Can I upgrade oracle 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.0.3 ?

os: x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
oracle:10.1.0.5
3 instances are running currently 10.1.0.5. Now I want to upgrade this with oracle 10.2.0.3 patch set p5337014_10203_Linux-x86-64
I just downloaded the patch.
My question is can we directly upgrade this patch set or first convert from 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.x.x then apply the patch set of p5337014_10203_Linux-x86-64 ?
pl. clarify

My question is can we directly upgrade this patch set
or first convert from 10.1.0.5 to 10.2.x.x then apply
the patch set of p5337014_10203_Linux-x86-64 ?
First you need to install 10.2.0.1 and then apply patch set 10.2.0.3.
You can upgrade database 10.1.0.5 Directly to 10.2.0.3
Check "Determine the Upgrade Path to the New Oracle Database 10g Release"

    Hello,
Oracle 10g XE is rather specific and, I'm not sure that you can upgrade it to 10.2.0.4 .
However, Oracle published an Upgrade Guide for Oracle Express Edition but, it's limited to *10.2.0.3*:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/server.102/b32391/toc.htm
    But be careful:
Once you have upgraded to Oracle Database 10g, you cannot downgrade back to Oracle Database Express Edition.Hope this help.

  • Upgrade Oracle database 10.2.1.0 to 11gR2 without upgrading APEX

    Hi,
How can we upgrade Oracle database 10.2.1.0 to 11gR2 without upgrading APEX? We currently have APEX 3.0 running in our 10g databases and don't want these APEX schemas to be upgraded to APEX 3.2.x during the database upgrade. We'll want to test everything before upgrading these APEX schemas manually to 4.1.1 later.
    Thanks.
    Andy

Pretty sure running the 11gR2 catalog upgrade won't touch your apex. Can't speak for using the upgrade utility, never used it.
Windows? Or *nix hosts? On windows fixing the oradim setups are more of challenge.

    1. in physical connections part can i use the same work schema
    2. Can i use same contexts created or do i need to create everything as new and then try?
    Thanks,
    Rp.
    Hi,
As you mentioned that you just upgraded the database, so the data is same and schema is same you can connect with the same work schema.
Yes, you can use the same contexts , but need to do Reverse Engineering for your new database.
And about data server, i think you also have no need to create new data server, if hostname, sid and port etc are same as these were with R11(consult with your DBAs regarding it)

  • Can we do oracle 11g software installation in parallel to SAP upgrade

    Hi Basis Expert,
I need your inputs for one of this query
The query is. Can we do oracle 11g software installation in parallel to SAP upgrade when the system is in Downtime phase.
The idea is running SAP upgrade and in parallel running oracle 11g software installation. So that we can reduced the time.
    Please share your valuable inputs.
    Regards,
    Anil Shenoy.

    yes, of course.
using different environment during the installation of the new engine, you could install the new oracle home 11 also tomorrow (including the SBP).
infact, before the ./RUNINSTALLER you have to set the environment
    setenv ORACLE_HOME /oracle/SID/112_64
    setenv ORACLE_HOME_SRC /oracle/SID/102_64
    setenv ORACLE_HOME_TGT /oracle/SID/11202
    setenv  LIBPATH $ORACLE_HOME/lib:$LIBPATH
    setenv PATH /oracle/SID/112_64/bin: $PATH

  • Where can I find all list for 'deprecated API' in upgrade Oracle 11.2.0.4 to 12c?

    Dear all:
Thanks in advance for help!  we are upgrading oracle 11.2.0.4 to 12c (most recent release).  However, so far we have a diffculty in get & confirm a complete list of 'all deprecated API' for 12c upgrade; because we need to assess this before proceed to kick-off upgrade.
Our application is written in JAVA.  The following API/parameters are recommended by others for assessment upgrade 12c impact:
    OraclePreparedStatement.setExecuteBatch()
    OraclePreparedStatement.getExecuteBatch()
    OracleCallableStatement.setExecuteBatch()
    getEndToEndMetrics
    getEndToEndECIDSequenceNumber
    setEndToEndMetrics
    setApplicationContext
    clearAllApplicationContext
Basically, which area we should look into:  JDBC, Universal Connection Pool, webLogic server, or Oracle ODBC driver? to ensure application continuity after upgrade to 12c?  I get this note today but it is for 'Java ALL API': https://docs.oracle.com/database/121/JAJDB/deprecated-list.html
Is there any metalinke Note you can refer to check?  I'll check with application team about their code writting.
    thank you very much!

Hi Srini:  sorry I wasn't able to get our applicaition full architect yet...-:((, I'm a new hire in the team, it is my 2nd week; so that's why I say 'thanks in advance to everyone' in my post.  All I know is 'App is written by Java', and probably use JDBC/ODBC to connect to DB (and by which type of connection pooling mechanism I'm not sure).
We may also have WebLogic, or app interface with OBIEE/SAP tools.
Those parameters of 'OraclePreparedStatement.setExecuteBatch' was taken in URL in my post, I feel someone write as 'to-do' in checklist but may not fully understand it.  At this moment to clarify further, we are worried if any changes like PL/SQL stored procedure, oracle library source code, API parameters that are changed in 12c from 11.2.0.4 (or 11gR2 in general) to affect the application?  is there any metalink note can help us get more info about this?
Sure I'll consider open an SR for our case, any note is also welcome because nobody here has expertise knowledge for API impacted from upgrade 11.2.0.4 to 12c.
    thank you very very much!

  • HELP! Can not install Oracle 8.1.5 w/ RedHat 6.1!

I can not get Oracle 8.1.5 to install onto Linux RedHat 6.1. The
Oracle installation script generates several errors. I have
tried several attempts, using different options, but they all
    generate errors.
Please help. The Oracle Installation scripts appear to be very
buggy... or perhaps they are incompatible with the standard
RedHat 6.1 release. Either way, it is very frustrating.
I have documented one of my (failed) installation attempts below.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom?
I am installing Oracle onto a Dell Latitude CPi PC w/ 128MB RAM,
a 366MHz Pentium II, and RedHat 6.1 (using the standard Linux
2.2.12-2 kernel). RedHat was installed using the standard "Gnome
    Workstation" configuration.
    The Oralce CD is labeled:
    "Oralce 8i Enterprise Edition
    Release 8.1.5
    for Linux
    (c) Oracle Corporation 1999"
I got this CD about one week ago at Oracle OpenWorld '99 in Los
Angeles... it should be their "latest & greatest" version so far.
    1. Pre-Installation and ./runInstall
I created an "oracle" Unix account w/ groups "oinstall" (the
primary group) and "dba" (a secondary group).
I created directories /u01 through /u04, belonging to oracle.
I setup .cshrc and sourced it, containing:
    umask 022
    setenv DISPLAY `hostname`:0
    xhost +
    setenv ORACLE_BASE /u01/app/oracle
    setenv ORACLE_HOME ${ORACLE_BASE}/product/8.1.5
    setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest
    setenv PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:${PATH}
    setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/lib
    setenv NLS_LANG US7ASCII
    I downloaded jre116_v5 and installed to /usr/local/jre.
Finally, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    cd /mnt/cdrom
    ./runInstall
Problem: I got the error (from ./runInstall):
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre.
    Please wait...
    Error in CreateOUIProcess(): -1
    : Bad address
Workaround: Executed the following commands instead:
    cd /mnt/cdrom/install/linux
    ./runIns.sh
    3. runIns.sh and root.sh
I selected the following options (from ./runIns.sh):
    Source: /mnt/cdrom/stage/products.jar
    Destination: /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.5.0.0
    Typical (585MB)
Installable Components: Oralce Intelligent Agent 8.1.5.0.0
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
    Directory for Database Files: /u02
Then (when instructed by ./runIns.sh), I attempted to execute
    (from the
    "root" Unix account):
    cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
    ./root.sh
    Problem: I got the error:
    "bash: ./root.sh: Permission denied"
The execute bit was not set.
    Workaround: I executed:
    chmod a+x root.sh
    ./root.sh
    5. Configuration Tools
The Oracle Installer (./runIns.sh) attempted to execute:
    A. Net8 Configuration Agent
    B. Oracle Database Configuration Agent
Problem: The "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" failed with
    the following error message:
"One or more tools have failed. It is recommended but not
required that these tools succeed for this installation.
You can now select these tools, read its details to examine
why they have failed, fix those problems, and retry them.
Or, you can click "Next" to continue."
When I selected the "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" for
more info, I got the following additional details (as the cause
    of the error):
"A required command line argument is missing."
    The log file
    "/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log" recorded:
"Command which is being spawned is /usr/local/jre/bin/jre
    -Duser.dir=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/assistants/dbca/jlib

Invalid Exit Code. The following result code will be used for
    configuration tool: 1
Configuration tool Oracle Database Configuration Assistant
    failed"
Workaround: There is obviously nothing I can do to fix this
problem. It appears to be an internal bug in ./runIns.sh.
Therefore, I selected "Next" and executed "dbassist" directly.
    6. dbassist
    I executed:
    dbassist
Problem: I got the following error:
    "JNLS Execution:oracle.ntpg.jnls.JNLSException
Unable to find any National Character Sets. Please
    check your Oracle installation."
Workaround: Press "OK" and ignore the error.
    7. dbassist (cont.)
    I selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
Copy existing database files from the CD
    Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest
Problem: I got the following error:
"CD-ROM drive not detected on this system.
    Database not created."
(Note: I've been running the installation scripts from the
CDROM drive this entire time. "df" shows the CDROM drive
mounted on /mnt/cdrom. "ls /mnt/cdrom" works too.)
Workaround: Abort (which generated the additional error: "Unable
to create database. DBCA-00003: No CD-ROM drive detected.") and
run dbassist again, this time using different parameters.
    8. dbassist, again
I executed "dbassist" again and selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
    Create new database files
    Hybrid
    Concurrently connected users: 5
Options: Oralce interMedia, Oralce JServer, and iM demos
    Global Database Name: cprtest2.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest2
    Create database now
Problem: I got the following error:
    "ORA-01012: not logged on"
    Workaround: Try, try again.
    9. dbassist, one last time
Executed "dbassist" once more and selected the following options:
    Create database
    Typical
    Create new database files
    Hybrid
    Concurrently connected users: 5
Options: Oralce interMedia, Oralce JServer, and interMedia
    demos
    Global Database Name: cprtest3.parkrussell.com
    SID: cprtest3
    Output creation script
Then, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
    cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/install
    setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest3
    ./sqlcprtest3.sh
Problem: I got the following output:
"Oracle Server Manager Release 3.1.5.0.0 - Production

    Workaround: Beats me.
    10. sqlplus
I attempted to execute sqlplus, but got the following error
    message:
    "/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/bin/sqlplus: Permission denied."
The execute bit was not set.
    Workaround: I executed:
    chmod a+x /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5/bin/sqlplus
    sqlplus
I gave up for now... there were just too many things wrong with
this installation, starting with the very first command I was
    supposed to execute (./runInstaller).
I can't fathom why Oracle's installation script has so many bugs.
Am I just doing something terribly wrong?
    Please help.

I'm using enlightenment version 0.15.5-41, which is more recent
than the 0.15.5-37 version (containing the Oracle installer
patch) that you recommended. Unfortunately, it fails when using
    this version.
I also tried installing Oracle using twm, with enlightenment
    disabled. This didn't help either.
Furthermore, the errors that I'm encountering in the OUI are
not just toward the end of the installation. They happen from
the very beginning, right after I enter "./runInstall", and
continue every step of the way.

  • Oracle 10g to 11g Upgrade - Oracle Clusterware problem

    Oracle10g RAC (2 Nodes) RHEL 4 64bit
    Hi All,
I have began the procedure for upgrading Oracle Clusterware to 11g. However, during the install OUI was giving me certain error messages like it couldn't transfer the OUI installlogs to node 2. Well, I kept pushing through the install and after I ran the last rootupgrade script on node 2 it gave me the following error:

Setting CRS configuration values in /crs/home/install/paramfile.crs
So I ignored the error for the time being and after that I checked the status of crs and it gave me the following:
    [oracle@vtl-rac2 crsd]$ crsstatus
    HA Resource Target State

    ora.vtl-rac2.ons ONLINE OFFLINE
    ora.vtl-rac2.vip ONLINE ONLINE on vtl-rac2
So i tried to bring it back up by doing a crs_stop -all and crs_start -all and it gave me the following error:
    vtl-rac1 : CRS-1019: Resource ora.vtl-rac2.ons (application) cannot run on vtl-rac1
Start of `ora.vtl-rac1.ons` on member `vtl-rac1` failed.

CRS-0215: Could not start resource 'ora.vtl-rac1.ons'.
CRS-0215: Could not start resource 'ora.vtl-rac2.ons'.
I am thinking that all of this is caused by the various issues I had with the install. If I am incorrect, then please let me know. If it is true, I would like to know if there are any 11g docs on how to clean up a failed clusterware upgrade. Any advice would be greatly appreciated on any of the situations I am having.
    Thank you

    Hi Chandra,
Did CVU report any problems before the upgrade? No, there were no errors reported by CVU before the upgrade.
I don't there is note out there for cleaning 11g CRS
install...and I think can very use the 10g CRS note -
239998.1.Yeah I might have to go that way.
I have both the 11g CRS install and upgrade from 10g
    to 11CRS at
    http://chandradba.blogspot.com/2007/08/oracle-11g-rac-
    install-on-red-hat-50.html
    and
    http://chandradba.blogspot.com/2008/02/oracle-10g-crs-
    upgrade-to-11g-crs.html
see if it helps.Yup, your guide is very simple, clear and error proof :) That's how mine when pretty much except right around 75% I started getting these strange errors of files not being able to be transferred to node 2. Anyways, it shouldn't be a problem as none of those errors were configuration related...or else I would have a messed up cluster.
Well, I actually rebooted both machines and now the whole CRS stack is up!! So I guess I am ok. We'll just have to wait and see.
Thanks for your help Chandra...I always appreciate it.

  • Error while upgrading Oracle SOA 10.1.3.3 to 10.1.3.5

    Hi,
Iam trying to upgrade Oracle SOA ver.10.1.3.3 to 10.1.3.5 on a windows server. The following steps were followed.
    1. SOA was stopped. Back up of the SOA folder was taken.
    2. SOA uses the default Olite database. Connected to the BPEL schema and run the upgrade_10133_10135_olite.sql script.
It errored out in the upgrade process of 10.1.3.3 to 10.1.3.4.
The esb schema upgrade script executed without error. Have any one faced similar issue? or aware of the reason? Please help me out. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
IF ORACLE DATABASE HAS ALREADY HAS ORABPEL AND ORAESB USERS, I don't know password.:
    My remarks. If you upgrade a SOA suite to a higher version, you always need to known the passwords of the Oracle dehydration store (orabpel/orawsm/oraesb). If you do not know that, call your DBA. Otherwise try: the same password as the user name or try 'welcome1'. You could also force to change the password via the system user; alter user <user> identified by <password>;
IS IT A GOOD IDEA TO UPGRADE Oracle SOA 10.1.3.1.0 to Oracle SOA 10.1.3.4.0?
Yes! 10.1.3.4 is the succeeder of 10.1.3.3, in the beginning of next year 10.1.3.5 (with WLS 10.3) will come out. Note if you use 10.1.3.4 download also the latest patchset from metalink.

  • Upgrading Oracle EM GC 10.1.0.3.0

I am running Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control Using a New Database 10.1.0.3.0 on Windows 2003 Server. I need to upgrade to the latest version of Grid Control. Looking over Upgrade instructions it appears that the earliest version of Grid Control Release 1 that I can be upgraded to 10.2.x.x is 10.1.0.4. How do I upgrade from 10.1.0.3.0 to 10.1.0.4 before upgrading to the latest release? Can I just skip that step altogether?

Do you have an option of doing a new install of base release 10.2.0.1 and then upgrade it to 10.2.0.4 ? That would be an ideal way to go ... but again is that option open to you ?

  • Upgrading oracle applications doubt

    Hi,
I am upgrading oracle applications from 11.5.10.2 to R12.1.1 in linux OEL 5.
I have successfully upgraded the db from 9.2.0.6 to 10.2.0.5. And also new R12.1.1 file system is laid.
Now following upgrade guide, updated pfile as per R12 requirement and started the db with 10.2.0.5. [ Page 3-3 in R121 upgrade guide].
The next step is to apply the patch AD 7461070 [point 9 in page 3-5 page of r121 upgrade guide].
This patch needs to be applied on R12 application owner. But in my database release_name is 11.5.10.2.
How can i apply this patch??
    Thanks
    Taher

    Hi Taher,
1). First Created the R12 code tree. [Installed 11g db. Is this 11g DB HOME is of any use].This is the default ORACLE_HOME which comes with the installer -- You do not need to use it.
Database Preparation Guidelines for an E-Business Suite Release 12.1.1 Upgrade [ID 761570.1]
2). Upgraded the DB from to 10.2.0.5. So does it mean i can use this 10.2.0.5 with both 11i and R12 just created in step 1.Not at the same time, as you will end up having R12 accessing the database (see the doc referenced above).
3). While applying the AD PATCH 7461070 i should copy adgrants to 10g ORALCE HOME. [not to 11g].
    applclone -> 11i appl. owner
applr12 -> r12 appl. ownerYes, as you are still on 10g.
I am posting the log file here. I knew that i can not apply R12 patch in 11.5.10.2 environment. What i did was i applied the patch R12_8576725 environment.
As you have asked the log file.
    AutoPatch error:

Freeing entities hash tableHave you completed all the steps as per the upgrade document and run AutoConfig. I do not think this is relevant to which env file you are sourcing, as the RELEASE_NAME column value is still 11.5.10.2 and it should be 12.x.x (as you mentioned above). So, please mention the steps you have followed to upgrade this instance.
    Thanks,
