Can I Use 802.11n Base Station and 802.11n AirPort Express in an 802.11 ac Time Capsule Main Base Station WDS Network?

I havea "wirelessly challenged" 2-story home and need to extend the range.  Currently I have an 802.11n Main Base Station with an 802.11n Airport Express Remote.  It's not getting the job done (upstairs connection is weak).
I am considering getting an 802.11ac Airport Time Capsule to help, even though I currently only have devices with 802.11n wireless connectivity (future-proof a little).
I an planning on setting up a Wireless Distribution System (WDS) Network:
1.) Setting up the Time Capsule as the Main Base Station connected to a Cable modem
2.) Reconfiguring and Setting up the current AirPort Extreme 802.11n as a Relay Base Station
3.) Reconfiguring and Setting up the current AirPort Express 802.11n as a Remote Station
I cannot "hard wire" one Base Statio to the other.
Will this work?

Will this work?
Unfortunately, no.  WDS is a older, very inefficient way to extend the wireless network signal.
As such, newer operating systems like Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks do not even offer settings for this older WDS type of network.
In addition, the new Time Capsule has no capabilities to use WDS settings at all, even if you used a Mac with another operating system to try to set things up.
Even if it were possible to set up a WDS network, the speed on the network would be incredibly slow. As you know, WDS only operates at "g" wireless speed levels. Each "relay" or "remote" that you add to the network each cuts that bandwidth or speed in half.
With a WDS "main", "relay" and "remote", the network would be operating at about 14 Mbps......a tiny fraction of what the devices would be capable of providing normally.

I want to add airport express.  I now have time capsule and I am confuse.  Do I setup the express and then time capsule to the express?

Setup the Express to wirelessly extend the Time Capsule, or vice versa depending on which one is already set up. Or you could use bridge mode which involves using an Ethernet cable or Powerline plugs.

  • Use Airport Express as Internet hub, bridge Time Capsule for N-only?

OK I checked on the forums, but I could not find anything quite specific it what I was trying to accomplish.
I recently got a 500GB Time Capsule. I changed my network around, which was based off of two Airport Express stations – on in the office hooked up to internet & printer, one in living room hooked up to sound system – and made the TC the main hub, connecting modem to it's WAN port and bridging the office AX via LAN port in bridged mode, sharing the living room AX as WDS. This way, I had the TC in N-only mode in 5ghz spectrum using wide channels for fastest performance. All this worked well.
Except that I noticed that with the TC in the office – where the laptops rarely are – my data transfer speeds were no better than .11g speeds. So I mucked around a little, and noticed that it really was just the case that the separation of distance & obstruction was slowing the transfer speeds over .11n-only that much!
Well, it occurred to me that there may be another way. What I had intended to do was to hook up the modem back to the office AX, move the TC to the living room where it'd be "line of sight" to the laptops most of the time, and bridge the TC and living room AX over LAN. So the idea was to keep the networks separate wirelessly still, and have the internet "bridged" wirelessly from the office AX to the living room AX and then over LAN to the TC. The thinking was that the hit on the internet connection would not be noticeable as the threshold for that is well below the streaming capabilities of the AX network still, so I'd not lose anything there, but gain MUCH faster speeds with the TC in line-of-sight of the Laptops (3x as much in testing; with TC in office and laptops in living room, 1.3gb folder took 9 minutes, same folder line-of-sight testing took only 3 minutes).
However, I CANNOT get this to work properly. I thought I really just needed to move the TC to the living room and bridge it there, as the services should be shared over the LAN port since the 2.4ghz AX are in "bridged" mode, but that didn't work. I kinda-sorta got it to work by forcing both the AX network AND the TC network into "bridged mode," but that didn't seem right or wise, so I tried some other settings, putting the TC to bridged and having the office AX distribute IP addresses, but then it wouldn't show up under restart, and I'm just confused now on how to set that up!
What i need is: To have the "Office AX" hooked up to the modem & printer, on 2.4ghz since it's the older .11g model, with the "Living Room AX" on that same network. Then the TC in 5ghz N-only bridged to the Living Room AX via LAN, so it can share the services (internet & airtunes) and still get high data transfer speeds to the laptops via the advantage of Line-of-sight, non-obstructed networking.
How do I need to set this up? It's possible, right?

OK while I was working out this morning, I was trying to think of WHY my setup wasn't working. I had an epiphany, and decided to try once more. This time, it worked.
The problem was that originally I had the Living Room AX set up as a Remote, so it was hooking INTO the network, not extending it. I know that with that setup you can't hook up to THAT station and get internet or anything, you hook into the MAIN station and you can SEE the remote's services that are "plugged in" to it.
I didn't think this would be an issue with the TC physically attached to the ethernet port, but apparently this behavior extends to the ethernet port on remote stations for internet access... I had a feeling that MIGHT be it, so I started from scratch, and this time set up the Living Room AX to extend the network instead of just joining it. Then hooking up the TC to the Living Room AX's ethernet port and selecting "Bridge Mode" on the TC got me the good ol' green light!
So, if anyone out there is trying to build a dual-band network, with their TC on .11n-only and bridge to services supplied by a 2.4ghz network, AND route their internet access through the 2.4ghz network instead of the TC so that they can keep their TC more centrally located for better performance... make sure you do it like this: Set up the alternate (2.4ghz) network as relays, "extending" the network, so that when you plug into it, the TC essentially thinks it's plugged directly into the main router, no matter where it is. The throughput hit for internet access over WDS shouldn't be a problem for US-based peeps, as our speeds are typically well below the .11g threshold anyway.
I also found that it helped to NOT hide the SSID of the 2.4ghz network; doing that kept rendering failed attempts to force the secondary AX to join as WDS. Once I redid it without hiding the SSID, all went well.

You may be having problems with your battery. However, they were not caused by using your iPad charger. The iPad charger is compatible with the iPhone and can safely be used with it. If your phone is less than a year old, you may want to take it to your nearest Apple Store and have them take a look at it. If the battery is not functioning correctly, they will replace it for you.

  • How to set Time capsule as base station and airport express to join

I have a wireless network using an Airport express. Now I would like to have time capsule to be set up as the base station and just the airport express to join this network, in order to listen wirelessly to music, but keep the speed of the time capsule.
Right now, the ethernet cable is connected to the Airport express. Do I have to switch that to the Time capsule? I tried to do that, but it wasn't able to connect to the internet in this case.... I am lost. Now I have a speedy time capsule, but have the network running on the slow Airport express... Please help!!! And I believe as you guessed already, I am not a smarty, when it comes to networks.
    HELP! Please!!

I actually have mine set up this way that you are looking to do. Works well for me. here si what you can try:
Make sure you unplug the Express all together first. It does interfere when trying to set this up. Next setup your TC just like the instruction says (remember no Express). You should just be able to set up your TC, connect to the internet and get going like any other router or like the Airport Extreme. if you set up your TC with your comp and CANNOT access the internet that is your first problem. My suggestion: do a hard reset of the TC if you have already attached it to the Express while also doing a hard reset of the Express - this is to bring them both back to afctory defaults to start fresh. This definitaely helped me.
So once you have your TC up and running and you have internet access thru your TC, you are halfway there. Make sure your TC shows in the left column of the Airport Utility (and dont forget to install the Airport Utility from the disc that comes with teh TC before you do any of this, forgot that). if it shows up in the left column you should also be able to see the Express in that column, both with green lights, if you have set this up correctly. Then plug in the Express. As the above mentioned remember t make sure it is connected to the correct port on that back of the TC. It will remain amber then blink a few times. This is normal. It should be blinking amber when you attempt the setup of the Express. Your airport utility shoul dnow see the addt base station (Express) in the left column. When you click on it and click CONTINUE it will ask you if you want to switch networks. You can do that and lick switch provided you are already connected to the TC and alrady have an internet connection. Once you click switch the TC will disappear from the left column and you will be left only with the Express. This is OK. I am not in fron to fm y comp right now so I am doing this from memory but in setting up the Express you want to add it to your existing network. You will have to choose which network to add it to in a drop down box in one of those steps - just make sure you add it to the one that you named your TC. Then click to the finish and click UPDATE. Let it finish the update - you shoul dsee green light son both the TC and Extreme HARDWARE - not necessarily in the airport utility. Also it is a good idea to to to the menu bar on top where the WiFi icon is and manually select your network in case you get bumped off while the TC is updating itself after you ckicl update - this happened ot me and it wouldnt complete the update and took me forever to figure out it needs internet connection to complete the update screen.
next make sure you RESTART your comp. This I guess will make all changes basically go into effect as you cycle it up. When you are up and running you should see your WiFi connect as your TC and NOT your Express. Also go back into airport utility and see if you ahve both items listed in left column - they too should have a greenlight. If they do you should be set.
I did this because I wanted to steam my iTunes files that I have on my TC to stream to iTunes via my network. The Express part, as you know, is what allows the streaming. So make sure you plug your stereo cable into the Express audio port. Then go to iTunes and on the bottom you will notice a new little drop down box - make sure to select Express so it can wireless stream (in iTunes prefs there is a pref you must turn on also to allow iTunes to see remote speakers.
Ive simplified this a little since I am not at home but this is the gist. In a prefect worl you should be able to easily have this work. I did so I know it does at least work if not anything else. You just have to make sure you get the steps correct and have everyhing plugge din where they should be...
    G'luck

My home network has an Airport Extreme w/Time Capsule as the base and then an Airport Express and a second Airport Extreme to reach different areas of the house.  Is there a way to use the second Airport Extreme for file storage on this network?  Network is administered through an iMac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.  Ideally, would like for the second Airport Extreme hard drive to appear on the list of devices in the Finder window.

    Ok.. gottcha
The problem is network wise.. Yosemite is about equal to tin cans and string.. pathetic.
Here is my usual set of instructions to get anything working on Yosemite.
The best way to fix problems is a full factory reset of all the AE in the network.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg AEgen5 and AEwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use AE24ghz and AE5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is not a problem for AE which is router.. it is a problem for AE which is bridged.. you will need to set static IP in the main router by dhcp reservations or use static IP in the AE which is tricky.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric..
    5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
    6. Now mount the disk of the second AE in finder... manually.
Use Go, Connect to Server and type in the AE ip address.
    SMB://10.0.1.2
Where you will replace that address with the actual address. The network resource should be discovered and then it will request the password.. type that in and make sure you tick to save it in your keychain.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
Do as much as you want of the above... not all of it is necessary.. only if you want it reliable.. or as reliable as Yosemite in its current incarnation can manage.
The most important thing is point 6.. mount the disk using direct IP address and not names.. dns in Yosemite is fatally flawed.
    See http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/01/why-dns-in-os-x-10-10-is-broken-and-what-yo u-can-do-to-fix-it/

    Hi,
    Welcome to the LCCS world.
Please refer to the SDK's sampleApps folder. There would be an app called FlashUserList. The app demonstrates how LCCS can be used with Flash CS4. Its a  pretty basic app, but should help you moving.
We are trying to improve our efforts to help developers in understanding our samples. Please do let us know if we can add something that would help others.
    Thanks

If you absolutely must have the Microsoft applications, you can purchase and download them from http://microsoft.com/mac.
Free software suites LibreOffice and OpenOffice offer similar functionality (word processing and spreadsheets).
Or you could do worse than look at Apple's Pages, Numbers and Keynote, which should already be installed in your Mac and can export to Microsoft formats if need be.

Can I use an iPad, iPad Mini and iPod touch on the same account?  Is there a limit to how many devices I can use?

When you turn on your iDevice for the first time just sign in with the same Apple ID and you can download any apps you have purchased in the past! There shouldn't be a limit to how many devices you can use.

If different people will be using these phones, you might be better off using the same Apple ID for the iTunes content...apps, music, etc. on each of these devices, but create different ID's for iCloud on each device. You can use one ID for the iTunes/App store, & a different ID for iCloud. That way, messages, notes, contacts, calendars, etc will be kept separate on each device.

can i use home sharing if me and my wife have different apple ID accounts?

    Yes.
You need to sign into home sharing using ONE Apple ID. So either pick yours or hers, use the same one for home sharing on the computers. Once they are signed in on both Macs you can access media that the other user purchased.
Click the 'Shared House' for her library (if you have the sidebar enabled) when you are in your iTunes to access her media & vice versa, both iTunes needs to be running & awake.
