Can I upgrade to Windows 8 on my current Windows 7 partition that's using boot camp?

I have an iso image of the OS (enterprise) and I started the installation process and it asked me if I wanted to do an upgrade or an advanced custom install. Has anyone tried this yet?
One time I installed a windows update and it formatted my OS X partition as NTFS and I lost everything, so I'm trying to avoid that, but I'd really like to use Windows 8. Thanks!

I recommend you to wait until Apple launches Windows 8 drivers for Apple Boot Camp. Boot Camp isn't compatible with Windows 8 at this moment, but the required drivers will be launched soon. When Apple launches the Windows 8 drivers, just insert the Windows disc in Windows 7 and upgrade your Windows. If you're going to do a clean install, make a backup before upgrading the Windows version

Then a Mac IIci, last was wife's QuickSilver before this MacPro5,1..
It seemed so simple back then before serial- ATA, then. Started learning Windows vista (2008) on my mom's Asus laptop now Windows 7 ?
Getting more Mac like all the time... A friend who tried the Sata 3 and blew something on his pc laptop fixed it..
Thank God formatting drives is easy, only back up the data you need before doing anything with a drive..

Windows 7 on snow leopard using boot camp 2.1/2.2 drivers

i am using snow leopard on my macbook, and I do not have the snow leopard install disc as I have lost it. I am intending to install windows 7 on it with my old leopard install dvd using boot camp 2.1/2.2 drivers? Can it be done? Ok in summary:
1-I partition my bootcamp using boot camp 3.1 on snow leopard,
2-process of installing windows
3-use my old leopard install dvd to install the drivers.
4-is it possible?

Apple strongly recommends to use the BootCamp 3.0/3.1 drivers for Windows 7 and nothing else.
OSX Snow Leopard install DVDs can be bought at any Apple Store (and Amazon, etc.) for about USD 29
In summary:
1 - Works
2 - Works
3 - Might not work at all or you might have to use the 'compatibility mode' with the 2.x drivers.
4 - Try it
Before attempting you might wanna have/make a backup of your OSX, just in case.

Messed up Windows 8.1 install after using Boot Camp 4 drivers

Hey guys, I just finished successfully installing Windows 8.1 on my Mac with Lion. There were no issues there, but I royally screwed up the Windows partition after trying to install the Boot Camp support software from a USB flash drive. I didn't look into it enough and am now realizing (after the fact of course) that I needed Boot Camp 5.1 for support for Windows 8.1!
I realized that something was wrong when I tried to install the drivers and software from my Boot Camp 4.0.4 and I received a prompt on Windows telling me that it expected Windows 7 instead and then asked me to run in compatibility mode to see if that works. I stupidly clicked yes and then my Windows locked the screen on me. So of course, I unlocked it and the display is all messed up with my battery indicator at the top left, most of the screen is black and a small portion on the right side is not black. It instantly locks itself again. I can only repeat the process with no way to correct it (that I know of).
Is this install of Windows 8.1 salvageable? I am getting the new drivers from Boot Camp 5.1 now, but it won't help if I can't even get to the desktop for Windows. Help!

Right - this would be the easiest thing to do. Will I have issues the Windows license being activated again? I have actually never had to reinstall before so I have never had license issues.

Installing Windows XP on a Mac using Boot Camp

I'm considering installing Windows on my Mac and I've been reading the Boot Camp installation guide to get an idea of what I need to do when I noticed this section:
"Important: You must use a single full-install Windows installation disc. You cannot use an upgrade version of Windows. If you’re installing Windows XP, you must use Service Pack 2 or later. You cannot install an earlier version of Windows XP and then attempt to update it later."
I have a Windows XP Pro disc and another disc with Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Pro. Can I use those to install Windows or do I need one disc with both Windows XP and Service Pack 2 on it? The wording in the installation guide was confusing me since it says you cannot install an earlier version of Windows XP and then update it later. Would that be what I would be doing if I try to install the first disc and then use the second disc with SP2 on it?
I hope I explained that clearly enough. Thanks for any help you can provide.
p.s. If I later want to upgrade to Windows 7 can I just use the upgrade version or would I need to buy the full install version?

for BootCamp the XP installation CD has to have the SP2 incorporated.
You cannot use a pre-SP2 XP CD for installation and apply the SP2 later from another disc.
If you have access to a Windows CD you can make yourself a XP SP2 installation CD by following these instructions http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxpsp2slipstream.asp and using your already owned XP CD.

In essence Microsoft has provided no way to upgrade from XP to Windows 7 in-place, but provides a way to migrate an existing XP installation into Windows 7.

Install windows 7 using Boot Camp

I have a 1st 13" MBA and would like to install Windows 7 as 2nd OS using Boot Camp. Can someone share some light on to me if it is pratical way to use Windows 7. I have tried VMware Fusion to install Windows XP and found the performance is far below expectation. The hard disk is just 80 GB and have 40 GB left. How much space I should allocate for Windows partition? Can I obtain any guidance to install it properly? Thanks!

Cannot get Magic Mouse to work in Windows 7 64-bit using Boot Camp

I recently purchased a Magic Mouse and installed it on the Mac OS X partition of my MacBook Pro. After successfully installing on the Mac side, I switched to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit using Boot Camp to install on the Windows partition. When I try to "Discover" a new Bluetooth device, the Magic Mouse does not show up in the list of devices (the mouse is powered on and next to the computer).
I am using the most recent version of Boot Camp (3.0.2) and have updated Windows 7. Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, is there a fix for it?

OK, that is a Bluetooth mouse so open Windows Devices and Printers>Add a Device Toggle the power (on the mouse) off and then on. he mouse should appear in the window, follow instructions to add it.

I can't delete a partition from my Hard Drive using Boot Camp!!??!!

Hello. Earlier today I installed Windows 8 to my iMac using boot camp and creating a partition. I've decided I don't like it, and want to remove it. I cannot delete the partition!! Help!!

How are you trying to delete it? What happens when you try? There is only one way to remove a Bootcamp partition and return your drive to a single OSx partition, use Bootcamp Assistant and choose the menu option to remove Windows.

Can I upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 8.1 in an existing Boot Camp?

I have a Full Version 64-bit Windows 8.1 disc and my iMac has the current Version 10.9.1 OS X (Mavericks) installed.
I already have a Boot Camp partition of ample size (100GB) with Windows Vista.
Can I upgrade to Windows 8.1 within my current Boot Camp environment or do I have to completely remove and rebuild my Boot Camp partition and Windows software?

I've tried both independently.
The one I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 had graphics driver problems but I eventually got around them by deleting/installing the drivers in safe mode.
The Windows 8.1 that I'm currently using installed fine and I've also installed 2 Nvidia driver upgrades direct from Nvidia.
But as I said earlier, I may well have just got lucky with my hardware. Others have definitely not been as lucky as me.
It really depends on how much you want to upgrade and what the risk is to you if things don't go well.
You could lose everything in Windows. I would recommend making an image of your Windows partition (I use Clonezilla Live - which is a bit involved to use, but it works).

I have been searching the HP web site to see if my computer can be upgraded to windows 10. I also tried the the hp support assistant and it just directed me to a sales page about windows 10. I don't want to mess up this computer and reload all the software if it is not compatable. Is there a list of compatable HP computers or an app I can run to check? Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, Can't upgrade to Windows 10 - "Something happened" error

I've tried several times and I simply can't upgrade to Windows 10 on my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro. The instalation process exists with the absurd "Something happened" error. I tried to set the Locale to en/us, and tried to install the ISO through a USB stick but no luck! Earlier I had setup my yoga 2 pro as a dual boot with both Windows 8.1 and Linux. Although I've never made any change to my OEM drives, since I went dual boot the one key recovery service also doesn't work. I still have all those OEM drives intact. When I go to the BIOS setup, I have two boot sectors, one is the original windows boot, and the other is the new linux boot; but I'm not sure it is related or not.

Many things been tried (read the original post) - hybrid shutdown, intel drivers, uninstalling and installing again Lenovo Energy Managment driver (win 8.1 one), trying to use the Windows10 default driver for Energy management, shutting down with holding the shift (or alt button) can't remember now, many many things and clearly this is a Micorosft issue + Lenovo. Not enough testing down before hand, but everyone is happy at Lenovo as our money is at their bank... and have got expensive bit of kit that we shut-down holding down the button - because is just better than pressing shut-down...
This is the second time I'm let down by Lenovo - was thinking will give them another chance but as you can see moderators viewing or post but none of them has got a solution - isn't that right Amy@Lenovo or Majestic
Clearly Ms and Lenovo will blame each other now.

Can I upgrade Vista Home Basic to Vista Business using Boot Camp & Fusion

I have installed Vista Home Basic 32-bit through Boot Camp partition and am running this through Fusion 1.1. I need Fusion's capability of running Windows at the same time as my Leopard. Presently, this OS is running smoothly as are my peripherals, including my LAN networked printer. However,
I am told by VMware Fusion email tech support that they do not support Vista Home Basic. They would support a number of other Windows OSs including Vista Business which I can readily afford, or Vista Ultimate which would be much more difficult monetarily.
I am concerned that I will need Fusion's tech support in the future and thus am willing to do the upgrade to Vista Business or Ultimate if I have to. I have been informed that Home Basic is FAT32 but Business is NTFS; that FAT32 is Apple readable and writable, but NTFS is only readable. I am a newbie and don't know what that means.
It appears from what I can understand on MS Windows support forum topics that Ultimate is more compatible with Home Basic. Could someone with technical expertise please help advise which way is best to go with this, and if I have to, which upgrade to choose; and, how to go about installing without messing up what is already working.
I'd really appreciate help with this as I have over a month trying to get this right and have had to communicate with tech support of various companies, do several complete deletions of partitions and reinstalls of various OSs and other software needed to accommodate my PC needs. I use Apple OS capable Word to create documents, but often need data from a PC-only CD that was loaded on my Toshiba laptop for these documents which I share with others via email attachment sometimes from PC side and sometimes from Apple side depending on whether I still have things to add to the file and of course need to print from PC side also. That's why Fusion's side-by-side and drag and drop capabilities are perfect for me (I actually used to try to email the document to myself and go to my Toshiba to retrieve it, complete the document and email back, but MS Outlook often failed to operate.) I also receive from a friend, sound files created in PC format that I previously used Roxio to burn to CD. (Haven't gotten this running yet, apparently info I saw online about which Roxio v. would work with VHome Basic was wrong).
When I am traveling and away for 2-3 weeks, I need to have everything on one laptop so I gave up my iMac w/Tiger v10.4, which I loved, for a new Macbook Pro to get the duo core, with a 23" Cinema Display. After reading Apple discussion forum and talking to Apple Sales, decided to get Fusion to run both OS simultaneously (this part works beautifully). I need to be able to print from the PCVM (which I've finally resolved).
RE XP: In my conversations with Fusion tech supp. I was given instructions to load my XP Pro directly in VM w/o Boot Camp, telling me BC was unnecessary because Fusion could do partitioning and everything else necessary, so I scrapped everything and tried to do a new install, but their detailed instructions wouldn't allow installation. When I emailed them of the problem, they didn't reply. I really needed to get my PCVM up and running so went back to scrubbing everything and beginning again using Boot Camp and Vista Home. If there is a way to use use my XP upgrade with or without BC, I'd be happy to, but don't know how to go about it. I ordered Vista Bus. full on a special promo online for $127 but it hasn't arrived yet, so I believe I could return it if I don't need it. Will I need to scrap everything again and start over, or can I install the XP Pro upgrade with where I am now? Will the Vista capable application software be able to work with XP? How do I check whether my current partition is NTFS? What is MacFUSE, do I need it, and if so where can I get it? Is it expensive? I've really over-extended having to purchase things I believed I needed to proceed.
I also have a Seagate 500 firewire for backing up my Leopard using Time Machine. Boot Camp partitioned the 500 for Leopard and PC using FAT32, but Seagate TS tells me that I can't use both OSs and that's why I can't see the PC partition in the Fusion desk top. Fusion TS tells me that I can't use FAT32 to back up Vista. Stymied again! So, I just found a Seagate 300 Free Agent to back up the PC side if I need to I have 13 days to decide.

How to install Windows 7 on MacBook with Tiger + Leopard upgrade using Boot Camp

I've had Vista installed on a separate partition on my MacBook for a while, but wanted to upgrade to Windows 7. I've completely wiped the HDD, re-installed Tiger, upgraded to Leopard and installed Windows 7 using boot camp from within OSX. However, I now can't boot back into OSX - I believe it's because I don't have the latest version of Boot Camp within Windows 7 (it doesn't appear on the task bar), but I also don't have a full copy of Leopard, only the upgrade disk.
Is there any way to (a) boot back into OSX (I've tried holding down the option key and this doesn't work) and (b) installing a version of Boot Camp that will enable me to switch between both operating systems as I was when Vista was installed & without having to purchase the full copy of Leopard?
Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Try to boot from the 10.4 disk then and "Repair Disk". If you can, then try booting from the 10.5 disk and do the same.
Have you tried holding down the C key also when trying to boot from the Install disks? It could take 30 seconds to a minute or more for the C key/Option key reboots. The Mac DVD HAS to be the OS installer disk not the applications installer, etc,. Sorry if I keep bringing this up.
You have to keep holding it down the whole time it boots, either it will bypass it and reboot into Windows or it should get to the boot loader window with at least Windows showing up.
If you can still boot into Windows with no problems then Windows SHOULD show up in the boot loader window. (C key/Option key) It's hardware related, it's the computers manual way of looking for a bootable OS if there's no OS installed yet.
Don't forget to disconnect any USB devices until you get it fixed.
Also try to boot from the Windows installer disk and "Repair Windows" and see what happens.
Other then your DVD drive may be on it's last legs, I can't really think of any reason you can't boot from the Mac DVD's. All the other post's I searched for eventually got the DVD boot working, even 10.6 and 10.7 are having that issue, tho rarely.

Don't run the installer this time, if a window pops up to "Run" or "Open", just open it. If it doesn't open the DVD and look for the BootCamp.exe. Right click on the .exe (or whatever it's called) and select the trouble shoot compatibility mode and select Vista. Yes, I know you have W7. See if that works.
It may have buggered the Mac OS side so you may have to get DiskWarrior (worked for some) or the like in order to fix it. It would definitely be useful in the future.
