Can I use a smart card reader to avoid typing the master password?

Does anyone know if there's a way of using some physical card reader to avoid having to type the 'Master Password' when prompted for one?
I understand some people use CAC readers to access certain sites but I'm wondering if there exists some extension/software that can be used to achieve this.
If relevant, I'm running Firefox 4.0.1 on Windows 7 x64.

I bought my mac pro (first time owner) last July in New Jersey, U.S.A., and with this, I was given gift cards with the said purchase. I am currently in the Philippines and will be here until late next year, and would like to use the gift cards to purchase apps in the app store. Unfortunately, I was informed that I can only use it if I go back to the U.S., since the address I indicated in the purchase is my address there.
Is it possible for me to use them here in the Philippines, because my next trip to the U.S. is still undetermined. I can provide other needed info should it be required.

I have a Canadian apple ID and password andhave used ITunes cards in the past when in Canada to purchase music and download to my computer. I reside in the U.S. for several months each winter and just purchased an ITunes card here in Arizona. When I tried to purchase music on the Itunes store it would not accept the ITunes card as it said it was associated with a Canadian account. If I open an account on the U.S. itunes store and download music to my computer will I still be able to transfer that music to my Iphone without losing any of my existing music??? ?Thanks for your replies. Need advice for an application that restricts access to other applications using a smart card

Hello everybody,
I am developing a system that uses a smart card reader attached to a USB port of a PC.
What the system should provide is:
When computer boots up and shows the users login screen, a user, previously registered, can use his smart card to access the system, instead of entering his password
Once the user is logged in, when he tries to launch an application, which has previously marked as "secured", a dialog box is shown indicating that the user has to present his smart card. If the smart card has access to the application, the application
is launched, otherwise an error message is shown to the user and the application is not executed.
I develop in C++ and C#. I have already created a library (in Visual C++) that manages the smart card reader and provides the card presented to it.
Now I am developing the applicastion (in C#) that will configure the security (assigning cards to users and applications).
Concerning this, I have 2 questions regarding each point above:
Is it possible to create the centralized application that lists all users and allows to assign cards to them? Then, when the users login screen is shown, the system must access that data before logging in, so that it can check which card was presented and
what user it corresponds to. I have seen in laptops, that have embedded fingerprint readers, a user must login to his account first and then he can register his fingerprints. In fact, what I need to do is something similar but with smart card reader instead
of fingerprint reader. So, perhaps, user must login into his account first and then he will be able to add his card and store that information somewhere (in windows registry maybe).
How can I launch my application when other application is executed but before its interface is actually shown? this is similar to what antivirus programs do, because they check the executable before it is actually ran. What is the best method to address
the application? by executable file name? process name? or other? if the best is by process name, how can I know the process name without actually running the application?
Well, that is all what I need to do. Please advice regarding this subject.

1. Research other software that does similar things (not just exactly the same) as you need. If you like something in their solutions, copy it :)
The only software I know that does that is an antivirus, but I am unlucky to find some code in c++ that allows to intercept the program execution before actually executing it.
2. If a kernel driver would fit in your solution, go for it (google for what is available for free, or find a consultant to write it for you).
There are a lot of information about kernel drivers, but the question is, is that really the solution?
Otherwise, you can just hide the application from user's reach and substitute the executable in shortcuts, etc. to run your program instead.

By executable file name, like in the Windows Applocker, I think. Processes do not have names (they are artifact of Task manager and debugging tools, to represent the processes for user somehow). Or, only by the filename part of the full path.

When the user runs the application, the driver will detect this and do its magic.

T450s -- Display, NGFF SSD, Smart Card Reader, and m.2 SSD slots

I'm looking to order a T450s and have a few questions about options when configuring the order:
1080 Display -- Does anyone know if the 1080 display (non-touch) is made by LG or AUO or someone else? There was extensive discussion about the T440s, and people got different brands and the AUO was the preferred brand.
16GB m.2 NGFF SSD -- If I remove this option, and want to add a 3rd party compatible NGFF SSD later, can I do this?
3rd m.2 SSD Slot -- The options are None, 3rd m.2 SSD slot, or Smart Card Reader. If I select the Smart Card Reader option, can I later remove the Smart Card Reader and use it as a 3rd m.2 SSD slot? Or, if I select 3rd m.2 SSD slot and later want to use it for a Smart Card Reader, can I buy a Smart Card Reader and plug it into the slot?

Lenovo uses different FHD diplays for the T450s: one by AU Optronics and the other by LG Display.
However, the T450s uses a different LG display than the T440s. The LG screen of the T450s ("
LP140WF3-SPD1") seems to be much better than the LG screen of the T440s.
If you remove the 16GB M.2 SSD option, you can add a M.2 SSD later.
If you have a device with two M.2 slots, you can't use a M.2 SSD and WWAN at the same time.
If you have a device with three M.2 slots, you can only use single-sided M.2 SSDs in the third M.2 slot.
Both the SmartCard reader and the third M.2 slot are attached to the mainboard via a flexible flat cable.
If you choose the SmartCard reader, the warranty might be lost if you want to use the third M.2 slot, because you have to replace some parts that aren't so-called CRUs (consumer replaceable units).

Smart Card Reader - How to turn off logon screen from reboot or wake up

I just set up the bluetooth reader on my laptop and now when my laptop wakes up or on reboot the BB smart card reader is there to logon. I rarely use my smart card reader on my laptop, i use it primarily on my phone. I don't want to unistall it but I dont need to see that screen. Any one know how to shut it off?

Most likely after installing it changed the PC log on type to the reader.

Smart Card Reader not showing correct certificates?

Running 10.5.6 with an SCR331, G4 desktop. I have been using entourage, smart card reader, and CAC successfully for quite some time.
My CAC was recently updated with new certificates. When I insert my card reader with CAC into my machine, the keychain (and Entourage) show the old certificates which aren't even on my CAC anymore. Obviously I can't get Entourage (or other websites) to work without being able to access the new certs.
I verified the CAC & reader were good by looking at it using a windows XP machine. The three new certificates were there.
I also used another Mac (lap top) to verify the certs. I inserted my reader into the lap top, and the keychain on that machine displayed the correct certificates.
I have tried several methods of rebuilding/replacing my keychain without success. Is there another token that needs to be cleared? Any help in letting access the new certificates would be very much appreciated.

If you did what a lot of people did you put your certs locally and you do not need to do this. Delete them from your keychain and just in cert your CAC. Then create a "IDPref" for the DoD site you are trying to access and you should be good to go. If you need help, I have written a good "How-to" on my webblog. Just do a search for "safari and CAC".

Smart Card Reader 2 syncing issue - 9 digit ID

I have a phone I am trying to set up for a customer with the BlackBerry Smart Card Reader 2. Both the phone and the card reader are running the same version of the software, as they both have the version that is installed on my desktop (5.0). However, the card reader has a 9-digit ID name, and the BlackBerry will only accept 8-digit ID information in the selected box. I've read online of people having this issue but haven't found a fix. Can anyone assist me with this problem?
BB in question is a Bold 9930 on Verizon.

Smart Card Reader 2 on Windows 8

I have a need to use a smart card to log into my work laptop. Unfortunately, my laptop does not have a built-in smart card reader and I'd like to avoid using an external USB smart card reader if possible. For this reason, I purchased a Blackberry Smart Card Reader 2, which from what I could find online, should be able to provide the same functionality as an external USB smart card reader.
I installed the software and rebooted the computer. However, when I try and discover the Smart Card Reader (SCR) the laptop seems to see the SCR, but then the connection window closes and I never get the chance to enter the PIN. Reviewing the eventlogs and system processes, I can see that BlackberrySCRService.exe process which is running as a service quits after the device is discovered.
I've tried running the Windows compatibility tool on the process which suggested running in XP compatibility mode, but that did not help. Can somebody tell me how I can use my Blackberry SCR 2 on my Windows 8 laptop? Thanks in advance.

My personal understanding is that this reader is not compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8, and only if that BlackBerry is linked to a BES server.

Smart Card Reader on Leopard

Has anyone tried to use a Smart Card reader and CAC with Leopard? It worked flawlessly with Tiger, but Leopard doesn't even recognize the reader is attached. I can run Parallels with XP and it immediately recognizes it works with all sites, so I know the reader is good and the USB bus is ok.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have a SCR331 and I am not able to get 10.5 to recognize my CAC card.
I do believe Leopard is recognizing and using the SCR331 but the problem
lies in the CAC Card Driver. Here are the details :
Hardware : SCR331 USB with firmware 5.22
CAC Card : Oberthur ID One v5.2

Why does a smart card reader kill MacOS?

I need a smart card within a virtual machine on my Mac. The trouble is, every time I connect the reader, my MacOS stops working properly.
When the smart card reader is connected before the Mac is turned on, then I can't login: After entering the password, it hangs with the spinning color icon.
I can boot without the reader, though. If the reader is plugged in after boot, this happens:
Safari doesn't start up, all I see is the color spinner. Finder gets blocked as well while Safari is trying to start up (i.e. forever)
If I have a Terminal open, then I can "kill -9" the Safari process, which unblocks the Finder.
When I then try to shut down, it hangs with a white screen, and never properly finishes until power off.
How can I debug or solve this problem?

It's a very common device (Omnikey 3121), which should be compatible. Nevertheless, I installed drivers from the manufactor's site to see if they make any difference. On reboot after driver installation I got a kernel panic within the HID drivers. Very strange.

Acrobat 9 (included in CS4 design premium) does not recognize the smart card reader. I have a smart card reader ACR38 smart card that works with all applications except Acrobat 9 pro. I tried to uninstall and reinstall it again, but when I try to insert the digital signature message is always the same, that does not find the Acrobat reader. Can someone help me?

Thank you for your reply, i have tried what you suggest, and it did not work, the i DVD opening title changed but not the embedded movie.
Perhaps it is a setting in Final Cut Express?
After capturing my footage, i open a new project then i convert all clips to anamorphic, to give me the letterbox effect, i have tried now with and without anamorphic.
In my canvas screen, the footage does not fill the square, even if i have not selected anamorphic, and fall well within the TV safe areas, but the only way to ill the canvas up is to crop it bigger, but still when i export it does not give me the full screen view.
Any ideas?
