Can I use a 521 in China?

I want to purchase a  Lumia 521 here in the USA. I know the maps and  etcetera  may not work there, but does it have the capability to send and receive calls and use  WIfi?  TIA

On WiFi, yes.  On a Chinese network, no if it is not carrier unlocked.  On AT and T roaming will be very expensive.  Talk to AT and T about an international plan you can use or temporary unlock for international use.

can i use my iPhone in china or do i need to have it unlocked

Yes, you can use your iPhone in China and No, it does not need to be unlocked.  Your carrier provides the international roaming feature, so you just enable this before you travel to China, so you don't need to get your phone unlocked for this.
If however, you want to use local Chinese sim cards in your phone, then yes, your phone does need to be unlocked for this.

  • Can I use verizon iphone5 in china ?

We are about to purchase an Iphone 5 and will be spending 4 months in Shanghai, can we use the Iphone 5 in China ? If 'yes' , what do we need to do to enable use in Shanghai.

You might be able to use it there but keep in mind one thing. Verizon is CDMA so it will roam only with CDMA carriers in china. so make sure there are CDMA networks before taking it there.

Can I use iphone5 in China? locked one with AT&T

The ideal model you want to get is A1429 which supports LTE in China, otherwise you'll be running 3G/Edge in China, check with AT&T if they'll unlock it for you to use in China.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    The 822 is a phone not intended for the Chinese market. It is a Verizon Wireless device and built specifically for use in their network. It supports the following radio bands/frequencies;
    LTE network bands: 13
WCDMA network: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1900 MHz, 2100 MHz
    CDMA network bands: BC0, BC1
GSM network: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz
As Chinese Lumia phones have firmware specific to the chinese market and there are certain limitations and restrictions to using these phones in China it is not unlikely the APN settings for your carrier are not available through the access point settings. You will need to enter them manually there, settings can usually be found on the carrier (support) website. in Settings>Access point tap the plus sign on the bottom of the screen to access the manual settings. Obviously for this to work the phone needs to be unlocked from the Verizon network.

  • Can I use iPhone 4s in China without roaming charges?

We are leaving for China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore in 2 weeks. I want to purchase an iPhone 4S, but want to use it without roaming charges. Can this be done and how?

You can buy and unlocked phone (http://store.apple.com/us/search?find=iphone+4s+unlocked) and then purchase service from the local country you're visiting and insert their SIM.  It would probably be cheaper to purchase a short-term international plan from a local carrier though.  Call the major carriers and ask; here's a list:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937.  (Be careful about purchasing a phone outside of the country you're in; the warranty is country-specific.  If you buy one in Singapore you won't get warranty service in the U.S.)

  • Can I use iphone 4 in China?

    Here is my problem
I want to buy an iphone 4 but I dont know whether I can use in China or not. And about the locked and unlocked, what is that? How can I distinguish between them? Appreciate if someone could help me!

My 4 arrives was delivered to the UK today and will be here in Shanghai on wednesday next week. I bought a SIM free from one from the UK iStore. Cost was 500 GBP. I intend to use it on my ChinaMobile 'pay as you go' account with a chopped to size standard SIM card.
Turned on my cellular data function today using my old and tattered 2G iPhone in anticipation of the 4.
    20 RMB a month for 150MB.
I will post next week and let you know if it works. If not I think, it'll make a nice bedside alarm clock...

  • I bought an iphone 5 from apple store in USA, can i use it overseas?

i bought an iphone 5 from apple store in USA, can i use it overseas, eg, China,?

Yes, but you will be using it in China with the international roaming feature.
There are no unlocked iPhone 5's being sold in the US at present so you can't use it with a local nano sim card. There will also be LTE frequency compatibility issues too.

  • How can I use an international credit card when I bought my iPad in china and currently a residence of china?

I want to purchase apps and because I reside in CHina the options for payment are Chinese banks and yet I hold an international credit card. I want to pay for my apps and unfortunately because I am not a Chinese citizen, I don't hold a local credit card but debit cards, does it mean I can't use my international British bank credit card to buy apps in China, as I also bought my IPad in China. The prompts for payment don't give me an option of international banks, but local Chinese. Please help me as I would love to have freedom to use my IPad and be able to purchase apps I want.

It's good to read Antoniad's post.  It reassures me that I can use my new iPad as an international communication device which is the reason I purchased the thing.  However, I called Verizon today (my provider of cellular data) who told me that I can't just pop in a SIM card as you suggested.  He also said that he was from the "Pre-Pay" division of Verizon and he was certain that I couldn't do what I planned to do.  I was extremely disappointed as I had called Apple prior to buying the iPad and I read the algorhythm on the website for choosing an iPad before purchasing.  Those sources were quite specific and the information seemed clear.  I would be able to use my iPad to communicate through cellular connections while traveling on the road, literally, abroad.  I was told that I could pop in a data card wherever I was, just as you indicated in your message above, and voila I was good to go.  The Verizon rep definitively rained on that parade, but said that I might be able to do this if I have a "Post-Pay" account, a different area of Verizon.  I haven't had the chance to talk to this division yet, so I looked to Apple's Support for answers.  Maybe I will find out that I can use my iPad as an international communication device while traveling on the road afterall, however, it appears I may need a different type of account (Post-Pay), something I was never warned about. Can I switch to this kind of account?  I don't know.  I have to find out.  If you have any information about this issue, it would be good to share since I strongly suspect there are others who bought the iPad for the same purpose that I have.

The Magsafe autoswitches based on detected power.  You will likely need a wall adapter to alter ther US-based 3-prong to whatever is used in China.

P.S: For the iphone 4S. is there any difference for the one from online shop or the actual store?

iPhones purchased from the online Apple Store in Australia will be unlocked. To the best of my knowledge, unlocked iPhone are not available from the physical Apple Stores at this time, though you can call the Apple Store in Melbourne and inquire.
Note that the warranty on iPhones is not international, so if you purchase an iPhone in Australia and it needs service, you would have to ship the iPhone to someone in Australia to take or send to Apple for service and then ship it back to you.
    Regards.
