Can I upgrade my 2009 SSD HD to the 2010 model?

I have an April 2009 MBP with the 120 GB SSD. I have heard that this is the same SSD that went in the Macbook Airs, and has slower read speeds (48 MB/s) than the current SSDs on the new MBPs.
Question:
Can I take my MBP to my Apple store and have them switch out the old SSD for the new one? how much would it cost? how much would it cost to upgrade to a new 256 GB?
or can I order the drive from Apple and install it myself?

You can't order a drive from Apple and install it yourself, but if you could, it would undoubtedly cost more than ordering the same drive from any other vendor. So the thing to do is order the drive you want from an online vendor who offers it at a price you can stand.
There's no assurance that any two MacBook Pros of the same model will contain the same SSD. Apple buys SSDs and hard drives from several different manufacturers, undoubtedly depending on specs, pricing, current availability, and other factors known only to Apple. So although it's quite possible that some MBPs contain faster SSDs and others contain slower ones, there's no way the buyer of a MBP can specify what SSD make or model s/he wants in her/his machine — except by buying one from a third party and self-installing it.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that yes, you can have Apple install a different SSD in your MBP if you like, paying for the labor as well as the unit (at the Apple price). But you still won't be able to specify what drive model you want — only the capacity. And you won't know what you've gotten until you've paid for it.

    From what I read here:
    http://www.tuaw.com/2011/06/06/lion-...u-2-gb-of-ram/
s long as they already have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed in it.All a person needs to do with that type of iMac is to upgrade/max out their Ram. They claim that an Interl iMac with Core 2 Duo is all that is needed, as long as it has OS 10.6.8 installed. They say you don`t need  the "Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor"
But I wonder about the RAM speed, the iMac 2.33Ghz uses DDR2 SDRAM,  which I believe is rated at 667Mhz. Lion maybe installed but it might be problems running smoothly or not?
Did some quick checking and the iMacs apple is selling this year use 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM.
The only thing to do is to make sure you have a good back-up, Install your RAM and install Snow Leo, then wait a couple of hours and install Lion.
    Good Luck

  • Everytime I try to update to iOS5 on my iPhone 4 I get an error containing 0xE while it is trying to backup data from the iPhone.  I have done everything suggested in Apple support.  How can I upgrade to iOS5 without losing all the data on my phone?

Everytime I try to update to iOS5 on my iPhone 4 I get an error containing 0xE while it is backing up data from the iPhone before installing the new operating system.  I have done everything suggested in Apple support with no success.  I still get the error everytime (about 5 minutes into backing up iPhone data).  How can I upgrade to iOS5 without losing all the data on my iPhone (the error message says that if I continue I will lose all data on the phone)?  If I have already synced the phone before upgrading the OS, would I be able to restore my data after installing the new OS by syncing after the OS upgrade is complete?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.

Yes. But compare prices. Sometimes sites like Amazon have a lower price for the full product rather than the upgrade version. They are identical; so buy whichever is cheapest.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select anyiTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • HT1773 Can I upgrade to 10.5 and buy the flawed Quicken Elements?

Running 10.4.11 on an old iMac G5 and Quicken 2007 for Mac.  As of November I suddenly cannot download transactions from my bank (TD Bank).  After hours of telephone conversations with TD Bank's technical staff and Quicken Help, I have been informed that the bank transactions will no longer work on Quicken 2007 for Mac.  So, can I upgrade my 10.4.11 to a 10.5 and then buy the (Iknow badly flawed) Qucken Elements in order to maintain my Quicken bank transaction services (in place since 2003)?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Yes. Buy a retail Mac OS X 10.5 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay.

  • Can I install a 1TB SSD on MacBook Early 2008 model?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Early 2008 model running on Lion 10.7.5. Everything worked perfectly until recently I noticed that the HDD has been making some weird clicking sounds. I spoke and showed it to the local repair shop and they suggested that I have my HDD replaced asap as it could crash anytime.
Now I was wondering if I could just install a SSD on it as those run quite faster than HDD's? I did ask the local repair shop this question but they seemed not to know anything about the MacBook's compatability with the SSD as its an old model.
A quick answer would be very much helpful.
    Thanks
    -Mustafa

    • What I really wanted to know is, are the HDD and SSD connectors same? And would the MacBook be able to handle it?
Yes. Should work very well. I've done this on an old Macbook and a new one. Not difficult, but you will need a # 8 torx screw driver and a #1 Phillips.
    The connectors are standardised.
You can google for "how to" videos, there are many on line.

  • Can i upgrade my iMac desktop i5 to the i7

    can i upgrade my iMac i5 to a i7

I suggest that you post a link to where you got that information so that we can, at least, evaluate whether or not that would be a possibility. I do know on older Macs (pre-Intel) that this was possible ... and that this option was typically provided by vendors other than Apple. However, even it this is possible with your Mac, there are other considerations to take into account than just a CPU change ... like memory, other supportive circuitry, etc.
