  • Is it possible to upgrade the CPU on an MSI GX-730 laptop?

Hi.  I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to upgrade the CPU on an MSI GX-730 Laptop with an X2 Turion CPU currently in it?  And if it's possible, what other CPUs are compatable?  I was hoping to put in a Phenom mobile processor, but I am not sure if one would work in it.  Thanks.

The short answer is no, you cannot upgrade it.
The long answer is you might be able to upgrade it to a slightly better Turion, but I'm not really sure it will provide any benefit.

    Hi,

  • Can I Upgrade my OS or Should I Buy New Laptop?

OK, so I have been out of the Apple loop for quite some time. This laptop is from 2008. I love it, but the OS is too old. I can't update Firefox or download Chrome. I am a student and need to figure out a solution very very soon as Fall quarter starts next week. The college uses a site that doesn't work well with Safari, it prefers Chrome. So, I can't use my computer to do work. So, a few questions:
    1. Can I upgrade OS? If so, how? Are there problems with this?
    2. Should I just buy a new MacBook Air from Apple?
    3. I have considered buying a MacBook Air used from Ebay, Amazon or Craigslist. Please tell me if you think this is a good or bad idea and why? What to look for on used computer? Being a student, I am obviously trying to save as much money as possible. Some say Ebay is good because of the great buyer protection. Please tell me your thoughts.
I don't use the computer for anything other than school work and searching the web. I don't need anything fancy.
Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

It's a good idea to hash this out with someone at the Apple Store, who can show you the latest gear and its advantages/disadvantages. My responses are only mine; I hope others will chime in.
    1. Upgrade or update? You can't upgrade the OS, but every year, Apple updates the OS and offers features that can be quite appealing. I haven't experienced any problem with updates.
    2. You can buy a new MBA from Apple, but I strongly suggest looking at refurbs; just as good, at a reduction in price.
    3. You're safe with Amazon for the most part, though the price is nearly always retail. You can get a good machine on eBay, but it helps if you know your values and contact the seller before bidding. I don't trust Craigslist. Realize, however, that an eBay item probably won't have much or any of the original warranty, and some sellers may unload less-than-perfect machines. If you to the eBay route, insist on the return period if the machine seems to have problems.
Features you should be aware of? SSD disk size - how much space do you need? Screen size - do you want 11" or 13"? Battery issues - don't expect long battery life, though the 2013 shows an improvemen; assume you'll be using the wall adapter a lot.

  • Is it possible to upgrade the CPU or GPU of a Toshiba Notebook?

Many customers would like to upgrade/replace the CPU (Central Processing Unit) and/or GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) in their mobile systems to gain performance.
Toshiba does not support or recommend performing modifications on their mobile systems since the core components in these mobile systems are not upgradeable like in a desktop system.
    More Info: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

    Hi there,
I think what John meant to say is: it is not possible because it´s too expensive and you won´t gain some really big speed. I don´t know where you read something, but I think if you were a toshiba technician and would be familiar with electronics and the machines or especially with your machine than you won´t have a problem to exchange it.
I already tried to perform such exchange on my Satellite P20 some months ago. I can truly tell you: it didn´t bring me really some speed or performance. You will gain more performance by upgrading your RAM or your harddisk, but not with exchanging your CPU.
And it doesn´t matter which machine do you have regardless if you own a Satellite, Satellite Pro or a Tecra. The result is the same because the models have all the same componentes (but not similar hardware :) )

  • How can I upgrade my CPU in my DV4-1428DX?

I recently had the unfamous overheating GPU issue. I purchased a new CPU because I figured if the machine was opened I might as well try to upgrade. I put the new CPU in power my machine on and I continue to get the blinking caps lock and num lock. I put the old CPU in and it boots up fine. The chip im trying to use is an AMD P520 while the chip that came with my unit was an AMD RM-75. The main differences between the two and mainly the reason I tried to upgrade is that one is 25 watts versus 35 and 45nm versus 65nm. For what its worth, according to Piriforms Speccy, my motherboard is a Compal 30FB (Socket M2/S1G1). Does know why this wont work?

    Hi,
You are talking about TWO technologies here. Just for wattage alone, this is not going to work.
    Regards.

  • I have a hp dv7-1020us. Can I upgrade the CPU and if I can what is the best I can obtain?

Just recently my hp dv7-1020us CPU performance has drastically been reduced to the extent that it runs at 75 to 100% capacity all the time. It is very noticable when accessing the internet. At times my screens take up to 60-seconds to change/refresh. I see "not responding" on most web pages accessed.
I had heard that possibly a CPU upgrade would correct the issue. What I have done most recently is upgrade the memory to 8gb, installed W7 Home and also downloaded IE9. The performance issue was noticed before I made all those changes. I have two hard drives installed, both are less than 50%. I have contacted the cable company about my cable router and they have remotely tested without any issues. I have also been runing daily virus scans to see if a virus has possibly infiltrated my system. I even re-installed my previous wireless router and there was no remarkable change.
If anyone has any ideas or solutions please let me know. I am actually looking at another computer, the dm4-3090se as a fix but don't really want to spend the money. I also have a small Asus netbook with 2gb's of memory that runs faster than my hp. My phone even accesses web sites faster. Again, if anyone has any ideas please share!

    Hi:
If you are interested in upgrading the processor (which may help only a little--depending on what processor you currently have), below is the link to the service manual.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01918142.pdf
Supported processors are listed in chapter 1, page 1.
Normally when my PC's begin to get real bogged down and I have maxed out the memory as you have, I back up my files and reinstall the operating system, and get a fresh clean start.

  • Why we can't upgrade the cpu of cheaper air???

cpu upgrade is only available for the expensive model. Why ?

It's probably a business decision based on the economics of quantity. Having a better processor is generally better matched with other components that are already upgraded, and that's what the greatest number of CPU upgraders want.
The number of people buying a 2 GB i7 with a small SSD has to be pretty darn small.

  • Satellite A350 - Can I upgrade the CPU to 2.4 or 2.6Ghz

Hey, i just purchased a A350 and i have a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0ghz Processor but i want to upgrade to about 2.4-2.6ghz. These are my questions.
    1. Is it possible to do?
    2. Is it worth doing?
    3. I have a Intel Centrino sticker on the keyboard. This has confused me to do i have a Core 2 Duo or Centrino.
I have general knowledge about computers but im not a an expert. Any help would be muchly appreciated.
    Thank You.

    > 1. Is it possible to do?
Nothing is impossible but the question is if its advisable. In my opinion its not advisable. First of all the CPU upgrade will cancel your warranty. Secondly nobody would be able to say if the notebook would run stable after such upgrade and if the BIOS would support if correctly. There is a high risk of overheating because the stringer CPU creates more heat dissipation which would lead to a higher temperature
Last but not least you will not notice a big performance boost.
    >2. Is it worth doing?
In my opinion its not worth. Check the point 1.
    > 3. I have a Intel Centrino sticker on the keyboard. This has confused me to do i have a Core 2 Duo or Centrino.
Ive got a Satellite notebook equipped with CORE2 DUO T8100 (2.1GHZ) CPU and Ive got the same Intel Centrino sticker.
The Centrino sticker means that the CPU supports this technology but it does not mean that this is Centrino CPU.
For more details regarding Intel Centrino technology please check this Intel page:

  • Can i upgrade my memory for my hp dv7-6c60us laptop to 16G?

i was just wondering if i can upgrade my ramm to 8g-16g ... if its even possible..

    Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03099448.pdf
Chapter one page 5 gives the supported memory allowances.
Because you have an Intel based chipset and processor you can install 2 x 8 GB of memory for a total of 16 GB.
Had you had an AMD based chipset and processor, the maximum would have been limited to 8 GB.

  • Am I able to upgrade the powersupply and GPU on a Pavilion 500-424

I have a Pavilion 500-424 and I would like to upgrade my GPU. This pc only has a 65 watt power supply and I am wondering if this and the GPU are upgradeable.

Here is what the motherboard looks like:
It is much like a laptop. There are no expansion slots to add a video card of any kind. And the 65w power supply is external so that cannot be upgraded either. Sorry.

You can always disable the device in Device Manager itself.
As to the HP supported WLAN adapters, please see the following:
HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide
You will find a list of the possible  WLAN adapters depending on the processor type  on page 14 of 135. A list with the part numbers is to found on pages 64 and 65 of 135. All of the adapters on the were 802.11 b/g/n. Unfortunately that does not mean it dual band. The N specification provides for the 5 GHz band but it is optional, so some adapters compliant with the 802.11n support both 2.4 and 5 GHz and some just support one of them, normally the 2.4 band.
If you want to bore yourself, you may want to look at this for the various subtypes of  the 802.11 specifications.
    IEEE 802.11
Your plan to use a usb adaptor, is actually one of the things I often suggest.
    I hope this helps.

I guess it means that I need to update my iTunes version. How can I do it using my computer, since I cannot access the setup on my Apple TV thru the tv?
    thanks.

no it mean that you have to use itunes on a computer to reinstall the crashed firmware of the Apple TV and to do so you need to connect the Apple TV by a microUSB cable to the computer in question
