Can I upgrade my PowerBook G4 from Mac OS X Tiger to Snow Leopard?
I am running Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 on my PowerBook G4. Can I upgrade to v10.6 Snow Leopard? Just asking because I never upgraded to v10.5 Leopard. Are there any adverse impacts of doing this for my PowerBook G4?

As Stedman says you can't go to Snow Leopard with your G4 PowerBook but if your PB meets the specs for Leopard you can upgrade to that instead.

Yes.
Instead of upgrade, you can do fresh install Lion into another partition and so you would have multiboot 10.5.8 and 10.7.
If you wish to use the the exisiting 10.5.8 partition to install 10.7 Lion, you can first create a 10.7 DVD. And use the 10.7 DVD to do installation instead.

Upgrade to 3g to iphone 4.0 and tiger to snow leopard steps advice
I'm looking for some advice on best steps for this process.
I recently upgraded my 3G phone - which is backed up on my imac, to an iphone 4.0. I run tiger 10.4.11 on it and then found out that I need 10.5.8 to get my iphone 4.0 going. I went out and bought snow leopard - as I thought it's a good time to upgrade the OS. I then found out despite having intel processors - you need more ram than I have. I have now gone out and bought 2 * 1GB RAM for about £40 from Crucial - here in the UK - should arrive in 2 days. OK - now that you've finished laughing.....
The plan : install extra RAM, install snow leopard, sync up iphone 4.0.
I'm a bit impatient though - is there a way I could use my wifes laptop - which has enough RAM to "start off" the iphone 4.0 and then sync it properly with my imac when my RAM is installed or just not worth the effort ?
Also, any tricks and traps while upgrading directly from tiger to snow leopard - I read something about cloning but I assume all I could do is do a full back up to disk (closer to 12) ?

Since, by design, the iphone syncs itunes content with ONE computer at a time, you'd be better off waiting until you get YOUR machine up & running.

I have looked at the specification requirements but I don't get it. I thought because my computer is version 10.6.8, I could do the upgrade but it won't let me. Do I need to upgrade to Lion or Snow Leopard first?

How can I restore proper PDF exports from InDesign CS3 or CS5 in Snow Leopard?
I had no problems exporting PDFs from InDesign CS3 (on a Mac Pro running 10.6.4 Snow Leopard) until this past weekend, when all the fonts appeared bitmapped or thin and raggedy, and the images lost some color depth and contrast. When I copied the InDesign document to my MacBook Pro laptop, also running 10.6.4, the PDF emerged with its original quality. Calls to Adobe support referred me to documents concerning incompatibilities between InDesign and Snow Leopard. One of these documents was several pages long, but I could not print it from the Adobe website to my HP All-In-One Officejet, because one-third of the document was hidden under a white panel. This makes the document impractical for troubleshooting, because I don't have enough screen real estate (even on a 23-inch display) to keep the document open along with all the pages and dialogue boxes needed for reference. Back to phone and chat support, I was advised to upgrade my Creative Suite Premium CS3 to CS5 ($800!!!) and purchase the latest Acrobat Pro upgrade ($200), with no guarantee that this $1,000 cost would actually solve the problem. I did download the trial version of InDesign CS5, and it did NOT solve the problem. I'm also concerned that the problem did not exist until last weekend. Prior to that, my CS3 and Snow Leopard combination worked just fine. I then checked the forums and was dismayed at the variety of problems associated with PDF files, for which there seems to be no general fix. Meanwhile, I have hundreds of ads I'm supposed to be preparing and emailing as PDF proofs to businesses around the country. I have two books of 120 and 256 pages that need to be submitted to printers in PDF format with all kinds of fonts and image files belonging to my clients. The last time I submitted a book to a printer via email, the job went perfectly. This time, and next, it's obvious I won't be able to send PDFs at all! If that's the case, my 27-year-old directory business will be unable to absorb the expenses necessary to start all over with new computers and software, and I will be out of business. Period. So-- does anyone have a way to fix this? I would surely be grateful.
David HendersonI'm on a local network, built on Apple's Airport Extreme. but I'm the only computer user on it. I use it for transferring files between the desktop computer (Apple Mac Pro) and laptop (Apple MacBook Pro) and, occasionally, to print from the laptop to a Xerox Phaser printer.
About a year ago, I added an Apple Airport Express to the network, allowing me to play iTunes music from the laptop through a Panasonic BluRay player connected to a home theatre sound system. No problems of this nature appeared with that installation.
About four months ago, we connected a DirecTV satellite receiver system to the D-Link router that carries wired network service from the desktop computer to the Xerox printer. The satellite TV system includes a series of modems that allows DVR recordings to be accessed and played from any of the TVs in the house. (As you would now perceive, I run my publishing business from my home). However, this set-up has been functioning for about four months, and I did not encounter the PDF problem until last weekend.
Now -- about the fonts.
Because of the many ads that I publish from various sponsors, it is possible that different versions of the same fonts have invaded my system. In the "missing font" alerts I get, InDesign frequently is seeking TT or T1 versions, which I replace with Adobe fonts when possible. Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium included a fairly large collection, which it keeps in one folder. The Apple OS also includes a bunch in a separate font management folder; and there are carry-over fonts that came with the business when I acquired it 10 years ago. Some of those fonts may go back 25 years to the book's inception. However, in the past several years, I have generally rebuilt all the ads that appear in my publications, substituting newer versions of fonts. Hence, the preflight program has been able to locate and include all the necessary fonts in the packages that go to the printers.
Once again, I have been able to export good PDF files for all the varieties of ads and books included in my system, until last weekend. One of the documents is built entirely with Helvetica Narrow, for which I have only one version.. Another document consists mainly of Times, and there are 3 or 4 versions of that font in the system; but the version contained in the document has not changed from when it exported properly.
So... I guess the complexities involved in the network and/or fonts could be part of the problem, as you suggest, but golly -- I hope not. The last thing I want to do is disrupt and rebuild the network or font collections. The font situation especially would set back production for months if not years, because so many individual ads and off-site clients would be involved in the process.

Technical information/errors:
You can't use this version of the applicaiton "Install mac os X" with this version of os X.
You have install mac os X 23.1.1.
And then it talks about how it cannot be used because its a power pc application.

Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer. Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the "C" key. Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.

Downgrade from Mac OS X Lion to Snow leopard
I was using the Mac OS X Lion 10.7 since 29th Oct 2011. However, I wanted to clean install lion to my computer. Therefore, after backing up all my files to a ext. HD, I erased the hard drive through utility disc. Once I did it I was unable to re boot the computer by press holding the command + R keys. Not even press holding the option key is not helping me to boot the computer. Both this options takes me to the Internet recovery system. Therefore, I realise my recovery disc is not functioning.
The problem is once the Internet recovery runs it opens the Mac OS X utilities system and gives me the reinstall option as Mac OS X Mountain lion 10.8, which I have never purchase. When I enter my Apple ID and password it promt me to enter the correct Apple ID and password, which I used to purchase the Mac OS X Mountain Lion. Since I have not purchase it continuously the system reject to download the Mac OS X to my computer.
However, I bought my iMac with Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and I am having the DVD. Once I insert the DVD to the optical drive and press hold the C key it won't boot either but prompting a '?' mark on a file icon and that's it with the DVD.
I don't have a external USB or DVD for the Mac OS X Lion and I have only the purchase date with my Credit card statement.
How can I install either snow leopard or lion to my computer. Now I am having a dead iMac
Thank you all in advance for any help.Insert the disc in the drive and reboot. After the chime hold down the Option key for a one time boot menu. If after that screen comes up you don't see the Superdrive and or Snow Leopard DVD as a boot option then the SD is bad and need to be replaced. You could then go to another Mac and create a USB install thumb drive of Snow Leopard and use that to do the reinstall.
But you do not have to repost this same question over and over again in different threads. -
Migration from Mac OS 10.3 to Snow Leopard

I'm trying to transfer the mail account and a few other things (keychain, favorites, bookmarks, etc.) from my dad's old emac running 10.3 to a newer macbook pro running snow leopard. Unfortunately there is not migration assistant on the emac and no way to get one, so I'm doing it by hand. I've already brought over all of his documents, pictures, and songs, BUT, I need to know how to bring over his mail. I thought I could just copy the mail folder from the old emac into user\library\mail on the new, but when I try to open mail, I get prompted to set up an account.

And Mail files will have to be imported, the file structure has changed a lot, generally with each new version. Sometimes you have to go through an intermediary program to convert, sometimes Thunderbird.
And may need to export into a compatible format. I know over the years using email, I've had to go through that more than a couple times. -

I just upgraded my MAC from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and then to Mountain Lion 10.8.2. When I try to access my Microsoft Office for MAC (2004 edition) files I am getting a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported. How can I access all of my save Word documents? I just want to be able to retrieve all of my documents that were in Microsoft Office for Mac (2004). If I purchase the newest version of MS office for Mac from Apple will I be able to retrieve my old documents?

I am trying to upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard. When I insert the disk and install starts, it states "This disk is used for Time Machine backups" and Mac OSX can't be installed. Does anyone know how to correct this (since Tiger doesn't have Time Machine)?

I use my original Tiger bought with MacBook Pro. But now so many applications do not support Tiger, so I decided to upgrade to SL.
But required by Apple way to do this with Mac Box Set seems to be impossible. Mac Box Set is no longer available from Apple.
Is upgrading using Snow Leopard disc, which is still in Apple Store, ok?
I will be gratefull for help.The Mac Box Set includes Mac OS X Snow Leopard, iLife ’09 and iWork ’09. If you just use the SL installer, you don't get the additional apps.
