Can i upgrade to 16gb on macbook pro 13 late 2011?

hello, i have a macbook 13 inch late 2011, 2.8 ghz and i want to upgrade from 4gb to 16gb… is it possible? i want to add 8g + 4g cards

I too have a MBP 13" late 2011. I was going to upgrade the RAM to 8 GB. I just realized I ordered 1xcard of 8GB instead of 2xcards of 4 each. I was going to return it and order 2x4GB but the seller: Quantum Technology is telling me I can still use the 8GB I ordered with the existing 2GB card that came with the MBP. They are telling me its not optimized but the MBP will recognize all 10 GB and the extra 2GB will make up for it. Is that so?
Would it be better to use 10GB (made up of 2 and 8 BG) or replace it for a total of 8GB made up of 4+4?
Lastely: Does anybody know if Quantum Technology is reputable?
I'm new to the Mac and really appreciate your input! Thanks!

After upgrading to yosemite my macbook pro late 2011 does a random sound from time to time. Its completely random and i already checked all apps in use and its not from them.

    Sounds like Notifications app.
Maybe some other app. In SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems tab: remove all entries with the minus sign underneath. This will not uninstall anything, you have to start those apps by hand now. Restart.
    Still there?
Yes: Restart again while holding the shift key, this will start the mac in SafeMode: only the necessary items are loaded to run.
    Still there?
Yes: Make an etrecheck list and post it here.
No: Restart, put the items in the LoginItems back, one by one, restart after each entry, and you will find the "culprit"

  • Can we add graphic card to macbook pro late 2011

I'm sorry, but you can only replace the hard drive and the RAM. The rest of the hardware is soldered onto the logic board, so it's not possible to replace it

  • Upgrades for Faster Performance Macbook Pro Late 2011?

    Hey!
I'm a pro photographer and amateur - entry level video editor. I do lots of photoshop and lightroom works and lately I've been doing lots of Final Cut Prox stuff as well. Basically, i handle lots of media, which is probably the worst scenario for having low budget for equipment.
Anyways, I have a Late 2011 Macbook Pro with 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 processor. 4GB Ram (2x2GB). Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB running OS X 10.9.5.
I was so excited to get a new system because my macbook wasn't running softwares as smoothly as I needed them (srsly, 4gb is not good for anything on this business) so after a bunch of research I created a nice custom pc and ordered all the parts. My main idea was to create a beast custom pc and selling my mbpro to have a mb air which was portable and in which i could do all my university and low-end stuff that didnt require much work. Just minutes after that I thought about upgrading my macbook pro, but i was so hooked on the fact that the first time i bought this macbook the store guy was all like "you can't upgrade anything on this model" and i just never thought about it until now. Then, i now realise that i could actually upgrade to 8GB (16gb NOT according to apple but according to other forums and Crucial's site) and I can boost the HDD to 1TB or get a 500GB SSD.
So, I was wondering a few things. I was also planning on selling my mbpro because the weight is a pain sometimes (carrying on my backpack all day and such) but i think i could deal with that... idk. Also, I spent a lot of money that i could use for more important stuff on the custom pc.. I was thinking maybe on getting all those parts (can't send them back now) and selling them as new, which they are, i could get back allt he money i spent and a little bit more and spend part of it upgrading my macbookpro but, will that setup be good for amateur.ish-entry level media work? I repeat, i use lots of lightroom ,photoshop and fcprox and planning to use Lightworks (if it runs).
Can i really upgrade to up to 16GB? will that cause any issues or is it safe to go for 8GB? what about 12GB?. Is the GPU gonna be an issue? Can i upgrade to both an HDD AND an SSD on this system or i can only use one of the two? Also,  i just read someone saying that they took out the optical drive to put in the HDD and replace the HDD slot with the SSD so they have the 2 drives. IS that possible?? Any pro advice is appreciated.
Any tips and considerations would be nice
    Thanks.

Can you upgrade to 16GB of RAM? Yes. Apple does not support this, but it can be done successfully and it does work. Do you need 16GB or RAM? Not necessary. More than likely 8GB will do the job.
Is the GPU going to be an issue? No.
Can you upgrade to both a HDD and SSD? Yes. You already have an HDD or Hard Disk Drive installed. That is your traditional 5400 RPM hard drive. Take a look at this option if you can give up having an internal super drive (disk drive): http://www.macworld.com/article/2082572/advice-from-an-apple-tech-how-to-replace -the-optical-drive-in-a-unibody-macbook-pro-with-a-second-h.html It allows you to have two different hard drives in your Mac at one time. You can install a second drive where the super drive is located after it is removed.

  • How can I transfer data (iTunes/iPhoto) MacBook Pro (Late 2011) to my brand new iMac 27" - Apple Support couldn't help me and did not make the promised call-back

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro 13" and bought a brand new iMac 27" last week.
I tried to transfer data (musdic & photos) via Thunderbolt, but i did not run, my system always
tries to transfer data via WLAN, but that would last more than 80 hours.
I tried to get some help from the Apple Support, but unfortunately they couldn't help me.
A promised call-back from the next higher support-level has not been done.
Does anybody know what the problem might be.
    The Thunderbolt-cable is brand new.

Instead of using Migration Assistant, the best way is to use the Target Disk Mode, so you will save headaches (Migration Assistant creates a new user with the transferred data).
To do this, just connect both Macs with the Thunderbolt cable, and then, start the MacBook Pro holding the T key, so a Thunderbolt or FireWire icon should appear on the display. After that, go to the iMac, open Finder, and the hard drive of the MacBook Pro will appear on the Finder sidebar as an external drive, under "Devices". Just access to it, go to the folders with your iTunes and iPhoto libraries, and copy them to the iMac

    Unfortunately, no you can't.
Just to be clear.  Your computer will support AirPlay it's just AirPlay Mirroring that requires newer hardware.

  • 16GB HYNIX for my MacBook Pro late 2011

It is taking me so long to find a 16GB memory by hynix (8X2) to install in my Macbook Pro late 2011 . 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 . 1333MHz DDR3 .
Need a to upgrade and i think that i need a 204PINN SODIMM
    DDR#-PC3-10600 .cl9 Unbeffered.NON - ECC 1.35V.1024MegX64.
Please correct me if I am wrong . And if you can assist me where to get it Or maybe SAMSUNG Memory .,Either one is Good but do not Prefere ather kinds.
    Best regards to all.
    Sam

I actually prefer Crucial - I have the same model as you, but I've 16GB of Corsair in my machine. Had I to do it over again, I'd buy Crucial (particulary now that the prices have come down).
Go to the Crucial website and use the System Scanner tab - it will let you know your upgrade options. Your machine, like mine, uses  204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMMs. I don't know a thing about Hynix, but Samsung is good as well - I just prefer dealing with Mac specialists.

    I found a similar question on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/2560x1080-resolution-macbook-resolution-option-/forum/Fx15 6DUSW1J104N/Tx14L2NHT4Y3F8K/1/ref=cm_cd_ql_tlc_al?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B00JM99DIU
It looks like you may need a mini-displayport to Displayport cable. You can also try holding the option key while clicking on "scaled" to see if the option you need comes up.

  • Macbook pro late 2011, completely messed up, everything I click it brings up beachball very slow, blue ray and hd unwatchable as it jerks. genius bar app didnt help at all, very disappointed, can some1 help me?

Macbook pro late 2011, completely messed up, a macbook pro of this year should not be operating like this, everything I click it brings up beachball very slow, blue ray and hd unwatchable as it jerks. genius bar app didnt help at all, very disappointed, can some1 help me?

You have a hardware problem. It is probably the hard drive is either to full, not enough free space, or it is starting to fail.
If you have an external drive connec that to the system and use the Recovery HD, Command + r keys at startup, to install a clean fresh copy of OS X Lion on the external then run the system from that. It will be slower but if you don't get the beachball then that is the sign your internal drive is on its way out or is filled up with files and not enough free space.
