Can i use 32 bit windows 7 for boot camp?

I recently purchased a 15 inch mbp retina display and wanted to use boot camp to install windows 7 on it. I accidentally purchased 32 bit instead of 64 bit.  will this still work?

the apple drivers only comes in 64bit so it would be like running windows in safe mode in terms of drivers

  • Using Disk Utility for Boot Camp to work

I'm trying to install Windows 7, but Boot Camp gave me the old error message about having unmovable data and needed to use Disk Utility to format it as a Single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Volume. So I backed everything up and am ready to go, but when I open Disk Utility and select my hard drive/disk, all the options under "erase" are grayed out. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

You can't format what you are using.
If you cloned your drive you would be able to boot from that; if you used another method and you don't have OS X installed on another hard drive, you have to use your DVD.

  • Can a mac running windows with Boot Camp be found by Find My iPhone

I'm running Windows on my MacBook Pro via BootCamp and I'm using the Find My iPhone iCloud app on my iPad. My MacBook Pro cannot be found by Find My iPhone, it's labeled as off-line, even though it's connected to the Internet.
So my question is this: is there a way for Find My iPhone to see my Mac while running Windows. Note, I've already got iCloud for Windows installed on the Windows side of my MacBook Pro (and Find My Mac turned on on the Mac side, and while on the Mac side, it's always found, no problem.)

When you iPhone is not connected to the Internet either through 3G/Wi-fi or because it is off then you cannot track it.
If FindMyiPhone is enabled, even if the iPhone is off or not on wifi/3G, it will still show in FindMyiPhone under Devices, though it cannot be located.
If it is not showing No Devices, FindMyiPhone is not enabled.
If it does show in Devices and shows Offline, FindMyiPhone is enabled but it is off or not on wifi/3G.
This is one way to remove the activation lock if you do not have the device. Delete it from FindMyiPhone in iCloud.

  • Can I use the Window XP bundled with MS virtual PC in setting up boot camp?

    Hi hi,
before having the new 24" iMac, I have MS office professional for Mac running on my 17" G5 iMac it. The bundle pack contains Window xp professional software running on Virtual pc program.
I want to install boot camp on my new intel mac but can i use the window xp program which is bundled with MS virtual pc software for setting up boot camp?
    please advise.
    iMac 24"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Technically, so long as your bundled version is XP with service pack 2 then you should be able to use it.
Legally, no. When Windows comes with a PC, even a virtual PC, it's license is for an OEM installation. While it's still functionally the same as a copy you'd buy in the store its license is for use only with that PC it came with and no others.
    Hope this helps! bill

  • Can I use a NVIDIA card only for Boot Camp in MacPro5,1

I bought an ACER HN274H 3D monitor and then found out that 3D (primarily for gaming) won't work with the ATI Radeon HD 5870 card that I have in the PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot.  I assume the easiest fix would be to put a NVIDIA card in one of the remaining PCI Express 2.0 x4 slots.  A post from 2008 said that 2 cards should work if only one is plugged into the monitor at a time - one for MacOSX and the other for Boot Camp.  I wanted to confirm if that still is the case for Boot Camp where I'm running Windows 7.  What would be a reasonable NVIDIA card that would not exceed power of 300W combined maximum for all PCI Express slots (no other PCI cards currently); primarily for gaming with 3D option.
This would be for a Mac Pro bought in Nov 2010.  Other relevant info:
      Processor Name:          Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          3.2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          4
BTW, HN274H works ok in 2D for both OS's.
    thanks!

300W is without using two 6-pin aux power video card cables, 75W per slot.
So as long as the 5870 is present you need to look into a 450W PSU to rig together to add 6/8-pin aux power to an additional card.
My understanding though is that a PC card under OS X needs support, the fan can run constantly.... not my forte as to how and what to expect.

GTX 460 and above would fill your needs.

  • Clone Windows HD to use for Boot Camp

    Hello Apple Forum!
I have a bit of an issue. I have had a laptop where the motherboard has died on me. The harddrive is perfectly fine though. What i want to do is clone the hard drive and have that set as the partition for Boot Camp. Is this possible?
    - First, could I put the hard drive into another laptop to clone it to an external HD? Even though there will be driver issues when I boot up WIndows 7 Pro.
    - Second, once I have the copied image onto my external hard drive, could I clone that to the boot camp partition?
Or, would I need to install a fresh installation of Windows 7 Pro on the Boot Camp, then download Acronis True Image and allow Acronis to handle the disk image on my external hard drive?
    Thanks.

    Moving Windows means
You have retail copy in order to reactivate
    Dell OEM won't work
The motherboard drivers are totally different and can't be uninstalled.
    Clean install is required
I'll leave it to you as to what methods to clone that can restore onto a Mac with hyrid GPT

  • I installed windows 8 before installing Boot Camp 5(currently have  4) with 32 bit version win 8.  Anything I can do now to upgrade to Boot Camp 5?. .

I installed Windows 8-32 bit before installing Boot Camp 5 (currently have 4). Is there anything I can do now to install Boot Camp 5 then re-install Windows with the 64 bit version?
I am hoping that I do not need to delete the partition and start all over.

Boot Camp 5 drivers can only be installed in 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 versions, so first you have to install a 64-bit Windows 8 version.
Note that Microsoft doesn't support upgrades from a 32-bit Windows to a 64-bit version, so you have to do a clean install, losing your applications, but you can keep your data, stored in "Windows.old", a folder at the root level of your Windows volume. Insert your Windows 8 DVD, hold the C key while your computer is starting and install Windows in the Windows partition.
After installing Windows 8, install the Windows support software for 64-bit Windows 7 and 8 versions

  • HT1461 For Boot Camp, if you save a file when you are on the Windows side, when you return to the Mac side, can you see the file or can it only be "seen" on the operating side you create it in?

For Boot Camp, if you save a file when you are on the Windows side, when you return to the Mac side, can you see the file or can it only be "seen" on the operating side you create it in?

Why don't you  (generic most every post lacks critical details) be clear and say you never used Mac OS etc.
But, I did try to anticipate and give you what you needed.
Excel is one of those rare programs that, if they are extremely large complex spreadsheets still tend to run better under Office for Windows.
A VM won't do for that but it does make it easier to transition. As in: install Windows natively, then use VMware Fusion or Parallels to attach to the partition and OS. That way you can run Windows as Guest OS VM under Mac; and still run Windows natively dual-boot when needed.
The word "see" was not what you wanted, was it? really? you want to open and make changes and keep it on Windows side rather than Save As or copy to Mac
You use Windows and don't know it has NTFS (NT FileSystem)?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hierarchical_File_System (HFS) native file system used by Apple
And there is much more UEFI style "bios" and other things I suppose.
Great thing about Google and encyclopedias or dictionary, you can look up what you don't know.

  • Can i use Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM for bootcamp?

    Someone suggested to use
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM for bootcamp.
Can i use Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM to use in bootcamp to install windows 7 on my mac book pro 13 inch?
    thank you.
PS: i bought my macbook pro 3 weeks ago.
Also, is there any other windows 7 installation CD that is cheaper?
    thank you.

    Yes.
OEM just means that the Windows OS is dedicated to that computer only. If you sell, replace or throw away the computer you use it on, the Windows CD/DVD goes along with it. (According to the Licensing dialog)
Just do a Yahoo/Google search for prices is the only way to find it cheaper. Or keep an eye on your favorite web store for sales.
If you are in college and have an .edu e-mail account thru the college then Microsoft has it for about $30 US. And other deals also.

  • I thought apple is user friendly. That is why I bought it. I do not have a use to download my boot camp assistant for a compatible to microsoft words, excel, powerpoint. They told me I have iWork's for all of this products but mine is not working.

    To whom it may concern.
I bought an apple product which is MacBook Air about 7 mths. ago . Anyway I would like to download a compatible words, excel, powerpoint. they told me that I do not need it since IWORKS is all I needed. I tried my keynote , numbers does not worked. Somebody emailed me sending me this mumbo jumbo for it to work. Well, if I was a computer wiz, I probably will not be asking for help.
I followed the tutorials for windows for mac, followed every instructions, hold and behold another problem. I have to have a usb, when I bought this at Best Buy, I asked them what do I need , they said that I do not need anything else because it is all in there. So to make a long story short. I am just so frustrated .
How can I download the windows for mac, I know I have to start in utilities , boot camp assistant, then the usb problem. Please I need help, it is much needed for my job. Ipages does not saved anything, I mean nothing it just disappeared , and you do not have any idea how much I have the long hrs. I have put in.
Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate this .

You can buy Microsoft Office for Mac, it includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Or you can download a free copy of LibreOffice which contains substitutes (good ones) for the Microsoft Office programs.
Do not even think of using Boot Camp unless you have a complete and current TM backup or a clone to restore if it goes wrong. You will also need to buy Windows and Microsoft Office for it. And you MUST read the directions very carefully.

  • I have a mac pro wich will not open windows in boot camp i get to the two options select windows but iyt will not load can you help please

i have a mack pro which will not open in windows from boot camp get to the two options and select windows drive but it will not open can you help Please

Hi there, Well, i thing i might have had the same problem (if you dont mean the selecting part, then try keyboad with usb and without if u dont have a macbook pro or so), i did the same and after selecting windows it said "No bootable disk" or " no boot disk" or something like that and the installer wont start when i was trying to install via CD/DVD.
The sulution is to use 2 usb-drives, one for the support drivers from apple and one for the windows it self after burning the CD/DVD to the usb on a PC using the windows own tools and creating a ISO file.
(there might be problems whit CD/DVD install sometimes)
The ISO file on a own USB is the most importat thing!! (and even apple and windows didnt know that but me and a technikal support guy from the store i bought it managed to fix it after like 4 days )
    Hope it work now mate!

  • Can I reinstall Windows in Boot Camp without unpartitioning my hard drive?

    Hi!
I've had my iMac with Boot Camp for a while, and I'm the kind of person that likes to download lots of junk. On my Mac partition, I downloaded Parallels, and used it with my windows partition. Later that day, I found out that using Parallels with a Boot Camp partition can corrupt files, which is what happened. My Windows partition still works, but it's a little screwy.
So, I was wondering if I can reinstall Windows XP without unpartitioning my hard drive, and without effecting Mac OS X.
    Thanks~

Yes. It is quite straightforward - you boot into OS X, insert your Windows install disk, go to Applications (or is it Utilities?) open BootCamp - the Assistant opens. Then you ignore the partition options and just click on install Windows. BootCamp should be used for all things Windows.. ....I myself originally made the mistake of re-installing Windows one time while IN Windows (I didn't even think). I made a mess!
    Edit
My machine came with Tiger. I was sooooo impressed when I purchased Leopard that I could choose to do an erase/install of OS X without even touching the Windows side. Really nice - I still have that original Windows install untouched!

  • Can I delete the mac partition used to create the boot camp partition?

I am using Mac OS 10.9.5 on a late 2011 17" Macbook Pro.
I currently have an SSD in the primary drive slot with my primary Mac partition and an HDD in the Superdrive slot that has one unused Mac partition that I would like to delete and a Windows 8 partition that I would like to keep.
Can I delete the extra Mac partition on the HDD so I can use that as spare space? It was the Mac partition that was used to run Boot Camp and create the Windows 8 partition that is on the same drive so I am nervous that the Windows 8 partition needs to rely on that Mac partition to work for whatever reasons.
I recently went through a huge ordeal to create a Windows 8 Boot Camp partition as I wanted it on my computer. I had previously taken out the Superdrive and replaced it with a data doubler and the original hdd, and I had an aftermarket SSD in the primary drive bay. I had been using the SSD as my Mac partition and the HDD as spare storage space. For my Boot Camp config, I wanted to split the HDD into 2 partitions and make one Windows 8 and the other spare storage space while keeping the SSD dedicated to my Mac partition. Achieving that required removing the SSD, removing the data doubler, reinstalling the Superdrive, putting the original HDD back in the primary drive slot, installing and updating Mac OS on the HDD, using that Mac install to run Boot Camp and create a second partition for Windows 8, installing Windows from the Superdrive, and then putting everything back by taking out the Superdrive, putting the HDD back in the data doubler, and putting the SSD back in. Everything works now. Understandably I don't want to break anything and have to redo this process.
That said I do want to delete that extra Mac partition and use it as extra storage, if I can do so without breaking the Boot Camp Windows 8 partition.

    ilovemac wrote:
Use Disk Utility and remove the "BOOTCAMP" partition. Then make "Macintosh HD" all the way to the bottom to regain space.
Wrong advice. Do not use Disk Utility. Use Bootcamp Assistant to remove the Bootcamp partition and return the drive to a single OSx partition. Using Disk Utility will result in lost space, lost data, and possibly an unusable OSx partition. Read the Bootcamp help and user guides.

  • How can I get Windows 7 Boot Camp to find my Magic Mouse?

    Hey!
So I just bought a Magic Mouse and it works flawlessly in OS X.
But when I use Windows 7 Boot Camp I can't find the mouse to add it as a new device. My bluetooth works just fine and I have the Boot Camp 3.3 drivers.
I tried rebooting, turning the mouse off and on, read a bunch of guides on the internet but no one is having issues CONNECTING the mouse, only getting it to work, so my research is proving to be hard.
    Can you guys help me?
    Thanks!

    Hi Maia,
Can you please mention your MAC model (MBA 2011, MBP, iMac?). Which OS X version?. Have you problems pairing other bluetooth devices?
You may want to try the following setps.
1.- First make sure that you have the latest EFI and software updates. Including latest bootcamp bluetooth drivers.
2.- Unpair MM in Mac OSX
3.- Do a Nvram and SMC reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    4.- Restart
5.- Pair your MM under Mac OSX
6.- Boot on Bootcamp assiging bootcamp as a starting partition
    7.- Add your device.
Let me know if that worked, there are another tricks you can try but I need additional information.
