you can upgrade to 16GB if you wish to do so...
average price for 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 is around $50 - $75 depending on the brand.
why not spend $100 and go with 16GB 1333MHz from Crucial or Corsair.
you can get them from Amazon.com or newegg.com
see image below with 16GB Patriot Mac Series 1333MHz for $100.

  • Can I upgrade the ram memory of my Macbook air from 4gb to 8gb?

Anybody knows if I can upgrade the ram memory of a Macbook Air from 4gb to 8gb?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The memory in the MacBook Air is soldered onto the logic board, so you can't upgrade RAM after buying your computer. It's important to buy your MacBook Air with the amount of memory you will use because you won't be able to install more RAM

  • Can you upgrade the RAM on a Retina Display Macbook Pro?

So I've been looking around for information on whether the RAM on a Retina Macbook Pro can be upgraded and the mixed messages have left me confused. If I take my Macbook Pro (Retina Display) to an Apple store for a RAM upgrade and offer to pay them for the RAM and installation, would they do it for me?
Thanks and if you can't, please explain why.
I am aware that the RAM is soldered into the motherboard making it very difficult to perform the upgrade, but will some stores actually do it for you?

The MacBook Pro with Retina display is soldered onto the logic board, so RAM can't be added without replacing the logic board.
I know there are shops that may try to add more RAM without replacing the logic board, but they aren't official resellers and if something happens, the warranty will be voided. Apple won't do it.
If you want, you can sell your MacBook Pro and get another one with more RAM. It's the best way to do it, because I don't think you want to spend a lot of money replacing the logic board or you want to take it to a non-official technical support, putting the Mac in risk

  • Can i upgrade the RAM on a new macbook air? (thinking 8GB)

    that's the question.

    no, you cannot.
the RAM is not upgradeable because it is seal on the motherboard originally from apple factory.

  • Is upgrading the RAM worth the money?

We have a dual G5 (2.0) Cluster Node that I want to turn into a full-time Compressor render machine. The primary task this Xserve will do is transcode DV material from Final Cut Pro workstation into MPEG-2 and h.264 programs. I will be connecting an XRAID to it for storage and it sits on a 1000baseT network as well. We currently have just 2 Gb of RAM in it. I am wondering if I will see a significant decrease in rendering time if I max out the RAM. Or, is render speed only a factor of processor power? Thanks!

I have not loaded Compressor yet. I am waiting for my new FCP Studio 2 to arrive. I need to transcode a lot (4000 hours worth) of MPEG-2 program streams. Compressor 2 could not even open these files. I have tested them on a MacPro running Comp 3 at the Apple Store and everything worked fine. I only have the dual G5 cluster to dedicate to this task and just want to help it out the best I can. Upgrading the RAM seems like a cheap and quick thing to do. I know the OS in general runs better with more RAM. I was just wondering how RAM is utilized in the rendering process. I suppose more RAM means less reads from the drives and thus may increase speed but by how much? Would I even notice?

  • Can you upgrade the Apple MacBook MB466LL/A to 8gb ram

can you upgrade the Apple MacBook MB466LL/A to 8gb ram

Apple only tests the MacBook with the RAM that's affordable at the time of manufacture. At that time 4gb RAM sticks ran about $400 each. Once they've tested them they never go back as the RAM drops in price since they're on to the next model by then.
So (Apple) means what they first tested the MacBook at. (Actual) means how much RAM the MacBook is capable of handling.

  • Can i send in my macbook air to upgrade the ram

i would like to know if i can send my macbook air in to apple to upgrade the ram?

They don't want hands poking around inside then a zillion calls from the hipsters that fried their mother boards.
Actually the reason is that, even on the 2012 models, the RAM is still soldered directly to the logic board.  If you order it with 8GB, it is manufactured with 8GB... it isnt' upgraded after the manufacture.  This is no different than the 2GB and 4GB options on previous Airs... only now you have an 8GB option.

  • I want to upgrade my ram from 4GBs to 8GBs, can you help me?

    Dear Apple company,
I have a Macbook 5,4, but I want to upgrade its RAM from 4GBS to 8GBs, can you help me this quest?
                                                                                                                     Thanks,
                                                                                                                     Trung Duc

This is a customer forum, and not Apple folks.  If you wish official or formal Apple assistance, please call Apple directly or visit your local Apple store, or check directly with an Apple reseller.
I don't immediately see a MacBook5,4 around, but I do see a Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz 15" model MC118LL/A Mid-2009, and that configuration does reportedly support up to 8 GB of memory per the Apple Specs.
Apple might not stock or offer memory upgrades that far back (but do ask them), though I'd expect various third-party memory providers will likely still have some 4 GB 1066 MHz SO-DIMM DDR3 memory sticks around.
But if yours is really a MacBook5,4 model here — the closest I can find is a MacBook5,2 — then ignore this.

I don't see any DDR3L on the page for the RAM that would fit your model -> http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_133 3MHz_SDRAM.
But the answer is that it doesn't really matter - just make certain to get 1333MHz.
    Good luck,

Yes that is your best bet.  Without looking at it too closely double check your options here:
