Can I use 60 MB/s Compact Flash cards in my EOS 40D?

Can I use 60 MB/s Compact Flash cards in my EOS 40D?  I have been using 30 MB/s cards for several years and would like to get faster speed if the $)D will accept the faster cards

It will accept them but it may not transfer any faster. That's limited to the buss used back then which was most likely the fastest it could be in it's day.

  • Images can be viewed when inserting compact flash card but many just black when imported. What's up?

When I insert the compact flash card containing 158 images (Raw+jpeg Fine) into the Mac I can view all images, however after I import them only about half of them can be viewed. The remaining images are blacked out even though the info for each image is available. The card was reformatted prior to use. What do you think the problem might be?

Upload off the flash card to a folder on your Desktop (can be done with Image Capture) and see if they can be viewed with Preview. If the can  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import the photos and test to see if the same problem persists.
Also make sure that the RAW files from your camera are supported by the operating system and iPhoto.

  • Can't download photos from Compact Flash card

I have a H530S. It has a 7in1 card reader but I have a SanDisk Ultra Compact Flash4GB card which doesn't fit in the card reader. I also have a USB Card Reader / Writer which I've plugged in but nothing happens. It is a iVAVA CRV900.
Please can someone tell me how I can download my photos from this type of card? It used to fit in my old Dell computer, so this is rather annoying that it now not so easy. I had presumed that the super-duper 7 in 1 card reader would at least have a slot that my Compact Flash card would fit in to as it is a common type card used in Canon SLR cameras.

Is anyone going to help me with this please? I've rung tech support and left a message for them to call me and no-one has called and I've emailed them as well and had no reply.

I have Photoshop Eleent 12 and use a Windows PC.  I hae been using a Canon EOS 50D for several years, which uses a Compact Flash Card.  I have always downloaded pictures by using a card reader wich I connect to my computer. I Go to the Organizer, click on "Import" and select "From camera or card reader".  Once on the Photo Downloader, I select the pictures, chose the folder and click on "Get Media" and all the photos get downloaded. Today I folled the same procedure as always, but ZI'm gettig an error message that reads"Import Failed" followed by another message that reads "Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in this Catalog."  I'm puzzled by this message and don't know what to do o get my photos.  Any suggestions?

The organizer doesn't care where you send your photos when you download them via the downloader or where they happen to be when you first bring them in if you use the Get Photos command, but once your pics are in the Organizer, you *must* move them from within organizer or it can't find them. You don't have to use My Pictures at all if you don't want to, but regardless of the folder where you put your photos, if you want them someplace else, you use organizer to do it.

  • Use compact flash cards to transfer drivers?

Once I install Win XP I figure I could setup my internet and get all the drivers I need. Out of curiosity, if I can't configure my internet properly for whatever reason, could I tranfser files on a compact flash card? I have a 512 MB CF card for my Canon S1 and this PC and the Neo2 I'm setting up has a floppy card reader. I could put all the drivers I need on the CF card and transfer them over? Apparantly XP doesn't need a driver to use the CF card reader. I also have an external USB card reader I could try instead. Just wondering if that would work.

Shouldn't be a problem if you have the card reader.

  • How can I get my new ipad 4 to read my compact flash cards? If not can I download the images directly from my camera?

how can I get my new ipad 4 to read my compact flash cards? If not, can I download the images directly from my camera?

Tom, thanks for your quick reply. I'm a commerical photographer using Canon 5D mk2's mostly and have in the past just downloaded images to a mac book for backup. I really liked the compact size of the Ipad and just got the retina model with the camera connection kit and seem to be hearing that CF readers can't be used with it b/c they draw too much power. Seems like I remember reading I could use a cord that might have come with my cameras to download directly to the Ipad. I haven't tried it yet as I can't find the connection but then you just said it can't be done?
I'm COMPLETLY lost as to your "first pluging in a flash drive to my computer, advice. Do you mean Ipad when you say computer?  "then put your movie/photo files into the folder." HOW????????
Then plug it into the Ipad??????     TOTALLY lost.
Also your saying just "do a google search for a reader doesn't work b/c NONE are able to work with the newer Ipads b/c they use TOO much power or so everyone says everyone that have tried.
Hope you can help a little more b/c I'm really getting frustrated with all the conflicting advice!

  • Problem with Plugging in Compact Flash Card

I am having a problem now when I plug my compact flash card in to download pictures.  When I plug the card in, the AutoPlay window pops up, as it always does.  However, I also get another window that pops up and says "Lightroom must quit because catalog named Lightroom Catalog.lrcat is not writeable and cannot be opened.   This could be caused by incorrect permissions or because another Lightroom application is using the catalog.  You may select a different catalog the next time you run Lightroom  by holding down the control key while Lightroom launches."
This problem started yesterday.  I had just upgraded to LR 3.5 the day before the problem started.
    Couple of other things:
    1.  Lightroom was not launched at the time I plug in the card and this problem has occurred.   In fact, I just restarted my system a shortwhile ago to test this problem, and it happened again.
    2.  My Lightroom catalog is actually called Lightroom 3 Catalog.lrcat, not Lightroom Catalog.lrcat.
    3.  I have never had my system set up to automatically launch Lightroom when my card is plugged in.
    4.  I have not actually downloaded any pictures from a card for about 2 weeks before I did yesterday, so I cannot say for certain whether or not LR 3.5 is the cause of the problem and perhaps something else is.  But the fact is that I did upgrade to LR 3.5 a few days ago.
    5.  Once I close both the AutoPlay window and the LR dialogue window, I can launch LR 3.5 with no problem and import pictures as I normally do.

Your description of what you've done and the code you show does not match what the tutorial says to do and what code to use... (there is no stopAndGoTo() function in Flash).
Right-click the second frame on the upper layer labeled Actions and select Actions. Copy and paste the code below to make our preloader functional.

  • Copying file from a Compact Flash Card or Epson Picture Viewer issues

I am a photographer and have been experiencing issues when trying to copy or move files from my compact flash cards or my viewer HD device. Both my Sandisk reader and the epson connect to my iMac through USB (rear ports) and during the copy process, I get messages that one of the files are in use, and the rest of the copy is aborted. Since the copy process doesn't work in a numerical or filename fashion, I have to look through each file that has been copied and try to identify which files were missed. The weird thing is that if I try to copy the file that was mentioned in use, it works fine
I am copying to a USB External drive, connected to my Airport Extreme. I've encountered the same things when the HD was connected directly to the iMac.
I am getting very frustrated with this process, and am looking for insight on how to make this go away, or at the very least, is there an application that will copy/move and verify the files before exiting? I can't help but think that I may have missed files here and there, and those files could be now lost memories.
    Any help would be appreciated

They'll record either while simutaniously recording to tape. I believe the HDV is in a .M2t format but I'm not sure about the DV file format. As for quality, your guess is as good as mine, I haven't had the chance to play with one yet.

  • Using Third Parth Compact Flash in a 2811 Router?

Hello all. I have a 2811 with a Cisco-installed 64MB compact flash card installed. It's not enough to install CallManager Express. We are in a pinch and need a bigger card fast. We tried using a Transcend 256MB compact flash card (not Cicso-approved or anything).
It doesn't work though. As far as we can tell it is formatted just as the 64MB card. Has all the same files on it but it won't boot.
If we boot with the 64MB card and then swap in the 256MB card, the console will display messages saying CompactFlash has been inserted. But "sh flash:" will result in device "flash:" not found.
    Please, any ideas?
We should be able to use third-party CF cards if we want to right?

There are some third party compact flash cards that will work. You will need one that is NOT high speed or ultra or anything like that. I use a traditional san disk 256Mb CF card and it works great (also used in a 2800). I always carry one in my bag that has all the IOS's for recovery purposes. Here is a link for the one I use.

  • Macintosh Color Classic Compact Flash Card

    Hi All,
So I purchased 6 Macintosh Color Classic's for $15 each with Apple IIe cards and Apple Ethernet cards. They are in excellent condition. They came with 60mb HDs. I would like to upgrade the HD with something bigger. What I would like to get is a SCSI to IDE to Compact Card convertor. I have seen some SCSI to IDE convertors. Ideally I would pop in a Compact Flash Card and partition it. What would really be cool is to remove the internal HD and replace it with a Compact Flash Reader and add a slot in the front so I can swap them out and boot.
Do any of you know of a product that will work and have actually used? I know there are some, but I want to be certain it will work with the Classic.
In the meantime; Would a SCSI 2 Seagate Cheetah drive work with a 50 pin adaptor? I have 7.1 but will go to 7.6.1 as soon as I have a bigger drive.
    Thanks,
    WillGonz

Are you sure you really want to spend a hundred to two hundred dollars on a $15 computer?

The big problem is that the hard drive caddy and adaptor that attaches to the back of the hard drive are not designed with any wiggle room for something in between so you would have to fashion something else for a plate. Then the issue might become whether or not everything will still fit in the slot or line up with the connectors....
I've adapted CF cards to work in Aspire One laptops and unless you pop for the fast $$$ cards these things are dogs so again not sure if that is such a great solution.
RE the adapted SCSI 2 drive same problem as above with the hard drive caddy and the strip that attaches the hard drive to the CC. Personally I would say you are out of luck on this as well.

  • Compact Flash Cards Won't Eject

I'm using Lexar UDMA and non-UDMA compact flash cards. I have the combination Lexar CF/SD pop-up USB card reader. It works on my MacPro. On the new unibody Macbook I bought last fall, there is a consistent problem mounting and ejecting cards of either type. When the cards mount, trying to eject them invariably brings up error messages... The first one says, "Can't eject, some app is using the card", if I do nothing often I get another message that says "Device removed improperly...". Then the card appears to eject, but then won't remount. Just a mess. Was in Africa for three weeks shooting and the only reliable way to download images was USB straight from camera to laptop.
Anyone else experiencing this sort of issue?

I'm not having the same issue, bought thought I may be able to help troubleshoot. Are the Mac Pro and MacBook running the same OS level? (i.e. 10.5.6 like your MacBook is)
Also, are you using the pop-up USB reader on both the Mac Pro and the MacBook?
Last, what are you using to move the photographs once you've got the card inserted, are you just dragging and dropping or importing with Aperture or iPhoto?

  • How to reformat a compact flash card

Hi I'm Russell, my hobby is to occasionally take photos with my Canon 7D. Well last time i took photos what happened was
when it came down to uploading them to my computer, i transferred them and i think i might of improperly ejected my dolgix
133x 32GB Compact Flash card. And now i am not able to use it in my camera. It says, No Card or Card Not Found. I was
wondering if someone knows how to reformat them. If so, Please help.. I can't use my camera until i fix the problem...Thanks
    In advance.

Some camera manufacturers insist that you format it in the camera; so, if you can format it on the Mac using Disk Utility, I'd suggest inserting it in the camera after that and see if you can format it there. I usually erase mine (also Canon camera) on the Mac, but do occasionally format them in the camera.

  • Photoshop Elements 7 - viewing photos on compact flash card

Is there a way to quickly view photos on a compact flash card in the card reader without having to import them?  I thought there was a browser in Elements that would let me view photos in folders, and then I could select the folder in my card reader.
    Thanks,
    Matthew Kraus

The Display > Folder Location view shows photos by folder, but only those that you've already imported into PSE.
The Adobe Photo Downloader will show you thumbnails of what's on a card and let you select which ones you want to download.  When the downloader opens (e.g. when you do File > Get Photos And Videos > From Camera Or Card Reader), click on Advanced Dialog at the bottom.
If you want to browse the photos at larger size, you can use Windows Explorer to navigate to the card (it should appear under Computer on Vista or My Computer on XP).  Double-click on a photo to see it at full size.
