Can I Upgrade Solaris 8 4/01 to 8/01?

I have a Dell 530MT which has P4 processors in it. Reading this forum I see that I need the 8/2001 version of Solaris 8 to install on P4s, but I only have the 4/2001 version. Is there a way to get the 8/2001 version? Is there a way to upgrade my 4/01 CDs to 8/01? Is it as simple as booting the 8/01 DCA?

You need a Mac OS X 10.6.3 DVD(the online Apple Store sells these), the Mac OS X 10.6.8 combo updater(run Software Update after installing 10.6), and Mac OS X 10.8(it's in the Mac App Store once you've reached 10.6.8, but won't work on all Intel Macs.)

  • Upgrade Solaris 8 from 10/01 to 02/02

Hi all, I need to upgrade some systems from Solaris 8 10/01 to 02/02. I use VxVM 3.2 and VxFS 3.4. I don't need to upgrade Veritas Software. I want use Live Upgrade and in all example I find (2.6 ==> 8) I have to reinstall VxVM. In my situation, is Veritas products reinstallaton mandatory?? Can I use unencapsulation and encapsulation??

    Hi,
You have to get volume manager out of the way before you upgrade solaris. You can un-encapsulate the root disk, upgrade then re-encapsulate if you want.
The way I do is as follows:
boot up normally from the vxroot disk.
    touch /etc/vx/reconfig.d/state.d/install-db
#This will stop volume manager from starting up in a normal mode. Basically stops all the volume management stuff from interferring
remove the root entries in /etc/system for veritas (e.g. rootdev:/psuedo/vxio@0:0 and set vxio:vol_rootdev_is_volume=1)
#this line tells solaris that the root volume is a veritas device. Without this removed Solaris will try to mount up the root disk as a veritas volume and fail.
    cp /etc/vfstab /etc/vfstab.old
    cp /etc/vfstab.prevm /etc/vfstab
#replaces the /etc/vfstab file with the pre-volume-manager one
    reboot the system.
It will now reboot without volume manager. Boot it all up to make sure there are no problems / errors, the do an init 0, then a boot cdrom - install or whatever to install solaris. upgrade solaris.
Machine will then reboot after Solaris has been upgraded. Re-install volume manager (might not be required if you're on the same solaris version) and re-encapsulate the root disk. Initalise the root-mirror, and mirror the root disk to the mirror (after the 2 reboots that volume manager needs)
Much easier to do the upgrade this way ;)
There are some infodocs on this procedure on the support.veritas.com knowledge base as well, if you want the `preferred veritas endorsed` method..

I set OBP diags-switch? true with diag-level set to max but no problems are reported.
Sun says the NetraX1 supports Solaris-10 but are there any caveats. It seems strange that the latest version of OBP dates to 2002. Am I trying to 'push a string' by upgrading this machine or am I doing something stupid? Any help/advice would be much appreciated. Note that the Solaris-10-u8 imaged is one I downloaded from Sun and made my own DVD but the 10/08 distribution is genuine Sun media, they both fail with the same messages.

I've tried a few other things like creating the user account in lom and most significantly tried hooking up a DVD reader in place of the second disk. The OBP must not have the driver for reading CD/DVD's as it simply wouldn't recognize the drive although I can if I boot the system from the disk under Solaris-8 and mount the CD/DVD drive.
Is there any possibility that the obp on the machine just can't handle Solaris-10?
I tried booting over the net with a mounted DVD on the host machine and using the -v switch and got the following. Can anyone interpret what's happening here? I've edited out the redundant stuff. The DVD I'm trying to boot from is a genuine Sun made DVD and not a downloaded image.

  • Upgrading Solaris 9 to Solaris 10

Hi, I need to upgrade my workstation from solaris 9 to solaris 10 by CD. And also upgrade solaris 8 to solaris 9.
Do u have any idea how to do it? Can giv step by step?
    Thanks
    regards,
    raymond

You do not need to use liveupgrade to upgrade, unless you want to learn it--it's complicated. It's good for servers and if you wish to go back to pre-upgrade. You need plenty of spare disk space.
First backup your data on your system to another hard disk or DVD.
Then stick in the installation DVD and select "Upgrade" instead of "Initial Install" when asked.

  • Sun Java Application Server 8.1 Upgrade Solaris 9 to Solaris 10

I have Sun Java Application Server 8.1 (version 8.1_02 (build b06-fcs) ) and HA which are currently installed on Solaris 9 box (Sparc).
Now, I plan to upgrade Solaris 9 to Solaris 10. What should I need to do before and after migration?
    Thanks.

Before I start, disclaimer -- I have no knowledge of Hibernate and the following comments are based on the stack trace you have included.
I think your permissions might be set all right but you might have an error in the hibernate query. It looks like hibernate uses antlr to parse the queries. While parsing the query, antlr is encountering an exceptional condition and is trying to exit the VM (by calling System.exit()). Obviously, the hibernate code does not have that permission and therefore the exception is logged.
My guess is if you fix the query such that hibernate/antlr can parse it, you will not run into this error.
    Hope this helps,

The file just loaded does not appear to be executable.Things seem to be pointing to a faulty disk. When I ran fsck on the two mirrored boot slices I got errors. It eventually fixed them up after running fsck a few times. Still can't boot though.

  • Can I upgrade my Sony Laptop's Graphic Card?

My laptop is relatively new and I only bought it a few months ago, model #VPCEB. It currently has a 512 MB ATI Radeon HD 5470 which I want to upgrade so I can have StarCraft II run smoothly because it is kind of choppy right now. I just want to know, is there a way I can actually upgrade my computer and what would be a good graphics card?

It used to be that some laptops would come with 2-3 options of graphics chipsets, and you could swap between them, plus manufacturers might use the same form factor for a series of laptops (For example, all Dell Inspiron 8000 series units used the same card form factor - so you could upgrade an I8000 to the graphics chipset that came with the I8200).  This is no longer the case, even the highend gaming laptops don't have upgradeable graphics.

  • Can I upgrade my HP ENVY 14 DR DRE Laptop to a blueray and SSD drive?

    HI all,
Can I upgrade my HP ENVY 14 DR DRE Laptop to a blue ray and SSD drive?
    cheers

You can upgrade from HDD to SSD drive, but will not recommend it as it will void the warranty on the unit.
Pertaining to  bluray drive, you might have some compatibility issues unless you find the right model.

  • Hi,please suggest me some games for Compaq CQ62-105TU Laptop. Can I upgrade my laptop's graphics card

Hi,please suggest me some games for Compaq CQ62-105TU Laptop. Can I upgrade my laptop's graphics card

Unfortunately, you cannot upgrade the processor or graphics card on this laptop.
Here is a page from CPU-World that gives the specs for your processor:
    http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bobcat/AMD-E%20Series%20E2-1800.html
You will see down near the bottom of the page that it is not upgradeable. Some laptops come with the processor soldered to the motherboard. Almost all laptop graphics are this way. The only way that you would be able to get a faster processor/better graphics for this laptop would be to purchase a brand new motherboard. You can do an Ebay search for 'HP G6 motherboard' to see what average prices are if you want to go this route.
