Can I use a firewire hub?

I only have one firewire port on my PB. I need to connect an external hard drive and my camcorder so that I can capture from my camera to the hd using fcp.
Can I use a fw hub to allow me to do this? I'm worried about whether or not it will allow data to be transferred both ways ie, into fcp from the camera and out again into the hd... ... ...

Yes, a separate power supply is strongly recommended. According Apple the firewire ports can deliver - depending upon computer type - between 7 watts and 15 watts at 9-12 VDC. This is not much, if you run a digital camcorder and an external harddisk at the same time, for example.

That's not possible, it was designed to handle one device at a time.

How can I use a firewire hard drive on a new MacBook with only one USB-C?

kaz-k is correct about FireWire not being supported by any possible connector or adaptor to USB-C and never will.  However, there is no such thing as a FireWire Hard Drive.  There are only SATA (or if it is a really old one, ATA,) drives in a FireWire enclosure.  If you can remove the drive from the case/enclosure - bust it open somehow if it is a glued-up unit - then the drive can be placed into a regular USB3 enclosure. Then it can connect to the new MacBook via any one of the adaptors Apple sells.

Is there an option on the signal box setup, to specify a static IP address?
If there is, then try the following settings.
    IP address 192.168.1.50
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway 192.168.1.254
    DNS Server 192.168.1.254
You can then setup port forwarding to that static IP address.

  • Can I use my firewire 800 wd hd in my windows boot camp?

I have a my passport studio 1tb hd with usb and firewire 800, i just installed windows 7 via bootcamp on my computer. I partitioned a portion of it to exFat which I plan on converting to NTFS or something. Can I use it with the firewire cable any way? I don't have the usb with me at the moment.

I removed the exfat partition because windows didn't recognize it. I left about 200 gb of free space though. I looked in computer management, under disk management and windows shows my ext hd as being unallocated, even though it is hfs+ and contains about a gigabyte of info. My question is: if I try to make a partition using windows, will it erase the information on my hfs+ portion?

  • Can I use the Firewire cord?

I'm considering buying a new iPod, and I was just wondering if I can connect it to my computer using the firewire cord that came with my old iPod. More importantly, though, am I going to be able to use the firewire power adapter, or am I going to have to buy a new one of those too (because from what I understand they don't come with the new ipods!)??
    Thanks.
    ~Mary

You can use the Firewire cord and AC adapter only for charging purposes. All syncing must be done through USB connections.
If your computer does not provide Firewire power (via a 6-pin connection, rather than a 4-pin connection), then you cannot power the iPod from the computer.
The new iPods come with a USB connector that you need to use for Syncing (and can also provide power).

  • Can I use my firewire AC plug to charge new Nano?

I am sure that I can't sync music with the firewire cable. I have 2 firewire AC plugs that I would like to use to charge my new Nano so I don't have to leave a computer awake just to charge. Safe to do?
    Thanks

Yes, you can use your FireWire AC plug to charge the Nano. I have personally tried. Provided the other end of the cable is Ipod Native, which I assume it is.

Yes, Their are some on the market, but I don't know how well they work.

  • Can I use my Firewire wall charger?

I know that the new ipod does not support firewire charging/transfer into the computer, but is it possible for me to use my Firewire Cable and plug it into, from the dock, my Firewire wall charger?

This is in regards to the charger, not a computer connection. Unfortunately, a firewire connection will not update an Ipod. I wish apple would've included this feature in the new Ipod because the only fast connection I have on my windoze box is firewire.

  • Can I use a USB hub to connect to multiple USB ports from one GPIB-USB-HS?

I have one instrument which has a GPIB-USB-HS connected and the USB cable is connected to a USB hub. Can I have multiple PCs to connect using USB hub at their respective USB ports? If so, how many PCs can I connect using the USB cable?
I have downloaded the latest NI-VISA from the website.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You would first need a hub that allows you to switch between multiple pc's and then only one pc at a time would be connected and in control.
When you buy this special type of hub, one of the specs is how many pc connections it has.

  • Can I use old Home Hub (White one) on Infinity ? M...

I upgraded to Infinity a few months ago.
The black v2.0 hub has developed a hardware fault......power light on, but can't connect to the DSL Modem.
I have tried all the resets (power......hard reset button, etc), and reported the fault.
A replacement is on order, but will take a few days to arrive.
I still have the old white Hub and was wondering if I could use that while I wait for the replacement v2.0 to arrive.
As users of BT Vision, it is a right pain having to wait for the new unit.
    Any (relevent) advice appreciated..........

white hub will not work with infinity

  • Can I use onboard USB3 hub (JUSB2 socket) as USB2 on P67A-C45..?

    Hi,
I have a CM-Scout case with 4 USB2 ports on the top/front.  I can plug one pair of these ports into the JUSB1 socket on the C45 mobo, but unfortunately, JUSB2 is USB3 and has more pins.  Therefore, I am left with two unconnected ports on the front of my case...
In the mobo manual it does mention something about a USB3-to-USB2 converter thingy, but only for the other motherboards the manual covers, not the C45.
Does anyone have any insight as to whether I can use my remaining two external USB2 ports in the JUSB2 socket on the C45 mobo........???
    ponx

I have a coolermaster cm 690 case with the 2 usb connectors on top with a c43 mb and i connected the usb adaptor to the usb3 pin out which then connected with the coolmaster usb2 connectors, didn't you get the adapter plug that goes into the usb3 socket?

  • Can I use my old firewire charger with my iPod Touch

I've recently got an 8GB iPod Touch which obviously only came with a USB cable to charge and sync with my laptop.
However, I've also got an old 4th generation 20GB iPod which came with a firewire lead that connects to a firewire mains charger. Can I use this to charge my iPod touch from the mains? Also can I use either the firewire or the old USB cable to connect to my laptop??
    Thanks very much.

You can use the firewire charger to connect your Touch to the mains. I use my old one and it works just fine. I suppose you can also use it to charge using your computer though I can't say I've tried. However, as the newer iPods don't have any kind of firewire circuitry, you can't use the firewire cable to sync you iPod.
    Best of luck.

  • Hollywood Dazzle and Firewire Hub killed FCP

I made the mistake of running DV devices through a FW hub into the same port on my PowerPC G5 and now FCP 5 won't open at all.
I've unplugged everything and reinstalled FCP to no avail.
How can I fix my problem?
System Profiler says my FW ports are still active and DVD studio pro and other associated applications still work.
    please help!

The Dazzle has anecdotal evidence of being very problematic and don't use a firewire hub in conjunction with any firewire devices and Final Cut Pro.
Do a forum search for the Guinness Solution, you may find the answers within the results. Also do a search for Dazzle and firewire hub and you'll find anecdotal evidence.
