Can I upgrade the Intel Core Duo processor to an Intel Core Duo 2 processor in my 2005 I-mac 4,1

I have an I-Mac 4,1  from 2005-6 with the IntelCore Duo processor and would like to use Lion. I need Intel Core Duo2  to do so. Can my I-Mac be upgraded with a different processor to run Lion? I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8

Unfortunately, your reply didn't show up until this morning (the delays are becoming more than annoying) ......
Who is talking about a Mac Pro? I thought the OP was inquiring about their iMac's processor? Or are we being facetious (not that you would ever do that now, would you??).

  • Power PC G5 - can I upgrade the processor?

    Hello,
I have had my G5 since 2004, I love it. I have only ever had to upgrade the memory in the years I have had it. However, now that the processor is no longer used I can not upgrade the OS any further and many new programs both Apple and other will not work with my computer. So... I face a dilemma, I see no reason to get rid of a perfectly working computer. I would like to see if it is possible to just upgrade some parts. If so do I need to go to the Apple store, or can I find a savvy computer guy to just fix my compie up?
    Thank you!

Hi kpdub, and a warm welcome to the forums!
You can't upgrade the CPU, but you can upgrade the OS to 10.5.8.
    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
    * Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    minimum system requirements
    * 512MB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
You have to call Apple &likely ask for a Product Specialist to get it, if they still have it!

You could upgrade but since your in the same family processor your not gong to get any gains with the upgrade. Stick with your current processor.

Unfortunately yes, but Snow Leopard is still a great OS in the meantime so don't rush in too quick if you really don't need to.

  • Can one upgrade the graphic card for Imac (intel based)?

can one upgrade the graphic card in an Imac (intel based)?

While anything is theoretically possible, you would need to find another GPU that is compatible with your specific model iMac, and you would need to modify OS X to use a driver appropriate for whatever you propose to install. Future OS X updates would break it in short order. Not only that, you'd void whatever warranty that remains. It's not worth it.

  • I have a MacBookPro5,1 using OSX 10.6.8 can I upgrade the OSX to 10.7 in order to use Norton Multi-Device?

I have a MacBookPro5,1 using OSX 10.6.8 can I upgrade the OSX to 10.7 in order to use Norton Multi-Device?

You can upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
            3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • L750: Can I upgrade the 1366x768 screen to a 1920x1080 screen?

My Satellite L750 computer has a 1366x768 screen. It also has a GPU called: Intel HD Graphics 2000 (device id 0106). The max resolution should be 2560x1600 (https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-2nd-generation-intel-core-processor-graphics-hd-graphics)  I also note that I can connect an external screen of 1920x1080 with no problem. Now the question: Can I upgrade the 1366x768 screen to a 1920x1080 screen?

That is not true. As a matter of fact I bought such a screen. I wrote about that experience here: http://www.emagnusandersson.com/Upgrade_laptop_screen_to_FHD

I just bought my macbook pro 13 inch mid 2012. I am wondering can i upgrade the graphic card to NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M discrete processor with up to 1GB of video memory?

Nope - you're stuck with the Intel 4000. If you wanted a higher-performance GPU, you should have bought a 15".

    Hi,
Upgrading graphics chips on laptops is very difficult and mostly impossible because the chips are soldered to the motherboard. You can upgrade the graphics chip by replacing the motherboard with a compatible one which has a more powerful graphics chip. In your case it is a mobo with an Nvidia GF GT650M with 2GB of DDR5 RAM. However, the motherboard costs approx $600. The part number you need is:  682040-001.
It looks like M7series laptops are compatible with Dv7-6000 series laptops. See a service manual:

I have just bought a trackpad.
    Appareently you need OS 10.7
    My Imac is 10.5.8
    Can I upgrade the software?

Read the system specifications on the MTP's box, it says:
    System Requirements
    Bluetooth-enabled Mac computer
    Two AA batteries (included)
OS X Snow Leopard v10.6.4 or later
Here are the System Requirements for Snow Leopard, if your system meets or exceeds them then  yes you can update your computer. Snow Leopard is still available from Apple's online store for $29.
    System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple's MobileMeservice; fees and terms apply.

If they are the grey discs which came with the iMac, then they will be machine specific and will not work on the MBP anyway. You will need to purchase a retail copy of Snow Leopard from the Apple Store for about $29 and upgrade from that. I presume your MBP is Intel and not G4.

  • Can you upgrade the graphics on a macbook?

I am wondering if you can upgrade the graphics card on a macbook. I've looked in the online apple store but all of the graphic cards are for mac pros or macs with G3-5 processors.
Do the current graphics on a macbook prevent you from playing games on windows when running bootcamp? I mostly play command and conquer, not a graphically demanding game. thanks.

NO, you can't upgrade the graphics card. If it's not that demanding then it would most likely be fine.

  • Can you upgrade the Apple MacBook MB466LL/A to 8gb ram

can you upgrade the Apple MacBook MB466LL/A to 8gb ram

Apple only tests the MacBook with the RAM that's affordable at the time of manufacture. At that time 4gb RAM sticks ran about $400 each. Once they've tested them they never go back as the RAM drops in price since they're on to the next model by then.
So (Apple) means what they first tested the MacBook at. (Actual) means how much RAM the MacBook is capable of handling.
