither. Doesn't happen in Photoshop CS2, and I don't remember if it happens in Preview...
Any ideas of what is going on?

    Scott:
Are you running the latest Quicktime version, 7.1.5? If not that may have something to do with it. Also what color profile are the files assigned? You can check that out by viewing them with Preview and using the Summary pane of the Info window there. Are you shoot RAW and importing those files? If so there may be addition issues that I can't help you with although as I understand it iPhoto creates a jpg file from the RAW file upon import and that's what you're working with.
Make sure your monitor is set to millions. Although since CS2 doesn't show that effect I'm guessing it is set to that. But check anyway.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Why can't install adobe illustrator on macbook intel core duo?

I just bought the Macbook intel core duo, specifically so I could use Adobe Illustrator. I installed adobe CS2 and every program installed EXCEPT FOR ILLUSTRATOR! Tech support says Apple and Adobe are working on the problem. Can anyone help me?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I've installed CS2 standard on about ten Intel-based Macs and and CS2 Premium on three Intel-based Macs at work. I haven't encountered any issues. No MacBooks at work though, just Mac minis, MacBook Pros and Mac Pro towers (which don't have the Core Duo chips).
After reading your message here, I made a quick search of the Adobe support forums and couldn't find any messages there about anyone having a problem installing Illustrator CS2 on a Core Duo Mac of any kind.
Our Intel-based Macs are all up-to-date with Mac OS X 10.4.8 and all the extras like QuckTime 7.1.3. Which "tech support" did you contact? Apple or Adobe? If Adobe is aware of the issue and is working on a solution, I'm afraid there isn't much we could do to help you here.
