Can I use a deactivated iPhone 4 with wifi to facetime

I want to give a old iPhone 4 to my daughter for games music etc. the phone has no number and will not be used to place calls. Is there a way to still use FaceTime with only wifi? I haven't had any luck trying to set it up. The msg keeps telling me to check network connection.

I have an old iPhone 3GS sitting around collecting dust.  This morning I saw the phone can be re purposed to use for games, camera, etc.  According to a forum thread I found, I have to do the following:
1) Insert the SIM card from the new or current phone into the old iPhone
2) Connect the old phone to iTunes on a computer connected to the internet
--->Once iTunes activates the device you're free to use the iPhone as if it were an iPod touch.
I've never used an iPod touch.  I want to be able to download a free app (or two) and connect it to my current phone via wifi. Here are my questions:
How do I download an app to the old phone without syncing my library to it?
After the app(s) are installed, do I simply unplug the phone, remove the SIM card and re-insert into my current phone and all is good?
*Notes.  I did not upgrade my iPhone 4G software during the last update earlier this year.  I have kept up to date with iTunes.  My old iPhone is running on software from 4 or 5 years ago.

Look iTunes>Preferences>Devices...is a backup listed for your iPhone 5 dated BEFORE you restored your iPhone 4 backup to your iPhone 5? If not, your data is gone. If there is a backup, on your iPhone 5: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You should now be able to restore that backup, if it exists, to your iPhone 5.

Can i use my unlocked iphone overseas, with a one of their carriers?
If i go study abroad for 3 years, i obviously have to have a phone. Can i use my iphone 5s I bought in america unlocked, and just put their sim-card in
Anyone know you can buy the iphone 6 unlocked?

Apple is not yet selling the unlocked version of 6 or 6 Plus (I verified this today at the Apple store, in person).  Many say that some versions now sold are unlocked, but you pay your money and take your chances.  I prefer to wait.
Oh, and if you are abroad for 3 years, you will have no warranty and no Apple service unless the phone is returned to the US.  Sounds like a good reason (to me) to buy it overseas.  YMMV
This does, of course, depend on what country one is inhabiting.

  • Can I use my sprint iPhone 4S with another carrier if it's unlocked

Can I use my sprint iPhone 4S with another carrier if it's unlocked. Sprint will only unlock it if it's international. they will not unlock it if I want to use the iphone4s with another USA carrier.  Why? I have paid for the phone and don't have a contract.  I wanted to switch the SIM card and use tmobile or another provider because I am very dissatisfied with sprint service. Lots of drop calls and texting takes 15 to reach the other person.  It is horrible,,,, I hate sprint!,

Sorry, what others here have said is wrong, wrong, wrong. There is nothing about the hardware of the iPhone 4S that would prevent a Sprint 4S from being used on T-Mobile, or any GSM carrier, international or domestic. Nothing. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Each and every 4S is 100% hardware capable of doing both GSM and CDMA out of the box. The only impediment is that Sprint would have to authorize an unlock for you. This is something they simply refuse to do. If anyone at Sprint has told you that they can't unlock a 4S for domestic use with another carrier, they have lied to your face. This, by the way, is something they're doing with everyone who asks the question - just Google search "Sprint unlock iPhone 4S", and you'll see dozens of internet threads where people talk about being lied to by Sprint about this issue. The good news is that Sprint signed an agreement with the FCC regarding letting off-contract customers unlock their phones. The agreement takes effect in mid-March, and Sprint is dragging its feet until then. Once that deadline passes, if Sprint still hasn't agreed to unlock your phone, then they're in violation of the agreement, and you can and should report them to the FCC. I sure plan to. Then I'm going to switch carriers, to one that doesn't lie to me and keep fraudulent liens on my property.

  • Can i use my iPad, iPhone, Mac with 2 independant iCloud accounts (private, business) simultanuously ? How ?

can i use my iPad, iPhone, Mac with 2  iCloud accounts (private, business) simultanuously ? How ?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Yes you can do that, however you can only have one primary account. You will need to set one account up as a secondary account and choose which account you wish to do this with, since you can only use mail, contacts, calendars, notes and reminders with a secondary account.
On your Mac, you would enter the account at system preferences> mail, contacts & calendars, on your mobile device you would enter your account at settings> mail, contacts, calendars.

  • Can I use a Verizon iPhone 5S with a Japanese au SIM?

I was wondering if anyone knows if I can use a Verizon iPhone 5S on Japan's au with an au SIM card???
(Verizon iPhone 5S comes factory unlocked and freely accepts GSM nano SIMs from other US carriers. This question is specifically for people with firsthand knowledge of American phones working on Japanese networks with Japanese SIM cards.)
I'll be living in Japan for just 7 more months, so it doesn't make sense to buy an impossible-to-unlock Japanese iPhone now. I'll be back on Verizon when I move back to the States, so if I can use an American Verizon phone on au, I would love to buy one right now while I'm home in Hawaii for the holidays.

You can't. Doing so is not supported.

  • Can you use a deactivated iphone 4 for texting/facetiming while connected to wifi?

I gave my bf my old iphone 4 to use just to text and facetime me because his ipod screen is cracked and really hard to use. But when he tries to text or facetime me while using my old (deactivated) iphone, it doesn't send.

    Hi there Shawncey808,
As long as the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, you should be able to use use FaceTime and iMessage normally. The articles below have troubleshooting steps for both FaceTime and iMessages, but I would start by verifying the Wi-Fi connection with the first article.

  • Can I use my US iPhone free on wifi in Europe?

I will be traveling to Europe with my US/AT&T iPhone 5. Can I use it there for text & email  via wii with no charge?

I am going to turn off the data and the cellular when I leave. Will that be enough and can I till use wifi without them?  I intended to use e-mail & text messaging (recipients also gave iPhones.)
Have read horror stories of people getting large bills & do not want to be one of them. I will be cruising for a few weeks & really only want access via wii in hotel for e-mail & messages.  I will also  have an iPod & iPad with me.
Please advise if any of these could run up extra charges, however I do not even have plans with my iPod or iPad.

  • Privacy when using Skype on iPhone 4 with WiFi onl...

I use Skype on an iPhone 4 via wifi on my home network which runs through a Mac, etc. I do not have SIM card in my phone because I don't use cell service on the phone. In this scenario, can my Skype calls be tapped. I'm concerned about an individual and thought I should ask at the source. Internet search results are mixed. Thanks.

Thanks.  Everything is good, re: your suggestions.  What I was wondering was whether or not someone could "listen" to calls.  But from what I've read elsewhere, my understanding is Skype calls are encrypted.  So that, plus your suggestions, would mean no, Skype calls cannot be tapped.  Correct?
yes, and in addition, users can only initiate/receive/entertain calls/video calls in one computer/device at a time.

Not that I know of.  You have to have a blackberry data plan in order to use the built in email.  After that, you can use WiFi only.

  • Can I use my ATT iPhone 4S with a French carrier?

I am moving to France for a year and would really like to be able to use my iPhone 4S while I am there. Currently, my understanding is that I can simply take my iPhone to Orange when I get to France and have an Orange simcard put in my iPhone and then I can activate it using their network. Is this true? If it is not true, what do I need to do to use my iPhone with a French cell phone carrier?
    Thanks!!!!

  • I bought a unlocked canadian iphone 4s, i am going to me living in the usa can i use my unlocked iphone 4s with sprint?

i am wondering if i can use my unlocked canadian iphone 4s in the states with sprint? can the cdma be unlocked so that any company that uses cdma can support it? or is the gsm the only one that can be unlocked and used with differnt carriers that support gsm?

The ONLY way this could happen would be if the OP returned the phone within the first 30 days of purchase in the original country of purchase, then bought a new one in the US on the Sprint network.

  • Can I use a replacement iPhone 5 with any network?

Hi everyone! I bought an iPhone 5 in Dominican Republic attached to Orange network. In a recent visit to Miami my camera didn't focus and I got a replacement iPhone 5 at Lincoln Road Apple Store. Next month I will be in USA again, so I want to know if I can buy a local nano sim card to use my iPhone while I'm there.
PD. When I received the replacement, the genius bar guy told me that the replacement iPhone 5 was originally from AT&T but it would work nice with my local carrier.
Thank you for your business and any answer will be really appreciated.

Thanks again for your reply. I already contacted Orange and they told me they are able to oficially unlock my iPhone but not when I'm under contract. And I have one year and a half still remaining in my actual contract. So at least I tried :p Thanks again.

  • Can I use unlock US iphone 4s with a pay as you UK sim card

    Hi,
I'm looking to buy the iphone 4s here in the US but I travel to the UK alot, so would I be able to use a pay as you go UK sim card with the US iphone 4s? as this would be the cheapest option instead of paying for roaming fees. I know that Apple states that it is a world phone but just wanted to make this absolute before running of to the store next month.

You'll need to purchase an unlocked / SIM-free iPhone 4S in the US when the become available in November.
Buy one now, and it will be locked to the network, with no way of unlocking it.
