Can I upgrade my processor in my pavilion dv7 4179nr laptop?

Can I upgrade my processor in my pavilion dv7 4179nr laptop from a 1.70 GHz to a 2.0+ GHz processor & if so, what kind & how much do they usually run?  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02642701.pdf
Supported processors can be found in chapter 1, pages 1 & 2.
Part numbers for processors can be found in chapter 3.
Enter the part number in the box at the link below and you can see what HP charges for them.

I would look on eBay and see what is for sale there.

    Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03099448.pdf
Chapter one page 5 gives the supported memory allowances.
Because you have an Intel based chipset and processor you can install 2 x 8 GB of memory for a total of 16 GB.
Had you had an AMD based chipset and processor, the maximum would have been limited to 8 GB.

  • Can I upgrade the processor?

Hi everyone!  I got in a bind a while back and had to get a PC fast. What I ended getting was HP Pavilion 23-g011 All-in-One. When I got it I thought it was okay, but as i started to work I realized its limits. I guess it has a 1.3ghz processor, which seems to be the only real issue with it, as far as i can tell. My question is, can I upgrade this processor? I've heard different things. Some say yes, others say no.  I really don't know much about this stuff, but I'm hoping someone can help me out here. Thanks!

I am sorry, but apparently the proccessor is soldered to the motherboard of the computer, so you can't upgrade it. All-in-one computers aren't designed for being upgrades (i have a pavilion 20 b010 with a 1.48GHz proccessor) and I wouldn't really have a problem with the "no upgrade" thing if the proccessors weren't so terrible! I feel you, I do alot of gaming and have to run them at like 5 fps. So to summarize it all up, you cant upgrade it.

  • Can I upgrade the processor on my laptop? If so, what processors are compatible for my system?

I have an HP Pavillion dv6-2150us, which runs an Intel Core i3 @ 2.13 GHz, 8 GB RAM and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  Can I upgrade this processor and if so, what processors are compatible to this system?

First think about memory and an SSD drive. Laptop processor upgrades are a big hassle and not cheap.

You could upgrade but since your in the same family processor your not gong to get any gains with the upgrade. Stick with your current processor.

  • Is it possible to upgrade/add a graphics card to a Pavilion dv7-7000 laptop?

I've been doing a lot of research lately, to mostly no avail, about whether or not my HP Pavilion dv7-7025dx laptop can have a dedicated GPU added to it, as currently it only has the integrated Intel HD 4000 Mobile graphics card.
Mostly I've come across the unfortunate agreement that most laptops cannot have their graphics cards upgraded/swapped out, since the graphics card is soldered on to the motherboard. However, after talking to an HP "support representative", they said they believed it was possible to add a graphics card, as long as it is compatible with the HM77 45W UMA Motherboard my computer has.
Furthermore, after finding the maitenence and service manual online for my computer ( http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03221579.pdf ) it says that it could have come with switchable graphics, specifically the Nvidia Geforce 630M or 650M.
So I am wondering, is it really at all possible to add a dedicated graphics card, either by having switchable graphics or something else? Or am I stuck with the integrated Intel HD graphics?
If I can upgrade/add a new card, where would I be able to find/buy a compatible one, and would I be able to install it myself or would I need to go to a local computer repair?
My laptop is the HP Pavilion dv7-7025dx Entertainment Notebook.
It has an Intel Core i7- 3610QM CPU @ 2.30 GHz, 8GB memory, 750GB hard drive (5400 rpm).
I am currently running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (64-bit).

    Hi,
You can't add a dedicated graphics card to the system like this. The vga is soldered to the board so no way you can just plug it in like on a desktop. However, you can buy a new motherboard with the dedicated graphics card on it. It also requires a new heat sink.
    Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03221579.pdf
You need a 682040-001 board plus 682061-001 heat sink to have a dedicated graphics card on your laptop. Have a look on ebay for the part numbers.

  • HP Pavilion DV7-7008tx Laptop - Raid 1 for two 1TB HDDs?

    HP Pavilion DV7-7008tx Laptop
    B3K25PA#ABG
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Hi,
    I have a Pavilion DV7 with two 1TB HDDs and a 32GB m-sata cache/ssd.
I would like to put the two HDDs into a RAID 1 (mirror) array.
When I enable RAID I loses the ability to boot into Windows.
I have verified that the Laptop will run the two HDDs in RAID 1 as I can run a Linux Boot disk ahd then boot into Windows 7 succesfully.
Something in the Raid /Boot  configuration is not allowing the Laptop to boot directly into Windows.
Any ideas or instruction would be helpful please?
    Regards
    Gazman

    Hello @Micro-Motive ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're having issues booting after setting up RAID 1 on your DV7-7008tx notebook.
When setting up RAID 1 mirrors you need to enable the feature and then format the drives. After they have been formatted Windows must be reinstalled. If you have not already done this, please try it now and let me know if you still have the problem.
Why: Enabling the Raid 1 feature does not automatically mirror the drives. The Boot MGR is looking for the content on both drives but is only finding it on 1 and thus fails to load.
I think it's also important to explain that setting up RAID 1 with a 32GB SSD flash along with a 1TB mechanical drive is going to drastically reduce your storage space. RAID 1 mirrors the content on both drives so it can read from both at the same time, increasing read and write speeds. The downside to this is that the mirror only works to the extent of the smallest drive. Thus, your turning your 1TB drive into a 32GB drive.
See here for more information: Chapter 19. GEOM: Modular Disk Transformation Framework This article is for FreeBSD users, an open source Unix-like operating system but the same rules apply as RAID support occurs at the BIOS level.
What you may want to do is install a hybrid drive. A hybrid drive will allow you to use the speeds of SSD at a fraction of the price. You can read about this here: Hybrid hard drives: How they work and why they matter.
Let me know if you need any more information or if installing Windows after enabling RAID 1 does not work.

    Thank  you so much indeed,
Could you please enlighten me about these points::::
Firstly: I am quite surprised that I gave you my model name and model number, and you didn't know what battery part number can be compatible with my HP laptop?
Secondly: Imagine that I need the spare part 'Cooling fan', then how could I get the part number of it since looking at it would need me to take apart all components of my laptop to get to the cooling fan?
Thirdly: I purchased my laptop from the middle east(Saudi Arabia). Even if  battery is available in the following countries (Qatar, UAE), I need to tell them about the part number of my battery to let them send me the compatible battery.
Fourthly: I need to purchase the battery at ebay.com, however, I couldn't know what part number of the battery to look for it at the ebay.com
Finally: I gave you these information below which is all what is written on the battery, and you still said 'The existing battery is the right place to check. There are more than 200 HP products use part #593554-001'
These are the information of my battery installed:
    Battery 1:

Serial number: [edited Serial Number by Moderator]
    Capacity: 55080 mw. Hour
    Volatage: 10800 mv

Also, I found on the battery a sticker on which these information below is written:

  • Can I upgrade my processor and graphics card in my HP Pavilion g6-2244sa Notebook PC?

Hi I bought this laptop 2 years ago for gaming purposes and school work. I was told by the shop assistant that it can run most fo your big games such as Call Of Duty and FIFA. Well frankly i was lied to and this laptop struggles to even play the simplest game Minecraft a game about pixelated blocks that you destroy and place and this can't even run it I am very annoyed about this and seeing if i can upgrade the machine never crossed my mind until now. So i am asking to see if it would be possible to upgrade the Hardware of this machine mainly the processor and graphics card, here are the specs of my laptop:
Processor- AMD E2-1800 APU w/ Radeon HD graphics (2CPUs) (1.80)GHz
Graphics Card - AMD Radeon HD 7340G
    RAM - 8Gb
    Memory - 1Tb
Now I am wondering if this machine's processor and graphic's card can be upgraded and if so what would be the price of it and where would be the best place and if the cost is too much would i be better off buying a new machine?
If you need more specs reply with the ones you need and i'll get them for you thank you for the help!

Put this way if that system isn't costing you 2,000US or more then it will not play Call Of Duty and FIFA regardless of what the store sales person says. To play those games your laptop has to fall into the catgory called "Gaming Laptop" Specs and those come with cost and weight to show for it. Your laptop is only good at low games resolution and will not handle graphics intensive games. Those requires Gaming Laptop specs those cost money to be had. So if you still want to Game COD style you need to put down the cash for serious Game Laptop to perform under pressure. Forget about upgrading your current system what you want is a Serious Gaming Laptop if your going to play COD.

  • Can I upgrade my processor on dv6835nr laptop

my laptop is 5 years old and I love it! Last July, the hard drive crashed; I replaced it, and reinstalled Vista OS.  Later upgraded to Windows 7..now I find it takes longer to "open" anything. Hi:
It would be hard for me to say if upgrading the processor will make a significant difference in performance.
I have never installed a processor in a notebook PC myself, so I cannot give you any first hand tips.
The information to remove and replace the processor can be found in the service manual.
You cannot upgrade the video adapter.
You can upgrade the memory, but there wouldn't be much improvement there because your notebook has 3 GB already, to just replace the 1 GB chip with a 2 GB chip.
In order to really go beyond that, you would have to puchase a 64 bit operating system, and install 2 x 4 GB of memory which the memory alone would cost over $200.00.
As far as the newer BIOS, it is possible the notebook automatically updated it once after you got it.
