Can I use a 2011 Macbook Pro charger for my 2007 Macbook?

My charger for my 2007 Macbook works as an AC adapter, but will not charge my battery. My girlfriend has a new Macbook pro and I want to know if I can use her charger to charge my battery. I know they output different wattages, but I'm not sure how that will affect it. I have heard rumors that new Pro chargers will fry the batteries of the older Macbooks but I don't know if there is any truth to that. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

You can use a higher wattage charger to charge a mac that normally uses a lower wattage charge and that is fine.  You do not want to do the opposite.

Yes you can. The Macbook will draw what it needs. 85 watts is the maximum rating of the power adapter. Strictly speaking this means up to 85 watts.

    can i use a 60 watts mac charger for an i.book G4

I use a 65 watt for both a G4 iBook and a G4 Powerbook. The 60 watt would just be a little slower. I assume it is not an Apple charger as a 60 watt  is not listed in the linked article.

  • Can I use my 10W iPad 2 charger for the new iPad air?

I need several chargers - work, home, travel. Therefore, can I use the 10W chargers from previous iPad models for the new iPad Air? I don't want to purchase 2/3 additional chargers when I purchase my new iPad. Also, can I use the 12W iPad air charger for my iPhone? I don't want to fry it so want to confirm beforehand.

The new model will have the 12W charger, so you should be able to use it with the new model - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4327 :
iPad models come with one of two different adapters. iPad (third generation) and earlier comes with a 10W adapter while iPad (4th generation) comes with a 12W adapter. iPad mini comes with a 5W adapter.
While these USB Power Adapters are designed for use with iPad or iPad mini, you can use them to charge all iPhone, iPad, iPad mini, and iPod models by connecting them with either the Lightning to USB cable or the 30-pin to USB cable.

i would like to download an older version of the pages for late 2007 macbook running osx lion

If you previously bought Pages from the Mac App Store, click here and follow the instructions, or go to the Mac App Store main page, click on Support under Quick Links, contact Apple, and see what they say.
If not, buy an iWork 09 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay.

Hi. Sure, you can use your iPhone when charging (but not always) . Just release your battery under 10% and recharge to 100% once a month, it can be helpful for battery life.
That is actually not considered best practice. Lithium ion batteries should be kept topped up when possible. That was previously recommended to calibrate the battery sensor. It never had any effect on the overall life of the battery.

I personally would not purchase either charger.  I have seen many posts on this forum complaining about 'inexpensive' chargers and batteries for Apple MBPs.  To purchase these 'knockoff' counterfeits is tantamount to throwing your money away.  They may be 'refurbished' by a third party (something Apple does not do with chargers) but that would indicate that they failed before.  Or they may be cheap imitations built to questionable standards.
You have spent a lot of money on your MBP, do not let it suffer a malfunction just to save $50.  You may find that repairs might cost a lot more than that.  Buy a real one from Apple as Ralph suggests.
    Ciao.

  • New macbook pro battery for late 2008 macbook pro dies fast.

I have a late 2008 macbook pro 2.4 HGz Intet Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of ram. I've had it since 2009 and just got a new battery, as the old one finally gave up. That being said, the new battery dies quite fast and I'm not sure why. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thank you

Only problem is that maybe the battery you were sold was manufactured around the same time as the Mac. And LiPo batteries die because of old age as well as use. Take it out and carefully examine all markings, especially anything that can date when it was made, like copyrights or such.
With that evidence you can go back and demand a refund.

  • Using another macbook pro charger might damage my macbook pro battery??

I am out of town, and forgot my charger so i want to use my friend's but i heard that it might damage my battery or his somehow.. It sounds kind of illogical but i heard it's true..  Thanks for your help

Not without some qualifications. The issue is when using a less-than 85 watt charger on a MBP that requires an 85 watt charger. The MBP can require as much as 85 watts under heavy CPU and/or GPU usage. Trying to pull 85 watts from a 60 or 65 watt charger used by most MacBooks or the 45 watt charger used by the MacBook Air can lead to potential problems of possible overheating or over-current issues in the charger itself.
Nope, Ohms law has yet to be repealed, the current drawn by the load will increase until the supply maximum is reached, then it will stay at that level until full charge is achieved. The supply will deliver up to its maximum specified wattage and can do that without strain.

  • Can I use 85w Macbook pro charger with Macbook?

    Hi,
I have a Macbook with a 60w charger (standard) but I also have a 85w charger going spare from a Macbook Pro, can i use the 85w Macbook Pro charger on my 13" Macbook as a spare or will it damage it?

Works fine - no damage. The 85 watt rating is the MAX load it can handle, the Macbook uses less, and will just take what it needs.
