Can I use a flat screen monitor with my Power Mac G$?

Can I connect my Power Mac G4 (model M5183) to a modern flat screen monitor? I already tried it with a small flat screen TV which works fine with my MacBook Pro but couldn't make it work with the G4. I only need the G4 for a SCSI slide scanner that I use occasionally, and would love to get rid of the mostrosity of a monitor that came with the G4. I've updated the processor in the G4 to 1 GHz and run it with OS 10.5.8.

Hi Ron, what ports are on the G4's Video card? VGA, DVI, or AGP?
Which Video card?
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac.
Then click on More Info>Hardware>Graphics/Displays and report like this...

Then, it may be possible to enable Screen Sharing on the G4 & control it all through the MBP.

I am doing a lot of photo organization and thought it would be easier if I had a touch screen monitor attached to my macbook pro.  Has anyone tried this and if so, what brand did you use.

All a touchscreen is going to do is replace your mouse or trackpad, you can't use two hands at once to gain any speed advantage organizing photo's.
Also it would have to be a pretty big touch screen, place your two hands over a 17" screen and most of the screen is blocked.
If you need something like that, talk to Microsoft, they have a "Big @ss table" that does that.

Yes, a 13" non-Air model requires a minimum of 60 watts, so you will be fine. If it is a 2011 or earlier model, the connector is the regular MagSafe, whereas this year's models use the MagSafe 2 that is different.

  • How to use one monitor with two Power Macs

I searched this forum and was unable to find an answer. Although I believe it's probably here.
Nevertheless, I have a Power Mac G5 and a rarely used Power Mac G3. I'd like to share the G5's VGA Accusync 120 CRT monitor with the G3. I know there is a way to switch the monitor between computers without pulling plugs in and out of the machines.
Does anyone have any specific switch I could buy to solve this issue. I don't care so much for picture quality for the G3. But I don't want to compromise picture quality for the G5.

You're looking for what's called a KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch.
This one should do what you're looking for. I've not used it, but it does VGA switching like you want and is inexpensive.

  • Can I use my Iphone4 in europe  with available power at 220v

I am taking my Iphone 4 to access my Email in Europe. The power adapter supplied is 120v. Can I use it at 220V supply common in Europe

Yes, the power adapter from Apple is "universal" - if you read the label it says 100 to 240 VAC 50/60 Hz, which covers power anywhere in the world. All you need is an adapter for the prongs.

  • Has anyone used a touch screen monitor with scxi.I am having video lock ups while using LV and MAX

I have a PCI-MIO-16XE-50 daq card (dev1) connected to a scxi-1000 chassis address 0 ID 1, with a scxi-1102,1163,1163,1162 slots 1,2,3,4 respectively.Cable is connected to daq card to 1102 card .Micro touch screen is used on com2. Have tried other serial ports 1,5. Touch screen works fine with windows until LabView and max is installed .Video lockups,Max failures occur.MAX seems to confict with touch screen.

Max is the NI interface for all the drivers. It may be a specific driver that is causing problems, perhaps NI-VISA. I would try installing things one piece at a time. Might want to start by uninstalling everything so that you start with a clean system. First install LabVIEW with no drivers at all. See if the Micro touch screen still works. Then try installing NI-DAQ. Install each of the drivers you need one at a time. If you don't need something, leave it out.

  • Is it possible to use my iMac G5 Monitor with my Intel Mac Mini

    Hello,
I have an iMac G5, and just received a new Mac Mini for my birthday. I don't have any display yet for the Mac Mini, so I would like to know if it's possible to link my Mac Mini to my iMac G5 so I can run the Mac Mini in my iMac Monitor ?
If there's a way to do it, can it be done even when I'm running Windows (PC) on my Mac Mini ?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Generally, no, that is not something that would work well. There is no video input on your iMac. So, you would have to use an adapter.
You can read a little bit about this here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3249369&#3249369
That discussion is regarding a XBox. But, the principle and options would be the same.
The Hybrid adapter that is discussed there would be the best option for you in terms of hardware solutions. But, you would need the appropriate cables to connect from the Mac Mini to the Elgato Hybrid and then to your PowerBook (some of which may come with the adapter).
As for a network and software solution, take a look at this discussion for a recommendation and description of a possible method:

    I hope this helps.

  • Can't use my Adobe Illustrator CS2 with my new Mac Book Pro - is there any way to fix?

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro only to find out AFTER I made the purchase that I would not be able to use my Illustrator CS2! Do I really have to purchase a complete version of CS5 or is there another way around this? Does anyone know if OSX 10.7.2 will work with any upgrades to CS2?

There is no Rosetta support in Lion, and most likely there never will be. You will have to update to CS5.

  • Does anyone recommend a flat screen monitor that works well with a MacBook?

I bought my 13" MacBook about 3 years ago and often find that I need a bigger screen for working on some projects but like the smaller portable size of my laptop. I'm thinking a good sized flat screen monitor would work for me, but don't want to drop a grand on an Apple monitor. Any one have luck with other brands?
I'm thinking 20 - 22". I mostly do my own marketing graphics and photography for my business and need to be able to work in Illustrator on a screen I can actually see things on. LOL!
Thanks for any suggestions or reviews.

  • Can 2 32" flat screen monitors work on a G5?

I have a G5 and have 2 32" flat screen monitors, i have them both hooked up and have them side by side. I view my main screen in 2560x1600 rez, but the other monitos wont go greater than 1280x800 is there a way to change this, it seems a little silly not getting full use out of a second high def monitor. Is there something i have to do differently to get them both to view in 2560x1600

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
It sounds like your graphics card only has one dual link DVI port, the other being single link.
To support two large monitors at 2560x1600 resolution requires a graphics card with two dual link DVI ports.
What G5 model do you have? What graphics card is installed?
