Can I use a power inverter?

Hello everybody
I did'nt know where to post this question...anyway
I have a show this weekend, and my booth doesn't have electricity, is it at all possible to take a car battery in with me and use a power inverter for powering my imac?
If I am running a slideshow demo, how long would the battery last?
does anybody have any other suggestions for powering the imac w/o power nearby?
thanks
Rob

If I had no choice but to use batteries, I'd:
1. Use at least 2 apple laptop batteries intended for my computer (fully charged).
2. If I also needed power for other items such as a camcorder, etc, I'd rent specialized 12 v. (low amp) batteries called "Bricks" from a video rental supply outfit prior to the trade show time. And I'd test the brick/s prior to showtime.
....or.....
If it were physically impractical to have an 120 AC outlet installed at my own booth, I'd ask to share electrical with a nearby booth while offering to pay for the entire service for both booths & run a heavy duty electrical extention cord grounded and carefully duct taped to the floor (along the back of the booth) or where there is very little /no traffic.

No. There is no "USB Target Disk Mode".
Just so we're clear, when you start your Mac mini in FireWire Target Disk Mode (TDM - holding T on startup), do you see a FireWire icon on the Mac mini's display? IIRC, it's not required that the Mac mini be connected to a display for TDM, but it would help diagnose whether or not the mini is actually starting in this mode.

Can I use a power cord from a Macbook air with a Macbook?

No, the MacBook Air power adapter is a 45 watt. A MacBook needs at least a 60 watt power adapter although you can use a MacBook Pro 85 watt adapter. You can use a higher wattage adapter without any problems.

  • MuVo2 (1,5G): Can I Use output power only (not install the battery) when I listen the mus

    Hi Sir:
When I am in home and listen the music on MuVo2 ,can I use output power only (AC power) and remove the battery ( the battery is not in the MuVo2)?
This is good to the MuVo2 or not ? (have any damange?)
Because I always use the MuVo2 in my home, I think to charge AC into the battery, and use it until in low battery , then charge again.. It seem to a little stupid....
Can I use AC(output power) only when I listen the music ? and remove the AC(output power) when I close/shut down the MuVo2 ? ( I know , the usermanual say it is not good to MuVo2 if AC(output power) "always on" the MuVo2 even it's shutdown.)
I saw in the usermanual there will be a little image indicate the MuVo2 is "output power only".... So can I use output power only or not ? Is it good to MuVo2?
    Thanks a lot !!
    ( Your product is great~!)

    Richard,
Yes, you can use the player on the AC outlet only if you want, that's fine.

  • Now that I upgraded to Maverick on my Mac air, I can not use the power button to shut down the computer anymore. any suggestions?

Now that I upgraded to Maverick on my Mac air, I can not use the power button to shut down the computer anymore. I now have to go to the apple icon in the upper left corner.  Any short cuts instead of going to the apple in the top left corner and hitting shut down.  Doing that all the time, I feel like I am back at work using a "Windows" computer.

This a is tricky one, but you can still do it. Instead of pressing the power button, hold it down for a few seconds and then you'll see the shut down options dialog pop up.
I guess they were trying to prevent accidental touching of that button. They did something similar with the Eject button a few versions ago, where you have to hold down Eject instead of just tapping it so that you don't pop out a CD by mistake.

  • HT4060 Can I use the power cord (30-pin and USB) that came with iPad 2 to charge it in my car's USB port?

Can I use the power cord (30-pin and USB) that came with iPad 2 to charge it in my car's USB port?  Or do I need to purchase one of those cigarette lighter charging devices?  Thanks!

You'd have to read your car manual but chances are it won't put out enough power for the iPad. The car is likely set up to charge a phone, most of which typically want half the power an iPad wants.
I think your  options are to get a cigarette lighter looking charger, making sure it's powerful enough for an iPad...or you can get power inverters for about $25, where they plug into the cigarette lighter/power point and have a normal household type outlet on the other end. Then you'd just plug your charger  in like you would at home.
Another option would be to look for something like a Zagg Sparq, which is a battery operated charger...plug the Sparq into the outlet at home. Its battery holds a charge and you can use that to charge your device. (zagg isn't the only manufacturer of such a device, Targus has one as well). Just look for portable chargers.
The key to remember is to make sure it's rated for an iPad, which will want more power than a cell phone.

  • HT1476 Can i use wall power charger 5v 1A to charge Ipod touch5 or only via usb?

Can i use wall power charger 5v 1A to charge Ipod touch5 or only via usb?

5volt 1amp charger is standard for charging the iPod (5watts). Using a USB port can take longer because the charging current can be somewhat less than 1amp. So you are better off using the wall charger.

  • I have iPad and I touch can I use the power cord

I have an iPad and an itouch can I use the same power cord

If you only want to use the one charger for both devices (e.g. to take on holiday) then the iPad's charger would be the best one to use as that will charge the iPad quicker, and it's safe to use with iPods and iPhones (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4327)

  • Can I use 90w power adapter interchangeably with my 65w computer?

    I have two Thinkpads:
    1) T400 that has a 90w 20v power adapater
    2) T430S that has a 65w 20v power adapter
Can I use the chargers interchangeably on the computers?  Are there any concerns, side effects?  My assumption is that using the 65w on the T400 will take longer to charge the battery.  More importantly, I would like to know if there will be any damage if I use the 90w charger on the T430S.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can interchange them without harming either ThinkPad. Note that there will be limitations with a 65W adapter:
    1. It will take longer to recharge the battery.
    2. It may not be powerful enough to power/recharge certain configurations, e.g. with i7 processors and/or discrete graphics processors.
    3. It may not be powerful enough to power/recharge certain types of usage, e.g. when watching a DVD while at the same time running HDD intensive applications.
    4. Certain features, e.g. RapidCharge on the T430s, won't work.

  • Imac G5, Can I use a power supply from a G4 Q-silver (rewired connector)?

I've got a G5 Imac with a blown PS, and I'm thinking of modifying a G4 Quicksilver power supply for use as the power source for a 20" Imac G5. Yeah, I know it sounds a bit weird, but hey, I was given this Imac G5 (1st Gen. 1.8GHz) for free. It's missing the back cover, and the PS is shot. So if I blow it up it no major loss. It's a project!
I have determined that the original PS is shot and needs to be replaced. I don't really want to drop $140 for a replacement PS, as I would also have purchase the back cover for another $40 + shipping. Go figure, right? It appears that most of those power suppies tend to fail early, anyway.
During my checks of the Imac internals, I also noted that during the "power on" tests, using the old power supply, I would get the second indicator light on the motherboard to flash for just a moment. According to Apple, this indicates that the motherboard is probably good, and that the power supply is bad as it's only providing a momentary voltage spike during the start up faze, before the power drains from the PS. Then it quits. So I thought, is it possible to use the QS power supply, only modifying (rewire) the main 22 pin connector voltages so they match the Imac's pinout? Both connectors are 22 pin and most of the pinout voltages match up the same. There would appear to be only two major connectors that would need to be rewired. So can I use a modified QS power supply to power my Imac?
A couple of extra notes about this Imac:
    1) There is no back or stand with this Imac, it just the main guts. So I would need to build a suitable enclosure to maintain proper air flow, and use the QS power supply outside the Imac. That wouldn't appear to be a big problem.
    2) My biggest concern is this. The QS power supply uses 28v for the start circuits, versus 24v for the G5 Imac PS. Would this make a significant difference, and if so, why? I'm assuming it will, but it an area I'm unsure of with the Imac. Any thoughts or experiance in this area here would be greatly appreciated.
    3) Hey, if worse comes to worse, I can always purchase the extra parts and rebuild the Imac for around $200-$300 US, and it would still be a deal (at least I think so). However, at present this is just a pet project, and if it goes south (doesn't work), it's not like I'm out some major $$$$.
    Thanks in advance!

I have no idea whether your ideas would work, but go to xlr8yourmac.com for some ideas. If you decide to purchase parts, try [http://www.synaptech.com/catalog> and also look at [http://www.jimwarholic.com/2008/07/how-to-repair-apple-imac-g5.php] for tips.

  • Can I use my Power Mac G5 Tiger installer on my old G4?

I have a Power Mac G5 that I bought in 2006 and an old Power Mac G4 from 2000 that I gave to my roommate. My G5 came with Tiger and iLife 06. I have since upgraded to Leopard and iLife 08, needless to say, I no longer use any of the software that came with my G5. The old G4 is currently running Panther and I wanted to upgrade it to Tiger using that G5 install disc but it wouldn't let me. Is there a way that I can do it?
