Can I upgrade my iMac to get better performance to run Motion 5 better?

This is what I have.  I am starting to use FCPX and Motion 5 more.  FCPX is tolerable, but Motion is a problem quite often. Is there a way to upgrade my iMac or would I have to go to something else?

Upgrade the RAM....
You could add 2 2GB modules and hope that 8GB is enough, however it would be better to use the larger modules and add 2 4GB modules for 12GB or even better the full 16GB kit.

    No. You can try Lion:
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

    can i upgrade my iMac i5 to a i7

I suggest that you post a link to where you got that information so that we can, at least, evaluate whether or not that would be a possibility. I do know on older Macs (pre-Intel) that this was possible ... and that this option was typically provided by vendors other than Apple. However, even it this is possible with your Mac, there are other considerations to take into account than just a CPU change ... like memory, other supportive circuitry, etc.

running 10.4.11... do I need to/can I upgrade in order to get iTunes 10 and sync latest ios5 devices?

If you have the following you can upgrade to Leopard:
    Leopard System requirements
You must have a Macintosh computer with:
an Intel processor or a PowerPC G4 (867 MHz or faster) or G5 processor
    a DVD drive >built-in FireWire
at least 512 MB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended for development purposes)
a built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
at least 9 GB of disk space available, or 12 GB of disk space if you install the developer tools
If you meet the following you can upgrade to Snow Leopard:
    Snow Leopard General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
And, lastly, if you meet these requirements you can upgrade to Lion:
    Lion System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space

You must upgrade to Lion to use iCloud.

  • Can I upgrade both lines and get a good deal

Can I upgrade both lines and get a very good deal even though only one line is eligible for the upgrade

What exactly do you mean by a "very good deal"? Discounts for BOTH lines??
If only one line is eligible for an upgrade, then you can only get a discounted phone for that line. You can get a new phone for the in-eligible line if you pay full price.
You'll be able to take advantage of the BOGO deals and other discounts when BOTH lines are eligible.

  • How can I upgrade my iMac G3?

Hello, I have an an old, blue, slot loading iMac with a PowerPC G3 processor running at 350MHz. This computer is running Mac OS 9.0.4. I have 65 MB of virtual memory and 64 MB of built-in memory. The hard drive storage is 7 GB and 16% full. I am connected to ethernet and currently have only Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 Macintosh Edition as my way to the internet. Please ask if you need more specs.
My goal with this computer is to upgrade the software to the most advanced the machine can handle.
Attempts to reach this goal based on forums about similar topics:
I have tried to update the firmware to 4.1.9 by downloading it to the computer I am using to write this review then copying it to a flash drive. This did not work because the iMac said it will not open the software because it could not recognize the developer. (Was this necessary?)
I have tried to update the software to Mac OS 9.1. I downloaded it to the computer I am using to write this review and burned it to a disc. I put the disc in and followed the instructions given by an apple forum post to install the software. This did not work because right before everything is about to start going my way the iMac gives the message that you have to be on an administrator account to update the software, which leads me to the next attempt. (Was this necessary?)
I have tried to override the administrator password, which has been long forgotten, by pressing command + s while the computer is booting up. This does not work since Mac OS 9 does not have a terminal. You have to have Mac OS X to access the terminal during boot. (Is there another way to override the administrator password?)
Please help me out keeping my end goal and specifications in mind! Don't be afraid to ask if you need more information!

  • HT1338 how can i upgrade my iMAC OS X 10.4.8 version to 10.7 ? Not so computer literate

How can i updgrade my iMAC OS X 10.4.8 version to 10.7 ?? I'm not so computer literate but my computer is considered old and it is in desperate need of the latest upgrade. Also, how much is the cost for upgrade?  Many thanks to you Apple folks...

    You don't require Leopard.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Can I upgrade my IMac Running Mac OS X 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion?

I'm curioous if anyone can tell me if I can upgrade my IMac running Snow Leopard can be upgraded and have the capability to run the new, more feature rich Lion software?
I'm a recent convert having just migrated from PC platform to mac and honestly I need to spend some serious quality time on my learning curve. I was browsing through the Apple Store when I saw an upgrate opportunity to Lion. Once I read the list of improvements, I was sold -- I really want Lion even if it costs an addional $300. My fear, however, is that I'll purchase the Lion software only to find out that it's incompatible with my older Mac running Snow Leopard.

  • Can I upgrade my iMac (10.6.8) with the prepackaged Lion on my new Mac Book Air?

In August I bought a new Mac Book Air prepackaged with Lion OSX.
At home I have an iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Since I purchased a copy of Lion prepackaged with the Mac Book Air, is there some way I can use my Mac Book Air copy of Lion to upgrade my iMac?
Or do I need to purchase a copy of Lion specially for the iMac?
I live in Japan, so it's hard to get clear English advice sometimes!
    Thanks

You need to buy a copy for your iMac. The version that comes with your MBA cannot be transferred.

I cannot seem to upgrade browsers until I upgrade OS, but I cannot seem to figure out whether I can actually upgrade OS - what am I missing?

You can get the latest web browser on your machine.
TenFourFox -- It's a port of the latest FireFox to run on older hardware and software.

  • Can I upgrade my iMac 10.5.8 with a copy of my Macbook Leopard?

I have an iMac 2.66mhz Intel Dual Core, etc. running Leopard 10.5.8. It is working just fine, I probably should just leave it alone, but I am also getting a Macbook for my birthday, that will be running SnowLeopard. Is it possible for me to upgrade my iMac, with the SnowLeopard disk that comes with the Macbook? Or, do I have to purchase the upgrade package for my iMac? Thanks for any info!

You'll need to purchase the upgrade...
The OS install disk that comes delivered with a Mac is specific to that type mac.

  • Can anyone confirm the yellow screen gets better

    hi all,
Im reading hundreds of posts on apple.com and across the web generally which say that the yellow tint to the iphone 4s will get better over time "after the glue sets"......  but i havent been able to find an article to confirm that anyones phone has gotten better and lost the yellow tint which makes everything look washed out.
I just got my new phone yesterday and its really bugging me to have a redundant screen output compared to my "old" phone.
My partners 4s looks the same as my old phone, but his 4s compared to my 4s is very different.
    can anyone help?
should i wait to see if it gets better?
Should i take it back?  and infact can i take it back for something like this?
Thankyou for any advice you can give

I'd take it back, I have a iPhone 4s and the screan has never been yellow

  • Can i upgrade my iMac g5 1.8 with samsung 400GB 3GB/S/8MB HD400LJ ?

Hi, I would like to upgrade hard drive for my iMac G5 1.8. I can get super price for this hard drive : Samsung 400GB 3GB/S/8MB HD400LJ . Will it work with my iMac? (i was looking in /forums.xlr8yourmac.com , but it did not find this drive)

It work - 100% for sure. I use a Western Digital SATA2 drive in my first gen G5 iMac and it works beautifully.
SATA2 is fully backwards compatible with SATA, but you will be limited to the slower SATA speeds. Since our iMacs have the SATA bus instead of a SATA2 bus it just clocks down.
    No problems at all.
For future reference, there is a great database at XLR8YourMac.com with lots of reviews and testimonials on drives that work and possible problems and solutions.
