Can i upgrade my RAM on a macbook air

I have a 13 inch, first generation Macbook air, and i was wondering how i would go about adding more memory to it

You cannot. The original MBA came with 2 GBs of RAM on the motherboard, and there are no memory slots for expansion. The only way for you to get more RAM is to buy another computer that can handle more RAM.

  • Can i upgrade my RAM on my MacBook Pro Retina 13 inch late 2012?

    Hello,
Since yesterday i keep getting a screen which says my Program memory is low. and it keeps pausing the programs which are currently open.
then it gives me the option to force quit them. I also did disk utility. i cleaned languages which i don't need on my macbook. and i also cleaned my Cache.
I went from like 21 GB to 33 GB free of 120 GB.
Later i got an message again. so i'm really wondering if i should upgrade my RAM. its 8 GB 1600 Mhz.
As im a graphic designer i only use adobe programs. i don't got films or anything like that which could be the problem of a lot of disk space.
So i really don't know how this is possible.
    Greetings,
    Lars

can i increase my ram capacity on my macbook air 11 inch

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro with Retina display have got the memory soldered onto the logic board, so you can't add or remove memory after buying the computer. This only happens with those computers, and you can add or remove memory in the rest of the Macs

  • Can you upgrade the hardware in a MacBook Air 2012

Hi, my name is Mark Bourke. I was given a present of a MacBook air 13" maxed out (everything upgraded to the max). It was bought for me because I liked the look of it and I had been keeping an eye on it for a while. Prior and during this I was gaming on my Xbox until I got fed up of paying the fees and started to game on my mac. I started gaming on OS 10 and then bootcamped over to Windows 7 because of the lack of games and poor support for gamepads. It was then that I realised I needed more processing power and VRAM. I looked into an eGPU and had my mind set but then I thought I would ask you if I could change the internal GPU. Then with the release of the new MacBook air's and the 4th gen Intel haswell CPU's I wondered if I would change the CPU too. Could you tell me if this is in any way possible or if I am just wasting my time. Thanks

Since the device is not user upgradeable, you will have to scoure the internet for the specifics of the logicboard, chipsets used and so on to figure out compatability and what would or would not work.  That is not general knowledge information, so you'll have to search and find it all yourself.  I'd also wager you'll end up spending as much or even more moeny than a new machine would be.
Honestly, to me, it would not be even remotely worth the effort.  Sell the current MBA and buy what you really want or need.  If PC gaming is really your big thing, I would honestly suggest getting a Windows native PC and not an Apple product in the first place (you'll get better gaming experience for less money).

you can upgrade to 16GB if you wish to do so...
average price for 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 is around $50 - $75 depending on the brand.
why not spend $100 and go with 16GB 1333MHz from Crucial or Corsair.
you can get them from Amazon.com or newegg.com
see image below with 16GB Patriot Mac Series 1333MHz for $100.

  • After upgrade to Lion OS, my MacBook Air is noisy (Heating)

after upgrade to Lion OS, my MacBook Air is noisy (Heating)

    Hi there,
I am sorry to hear that.
It seems that Lion's "demands" regarding processor power and RAM are significantly higher than those of Snow Leopard. I guess there is very little you can do - except maybe (like many of us) hope for a less processor-cycle hungry 10.7.1 update.
Moreover, if you have processes like Time Machine, Spotlight or - say - Backblaze doing extensive work in the background (as they do when you switch them on for the first time), that will also eat up a lot of processing power.
Finally, there are a lot of hardware gadgets called "notebook coolers" which are very often simply metal plates which help conducting the heat away from the "underbelly" of your MacBook Air.
Hope this helps a bit & good luck!
