Can I upgrade to 10.5 on power pc g4 mac mini?
Processor Type:
PowerPC G4
Processor Speed:
1.25 GHz
                                                                                      Memory:
256 MB

You need to upgrade your RAM for any performance! At least 1GB.
Crucial link for your 1.25 here.
You may need to switch to the US store via the flag at the top.
Biggest problem is getting the retail Leopard disc. You may be able to get one from Apple Phone Sales still, but expect to pay $100 - $130.
Amazon had some for $180 and up last time I looked.

following upgrade to osx 10.8.2 on my mac mini I can no longer connect to icloud, I wouldn't mind so much but I have come to rely on th eicloud services to manage my work and home services, has any1 else experienced this and has any1 any solutions as this is messed up all of my work relations?

Had the same problem this morning after updating to 10.8.2. Mail was finding my dot-mac account as always, but System Preferences popped up and said my iCloud password was incorrect. Did the "forgot password" reset, but still had the same problem. Then I went to icloud.com in Safari, logged in with the new password, it worked no problem. So I went back to the icloud preference pane, signed out of icloud, answered yes to all the warnings about data being deleted from my mac, blah blah blah, then re-signed in to icloud. Everything worked. I did have to set up my icloud account in Mail again, which now lists the account mailbox as "iCloud", and not "mac.com" as it did before. But so far, everything is working (fingers crossed.)

  • Upgrading from 10 year old G4-400 to Mac Mini - what old files work?

Even tho' my old G4 (OS 10.3.9) still works, I'm upgrading to a Mac Mini (MB464LL/A) (2 GHz, 2 GB, 320 GB) with Leopard (Snow Leopard included, not installed). Since the eBay listing didn't mention including iLife or iWorks, will I be able to read my old Appleworks 6 documents? I assume that I'll have to get a Photoshop upgrade to see my old docs from Version 8.
Any other apps needed? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You can still use Appleworks. I have a brand new mac mini with Snow Leopard and use Appleworks every day. Still runs perfectly fine. Rosetta I believe is the software Apple includes to run older programs like Appleworks. You could probably run all your old programs.
Photoshop? You'd be better off getting at least a upgrade to the first version that ran on Intel macs. CS3. Or of course, CS5. Other programs vary. I use Office Mac 2004 every day...no upgrade needed. I use CS4, haven't gotten CS5 yet. Runs fine.
With Leopard, you'll be fine for most things. The best way to find out for sure though, is to just install things and give it a go. Some will be fine, some will run slowly, or not install. Give us a list of all your programs other than Appleworks and Photoshop, and someone can chime in with their experience.
iWorks will open Appleworks. I tried it a few times.
Can you do 4 gigs of ram in the 2ghz model? Don't recall. Might be nice to throw 4 in there. Not necessary though.

Maybe you are looking to re-purpose this equipment versus getting rid of it if so, the best thing to do is search the internet for tutorials.  And I say this because it's what I would do, there are a lot of tutorials online.    Hope you can find good use for them.  Worse case scenario if you can't find something right now, package them very nicely and when you come across something unbox and enjoy.  I've re-purposed a mac color classic and LOVE IT!!

  • HT1338 Why can't I install Leopard for PowerPC on my old Mac Mini?

Why can't I install Leopard for PowerPC on my old Mac Mini? The massage "This can not be installed on this computer" appears.

My thoughts are that your difficulties could be one of these:
your non-retail DVD may only work on a very limited range of Mac minis
the installer may not like your new RAM
the installer may not like the language change especially if the disk has not been erased first
I have seen a little evidence for 3 in the code of other Leopard install DVDs - they appear to have less stringent language checks for erased volumes. Whilst I have never modified model specific installers I have modified retail installers to ignore speed and RAM checks.
    My advice:
back up your whole mini hard disk to an external disk - see notes
erase the hard disk and partition into 2 volumes with Leopard install DVD
try to install Leopard on one volume
put original OS on the other volume
    Notes:
Carbon Copy Cloner can be used to backup the whole hard disk
ensure the mini can be booted from the external disk before you erase the internal disk

  • Can i install an entire Xp in my intel based mac mini?

can i install an entire Xp in my intel based mac mini?
    no boot camp.
how to do that if impossible?

    Hi Matthew!
Boot Camp will be the closest you'll come to your goal. A Mac is afterall intended to run Mac OS software first and foremost and Windows is only a secondary OS. But it is possible to boot into Windows after using Boot Camp to get it installed and then delete the Mac partition. You can always reinstall the Mac OS later.
Or you can still use Boot Camp to get Windows installed and just never boot back into Mac OS X (leaving it on its own partition). But why have Apple hardware just to do that? You'd be better off selling your Mac Mini and purchasing an Intel machine that will run Windows natively.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Created three new users without Apple IDs and they can't log into either of my Macbook Pro or Mac Mini running Mountain Lion.

I have created three new users without Apple IDs and they can't log into either of my Macbook Pro or Mac Mini running Mountain Lion.  These accounts are for my kids and originally were setup with parental controls and time constraints.  Thinking this was the problem I removed the time constraints, removed the parental controls, deleted and re-added them, and made them standard users.  I have reinstalled, used disk utility to repair permissions, and made them admins.   Any help is appreciated.

Users don't need Apple ID's. That's not the issue. Have you tried repairing permissions their accounts?

Repairing User Permissions in OS X Lion
You’ll need to reboot to perform this, and then use the same resetpassword utility that is used to change passwords in Lion, but instead choosing a hidden option.
When you use the Disk Utility app and Repair Permissions — it doesn’t actually repair the permission settings on folders and files in your Home folder where your documents and personal applications reside.
In Lion, there is an additional Repair Permissions application utility hidden away. This tool is located inside boot Repair Utilities. Here’s how to access it.
Restart Lion and hold down the Command and R keys.    You will boot into the Repair Utilities screen. On top, in the Menu Bar click the Utilities item then select Terminal.
In the Terminal window, type resetpassword and hit Return.
The Password reset utility launches, but you’re not going to reset the password. Instead, click on the icon for your Mac’s hard drive at the top. From the drop-down below it, select the user account where you are having issues.
At the bottom of the window, you’ll see an area labeled ‘Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs’. Click the Reset button there.
The reset process takes a couple of minutes. When it’s done, quit the programs you’ve opened and restart your Mac. Notice that ‘Spotlight’ starts re-indexing immediately.

Why can´t I see other devices with Bluetooth from my Mac Mini?

Be sure nothing is on top of the Mac Mini. BT and Wi-Fi antennas are just beyond the top. If something is onto the Mac Mini, wireless job will not be OK.

  • Can I upgrade to OS X v10.5 on my mac?  don't have original 10.4.11 discs..

I could really use some help if anyone is knowledgeable on this. I have 2 questions.
Can I run OS X v 10.5 on my mac or is it too old/incompatible? See model/specs below. Also, I bought this from a college auction and didn't receive any of the original software discs. IF I can run v 10.5 on this model, do I need the original install discs for Tiger or is the Leopard upgrade DVD all I need?
Here are the specs for my mac:
    Machine Name: iMac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac8,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
    Number Of CPUs: 1

L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 600 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.5f1
    Thank You!!!!

I was waiting to buy a retail version of leopard if I am able to install. Do you have a link where I can track down RAM for this model, the upgrade to 2GB? I have found a few sites but don't want to get the wrong brand or hit any other road blocks.
my favorite site for this is OWC

  • Can I upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion on my Mac Book OS X 10.6.8?

Can I Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion If I'm using a Mac Book using Mac OS X 10.6.8?

To upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion you need to make sure that your machine is suited to these requirements:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2 GB of RAM
8 GB of free disk space
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
In such case, you can purchase a distribution OS X Mountain Lion in the Mac App Store for example.

  • What is the upgrade path for osx ver 10.4.11 on a power pc g4 mac mini?

We recently set our old Mac Mini back up.  It has a 1.24 ghz PowerPC G4 with 1 gb of ddr sdram.  How do we upgrade the os on this system?  We have applied all security updates available in the Apple Update.

I believe that the best you can do is to upgrade to Leopard. You would have to look around to find an upgrade disk.
Snow Leopard requires an intel processor.
