Can I use a SATA cable from a 2007 MacBook Pro for an SSD in a 2011 MacBook Pro?

Trying to replace the optical drive on my MacBook Pro with an SSD. The only SATA cable I have is from a 2007 model. Will that work? Also, I can't find a good sled for the drive... Will literally taping it in place suffice until I find such a sled?

An 85 watt charger will be fine. Generally, you can use a higher-powered charger than the one that came with your MBP - but using a lower-powered charger is not recommended.

Just from personal curiosity, which web pages did you visit with your question that had you end up here in the 10.3 and earlier forum Circa 2003 obsoleteware?
It seems a common fault with this Apple Spoort site that so many posts are made to this forum that are irrelevant.
Can you post a few links from your browser History, just for research?
To answer your question, to upgrade from 10.5 to 10.6 you need to purchase the 10.6 retail DVD such as from here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
(For your home country use the Apple localised site.)
The DVD is reasonablly priced, and once installed you can upgrade your iTunes etc.

  • Can I Use an IDE Cable from a Different Manufacturer?

I've recently got an MSI Intel P7N board after my ASUS AMD A8N-SLi Deluxe one broke after a couple of years.  I've got a question though which I'm not quite sure of.  The new board only came with 1 IDE cable, can I use one of the cables from the old AMD board in the new one?  Are there any compatibility risks involved or are they all pretty generic?
    Cheers in advance.

Cool thanks that's all I needed to know.  Best to make sure of these things before crashing my system

  • Can I use a power cord from a 2007 iBook?

I have extra power cords from my old iBook - I would keep one at home and one at work. It appears to fit the new 13" MacBook Pro. They are both made by CE and appear identical except for the 90º magnetic connector on the new model. They are both labeled: Input AC100-240v-50-60Hz 15A; Output 16.5v 3.65A ADP-60AD B
I don't want to blow anything up...

Actually I misspoke: the old laptop is an early generation white polycarbonate MacBook with the first Intel core duo. It does have a Magsafe, and I am asking if I can plug the entire cable from the old MacBook from the wall into the new MacBook Pro.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Can I use hard drive cable from 15" MBP in 13" MBP?

I'll start of with the tl;dr:
My mid 2012 13" MBP is acting up and I believe it's the hard drive cable that is broken. Thing is, I've got an early 2011 15" MBP with broken GPU. Can I salvage that cable and use in my 13" or will something go to ****?
Problem in general is my 13" MBP doesn't work properly with the connected hard drive. I can boot from an external drive without any issues and I can even see the internal one (luckily I could rescue all my files this way, albeit it transfering them was slow as ****) but I can't boot from the internal one, the computer just stucks on the apple logo forever.
I've also tried reinstalling the OS and managed to start the installer but after installing for roughly 5 hours it got stuck at "less than one minute remaning" over the night so I killed it. Then I tried putting the hard drive in a USB-case and it worked fine. And then I tried another working hard drive as the internal drive and experienced the exact same problem.
Edit: spelling From googling I've concluded that the mid 2012 13" MBP has had issues with broken hard drive cables, so I figured I'd try that. But it would be nice if I didn't have to buy a new one and wait for it to ship
    Any help is welcome!

You know there's a recall on that model:
    Apple Recall:

Yah don't think swapping the cables will work. Since there's a recall on your 15"  I wouldn't go messing around inside least you get rejected for recall for modding.

  • I have just used migration assistant to import photos (using an ethernet cable) from my PC. It has worked but they have gone into a new user on my MacPro. How can I merge them into the one user account.

I have just used migration assistant to import photos (using an ethernet cable) from my PC. It has worked but they have gone into a new user on my MacPro. How can I merge them into the one user account.

How many pictures (or how many bytes) are we talking?  Now that the pictures are imported one way to cross users is to use a removable drive (although large volumes of files preclude this).
The other is to login as the user where the pictures are, then copy them into the public drop box of the user where you want the picture.
The arrow is showing (in ths example) copy files from the Pictures folder for my user to the guest user accounts public dropbox.  When you do this you may have to authenticate and you won't be able to see the results of the copy until you log in as the other user.
All users are in the folder "/Users/"

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • Cant hear audio using an hdmi cable from my MacBook Pro to an HDTV

i'm trying to watch video and streaming video from my McBook Pro on an HDTV via an HDMI cable.  i can see the video but there is no sound.  help?

What year was your Mac made, IE what Model year is it and what model is it?
With newer Macs all you need is a good Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter, I know the Griffin model work as I have one, and a HDMI cable.
If a Retina model that has a HDMI out port then you don't need any adapters of any kind. Just a cable from HDMI to HDMI ports on Mac and TV.
Once you have a good adapter, if you need one, and the cable is connected to the TV go into System Preferences and the Sound Applet and there should be an option in the Output section for HDMI. Enable that and the sound will be sent over the HDMI cable to the TV.
If you have an older Mac computer then you may need to use a separate cable from the Mac headphone out port to a Line In port on the TV

  • HT1665 Recently read on a deal site forum page that you can only use Apple lightning cables to charge iPads running iOS 7 or higher. Is that the case or will any 8-pin to USB cable work? Thx in advance for any helpful replies.

Recently read on a deal site forum page that you can only use Apple lightning cables to charge iPad Air or iPad Mini Retina running iOS 7 or higher. Is that the case or will any 8-pin to USB cable work? Thx in advance for any helpful replies.

Due to a lot of bad press that Apple was getting due to burnt chargers, shocked users (the electrical kind...), etc., due to the lousy third party El Cheapo brand generics, as of iOS 7 the cable must be Apple-certified before the iGadget deigns to use it for charging purposes. Unfortunately (for Apple) the old traditional USB to 30-pin cable is just that, a straight piece of wire, and can't be validated by the iGadget. But lo & behold, the new gear uses the new Lightning cable, which contains an embedded chip that CAN be validated and lousy imitations disabled from use.

  • Can I use a sim card from my galaxy S3 for and iphone

Wanted to know if I purchase an iphone 5 can I use the sim card from my Galaxy S3 Verizon phone.

    hi there,
    unfortunately you cannot.
The iPhone 5 uses a 4th generation SIM card (NanoSIM) while the Samsung Galaxy S3 uses a 3rd generation MicroSIM. You can however use your existing MicroSIM in an iPhone 4 or 4S
    Hope this helps,
    Chris
