These are the specs of my machine:
Hardware Overview:
Model Name:          Mac Pro
Model Identifier:          MacPro1,1
Processor Name:          Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed:          2.66 GHz
Mine does not matach exactly to this but I woud hazard a guess it would be ok as certain parts match...
Step 1:Make sure your Mac can run Lion.
Your Mac must have an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 or Xeon processor to run Lion.
Can anyone advise if I can use Lion?

s long as they already have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed in it.All a person needs to do with that type of iMac is to upgrade/max out their Ram. They claim that an Interl iMac with Core 2 Duo is all that is needed, as long as it has OS 10.6.8 installed. They say you don`t need the "Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor"
But I wonder about the RAM speed, the iMac 2.33Ghz uses DDR2 SDRAM, which I believe is rated at 667Mhz. Lion maybe installed but it might be problems running smoothly or not?
Did some quick checking and the iMacs apple is selling this year use 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM.
The only thing to do is to make sure you have a good back-up, Install your RAM and install Snow Leo, then wait a couple of hours and install Lion.

Hi Mary, the other so called "Features" of iClound will not work for like Syncing, but eMail will.
MobileMe & dot Mac will still work last I heard.

Don't delete your old account yet. Just setup a new one in Mail>Preferences>Accounts, little plus icon. Choose IMAP as account type, not ,mac or MobileMe.

I phoned the number above and purchased a license. The process worked fine, the Apple Tech took my particulars, I received an email right away acknowelging my purchase and one from the Tech giving me his details so that I could come back to him if I needed help. But when I went to download Lion it would not download because I do not have the requirements to load it, mine is an Intel Core Duo instead of an Intel 2 Duo or later.
The clerk in the Apple store in Vancouver checked the details of my machine and told me I could load it if I upgraded the memory. But apparently that was incorrect. The Tech I who sold me Lion checked too and said no, my iMac is not capable of supporting Lion. So a plus and minus answer. I did get Lion, but was unable to load it, yours is a 2008 model so you should have no trouble. Why not try the number or the international website above from Steve, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I will just keep saving my pennies toward a new iMac!!

Well, right. In 99.99% of cases you shouldn't lose any data.
But if something goes wrong, well, if you don't have a backup you're SOL.
You truly don't have ANY drive that you're using for Time Machine?
FYI: It's not a matter of IF, but WHEN, your hard drive will fail. It will eventually happen, so you should have a backup, unless you don't have any data you care about.

There are only two versions of Snow Leopard, the ordinary one and the server edition. Most people have no need of the server edition. Any Snow Leopard retail disc, no matter how old, even 10.6.0, can be updated to 10.6.8, so the version is pretty much irrelevant. You need to make sure your hardware is up to scratch for Lion though - you have to have an Intel processor, Core 2 Duo or better - NOT Core Duo.

You can't. Unfortunately, you cannot create a new MobileMe account. You might try creating a new Apple ID and using it for iCloud with your iMac. You can then return to using MobileMe as a separate account for your G4. However, MobileMe will disappear at the end of June 2012, so you will need to find an alternative before then.

I'm sorry, the question was somehow scrambled. And I'm probably not in the correct place to ask it. I have a MacPro Notebook that we got in May of 2006. I can't upgrade to Lion because of size limitation. I also have an iPad (original) and I thought that if I had the iPad we would be able to get our mail from our .Mac accounts, but I guess not. I keep getting messages from Apple to sync the computer with iCloud, but again, since I can't upgrade, I can't do that. And when I clicked on the iCloud icon on the iPad it said I had to get my computer set up for the iCloud.
