Can I upgrade my OSX10.5.8 G5 processor to an intel processor?

Can I upgrade my OSX 10.5.8 G5 processor to a intel processor? I need to run turbo tax?

No. The two processors are so different that the motherboards aren't even the least bit similar.
Try TaxACTOnline.

Can I Upgrade my computer to Lion.  I have a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo Processor.  My computer is 6 years old.  Right now I have Snow Leopard.

I have an old iMac about that age that I upgraded to Lion to test my 3rd party applications for compatibility. It upgraded quite simply. Please backup or save all your info/etc to an external CD/DVD/Hard drive, then try to run the installer. The Lion installer will analize your Mac for compatibility before it does anything, and will alert you to it's decisision. My 17" iMac is also 2 GHZ Intel core duo. Surprisingly for many of the things I use it for it works as good as my multi thousand dollar MacPro workstation. Best of luck. But Lion isn't compatible with many third party applications and drivers for printers; scanners; etc.

  • Can i upgrade my dual 1.8 G5 processors?

was wondering if i can upgrade my dual 1.8 G5 processors to dual 2.5.
is it something i can do or am i stuck with my current set up? if so what can i do to speed it up? i have 2GB ram. new 500GB HD with the current 80GB hard drive.

Out of curiosity, what is the limitation for the upgrades? Does each logic board get "calibrated" for a specific processor type?
The bus speed on the motherboard is fixed, and the G5 processor runs at double the bus speed. Therefore, each motherboard can only be used with one specific CPU speed. So, you can only "upgrade" the processors by replacing the motherboard as well.

    I have a macmini 2,1 OSX10.6.8 with Safari 5.1.10.  Can I upgrade them?

You can upgrade to Lion. However, if you only have 2GB of RAM you might find Lion slower than Snow Leopard. You might want to consider upgrading your RAM.
See this link to buy Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
You will get a redemption code that will allow you to download.
Before upgrading to Lion, you need to verify if you have old applications that will no longer run in Lion and higher. Two that are the most mentioned are Microsoft Office 2004 and AppleWorks.
See this site to check for compatibility for other applications you might have:

This link has some great info on upgrading: Upgrading to 10.7 and above, don't forget Rosetta!

I upgraded from OSX10.5.8 to 10.9.1 but now my main application Filemaker pro 7 does not work and I get a message that it is not supported. Can someone advise or help?

FileMaker Pro 7 was released in 2004 so it is a PPC application, which means it will never run under Mavericks. Latest version of FileMaker is 13. Try a free trial version by downloading from here. See the Trial software area near the bottom.
    Best of luck.

Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
Before upgrading check that you computer meets the minimum requirements:
    Snow Leopard General requirements
      1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
      2. 1GB of memory
      3. 5GB of available disk space
      4. DVD drive for installation
      5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may
          apply.
      6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
First, you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 as stated above.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Before upgrading check that you computer meets the minimum requirements:
    Lion System Requirements
      1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or
          Xeon processor
      2. 2GB of memory
      3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
      4. 7GB of available space
      5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
      1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
      2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)

      6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
      7. Xserve (Early 2009)
    Are my applications compatible?

  • My LaCie external hard drive connected to Time Machine for data backup drops it's connection and a error message displays tell me that I did not properly disconnect the device.  This started after upgrading to OSX10.6.7.

My La Cie external hard drive drops it's connection after mounting on my iMac computer.  This problem seems to have started after upgrading to OSX10.6.7.  When I turn on my computer and than turn on the external hard drive the hard drive mounts to my disk top without any problem, but when I bring up Mail or Safari the hard drive drops its connection.  Is there a fix for this problem?  Hope someone can help.

The connection to 10.6.7 may just be a coincidence.  I had a similar problem with a disk and was about to throw it out but decided to try a different USB cable.  That fixed the problem and the drive is still in use.
Try a new cable if you have not already done so.

  • 17" 2009 mid macbook pro shutdown after upgrade to OSX10.9

    Hi,
I have a 17" mid 2009 MacBook Pro (MacBook Pro 5,2). I was running with Snow Leopard OSX10.6 with no problem. However, since Adobe and many software require later version OSX. I upgrade to OSX10.9 last week. Once I finish upgrade. I can't run my macbook with the higher performance setting (Nvidia 9600 graphic card) under battery power. It will shutdown immdeatly. Sent the machine to Apple Store. Same issue happen under OSX10.7 and 10.8. They ask me to replace the logic board. However, they can't not answer why this issue wasn't happening in OSX10.6.
I'm wondering if anyone else have the same issue?
Is this really a hardware fail?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello,
I have been working on solving a power issue on the same MacBook Pro model (mid-2009 17", 5,2).
The machine would not start when running from the battery, and would require 2 or 3 attemps before properly booting when running from AC power.
Since it is not my personal machine, the first thing we did was put the original HDD in an external USB case for its original owner.  After that, I installed a brand new copy of OS X 10.9.1 on a spare HDD I had lying around.  The original owner also claims that the machine would not boot anymore even while running on AC power, although I have not entirely been able to reproduce that issue (as stated, after 2-3 attemps the machine will boot and run for hours).
After a few tests (SMC reset, memory modules replacement, etc), I seem to have been able to make the machin crash systematically if I both :
    1. Run from battery and
    2. Use the (discrete) GeForce 9600 instead of the (integrated) GeForce 9400.
So it's basically the same problem as the one you're having !
Also OS X reports the battery as having about 670 power cycle on its belt, and as requiring service.
I am now wondering if there is an issue with some capacitance/condensator not properly soldered anymore, and not able to whitstand larger power requirement from the 9600 and/or from the boot process, while running from the battery.  I'm seriously considering a reflowing of the logics board solder, but it's quite a delicate process.  Also the report of simialr/identical issues on support forums, where customers have replaced either their battery or logics board but have seen no improvement, makes me dubious about this.  There's a very small PCB that basically handles the MagSafe power connector, and I'm wondering if a defect there might be the root cause fo these issues, so maybe I'll have a close look at this one before trying anything else.
Please, do keep me informed though this channle of you find anything worthwhile.
    Regards,
    Jeroem B.

  • TS1248 Track Pad not working correctly after upgrading to OSX10.8

I've the same issue since yeterday night after upgrading to OSX10.8 from OSX10.6. The problem I am having is only right side of the track pad is not working.. Did some one already experience this issue ?
    See screen shot
    Cheers,
    Vivek

In addtion to Altenbach's comments -
I'd recommend trying another VI function to get the power spectrum for
your signal to see if the behavior is the same.  You can find some
examples of VIs using the power spectrum functions using the NI Example
    Finder.
You can go to LabVIEW's Example Finder by going to Help >> Find Examples.
Then search for FFT. There should be some results that include FFT and
Power Spectrum Units.vi, Power Spectrum Measurement.vi, Basic Spectral Measurements.vi,  and Spectrum Measurements.vi. Try opening and
running these examples to see if the VIs are returning the proper
    results.

does HelveticaNeue clash/go wrong when you upgrade to OSX10.6
or is it if you buy the new quad core macs..
as i had a old client buy an imac, and it wont recognise any helvetica neue fonts
as apple now made its own inbuilt mac font...
    so very confusing!!!!!
will this happen on OSX or just new models of macs....

Can i check....i i were to just go ahead and upgrade, and replace all helvetica neue with the new apple one... would it have the really nice light condensed versions etc
I have being advised to make a back up..
incase i need to go back to OSX10.5...
im just very worried about not being able to fix this helvetica clash thing...
    1. Connect an external hard drive (FireWire or USB) that has sufficient free space to hold at least one copy of the contents of your Macintosh HD.
    2. Start from your Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6 Install DVD. (Insert the disc, then restart and hold the C key.)
    3. Select your language. Do not start an installation.
    4. Choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    5. Select the disk you wish to back up (your source disk, such as Macintosh HD) in the source pane on the left.
    6. Click "Verify Disk" to check the hard disk for issues. If an issue is found, click "Repair Disk" to repair.
    7. Click the "New Image" button in the toolbar.
    8. Give your image a useful name such as "04-15-2009 Macintosh HD backup". A date in the name makes it easy to tell when the backup was made.
Note: For additional security, you can encrypt the backup disk image. From the "Encryption:" pop-up menu, select either 128-bit or 256-bit AES encryption. When prompted enter a password for the encryption: Use the password assistant to help you make a good password, or see this link for information about how to choose a good password.
    9. Be sure the Save destination is a location on your external hard disk, then click "Save" to continue.
    10. Enter your admin name and password if prompted. The imaging process will begin. The time it takes to complete the imaging process depends on factors such as the amount of data on your Macintosh HD. Approximately 1 GB per minute will be imaged, depending on various factors.
    11. When the imaging process is complete, select the newly created disk image in the device pane. Then, choose Images > Scan Image for Restore... from the menu bar, and let the scan complete.
    12. Quit Disk Utility (press Command-Q). Then press Command-Q to quit the Mac OS X installer; you will be prompted to restart.
