I am having trouble. I want to know if I can use the song Dateline in iPhoto on iPad in iMovie. Is there away. I am making a movie and its due on Friday. HELP!!!

You mean, you want to use the theme music "Dateline" from the iPhoto slideshow theme on your iPad?
iPhoto on the iPad does not support the export of slideshows, so I see no way to share the audio to iMovie or the Music app the iPad. If you really want it, try to play the music and record the audio using the headphone jack on a deifferent device that can record and digtize audio.

Before you can decide what to do, you have to know what you are starting with. Sony MPEG-1 files would be converted one way while DivX or WMV files would likely be handled in another. Extraneous tracks can be removed directly with QT Pro but if you don't have QT Pro then there may or may not be other work around possibilities depending on the specific audio and video compression formats in use. The best place to start would normally be to double-clic the source file in iPhoto to open it in the QT Player. When it opens in the QT Player, check the "Inspector" window to see what it says on the "Format:" lines. This will tell you the type of audio and video content you are dealing with here. Then come and tell us so we can offer some specific conversion solutions.

I can't get my movies from iphoto to imovie

I am very new to mac. I just got my first mac a month ago. I am trying really hard to make a movie. I can get pictures from iphoto onto imovie no problem. But I can't get movies. I can see my movies and play them on iphoto, but when I bring up things to import only photos show up. Somehow by accident I imported 8 videos straight from my camera into imovie and they work just fine..once they get in there. On the tutorial videos it says that imovie will automatically ask if you want to import videos straight from your camera onto imovie. Mine has never done this. I don't know. I have been watching tutorial videos and messing with this thing for 2 weeks and I can't seem to make a movie with any movie clips!! I can make one just fine if I only want to use pictures. I am just so frustrated!! One of the main reasons I got a mac was so I could make better videos for youtube.

If you don't want the file placed there, next time change the target location before pressing the "Make" button. Appleman has given you one easy method. Another would be to simply drag the file from the "Documents" folder and drop it to any Event name in your Event Library list. Another method would be to create a new folder, name it, put the file in the named folder and place the folder into any convenient "iMovie Events" folder already in use. The next time you open iMovie, the new "Event" folder name will show up in the Event Library list. Be advised however, that movie clips cannot be dropped directly to either a Project window (like music or photos) or an Event window.

You can either convert them yourself or try to get iMovie '09 to convert them as part of an "Import from Camera/Archive" process. Some individual have reported the iMovie '09 will convert multiplexed MPEG-1 files, as well as, MPEG-2 files. You can always search the forum and see if you can duplicate their work flow. I usually recommend MPEG Streamclip since it is 100% effective assuming the source file is not corrupted (i.e., improperly terminated and track descriptions are in tact.) It also has the ability to "fix" timecode breaks which can occur when segments are merged. While PC platforms ignore such things, QT does not since it uses temporal synchronization rather than spatial synchronizations.

Can't get movies/pics from iPhoto into iMovie

Hello, I have read a lot of other threads but haven't yet found this answer. I am new to Mac as of 1/09 and just started using iMovie one year later (this month). I go back and forth between a Sony Cyber-shot DCS-W230 and a Sanyo VPC-TH1. Both do stills as well as video. I have a lot both on iPhoto as well as Picasa from the past year. Only one movie actually went into my iMovie library and a few pics. Can anyone tell me why this is? I haven't (knowingly) changed any settings. I can view them in (iPhoto and Picasa) including watching the movies. Why won't they import into iMovie? I tried using Streamline but it's very confusing and the one 25 minute movie I got to convert took hours and didn't even line up with the audio so that was a waste. If they weren't compatible with iMac wouldn't it just not work at all instead of some? I've spent hours experimenting and reading instructions, forums, I've called Apple support, etc. and I'm so frustrated because I still don't have an answer. If someone could help me resolve this I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Importing my own little movies from my SD550, I used to see them in .MOV format. Now I see them as .AVI files and QuickTime cannot open them anymore. As a matter of fact, *nothing* can open these files anymore, and I have tried Flip4Mac, DivXPlayer,MoviePod, iMovieHD and Windows Media for Mac. Guess what: the only way I can open them is with iMovie 7.0.1.
So I suspect something in the Mac core is transforming my imports into files that are difficult to read. QuickTime perhaps?

Can't move mpeg clip from Iphoto to imovie

Im a new MacBook Pro owner. I have done my first upload of pictures and video from my digital camera. Everything is visible and and video plays in Iphoto.
In imovie, I cannot get the video clips to transfer to imovie to add to my project to my dismay. The photos easily transferred but not the video clips. A sample clip is named mov04914.mpg. Could it be a file type issue?

iMovie '08 only imports what it can edit. Other files are ignored. Muxed compression formats like MPEG-1 are not editable in iMovie. Convert them using a third-party, MPEG-based application like iSquint (free), MPEG Streamclip (free), FFmpegX (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), or similar application.

The weird thing is, when u make your own ringtones, they sound terrible when set as a ringtone (really tiny and generally awful), but when u set them as a text tone or any other alert they sound great (like they do when u play them through the music app).

On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library
It may be in either.

Can't use Jpegs from iphoto in imovie

Was successfully using still images from iphoto in my imovie project until 2 nights ago. Imovie froze while I was trying to adjust a transition between jpegs. I had to quit imovie. Now, not only is the project inaccessable for editing (it's visible in the list of projects, just can't select it) imovie will no longer recognise any jpegs I drag into a project from iphoto. Read several fixes in blogs but none are working.

Please tell: What fixes did You try - that didn't work - so we can omit them.
A. Corrupted iMovie pref file - very common problem
- Trash all iMovie pref files (or rather to test this - start a new User Account / Log into this - if iMovie now works OK then the problem most likely is here)
B. Correpted iMovie movie project - the other project's run's well
C. iPhoto - Corrupted iPhoto Library
- THIS TAKES SEVERAL HOUR TO MEND and
- YOU need lot's of free space on Your Start-Up (Macintosh HD) Hard Disk - else it might crash !
To me it takes about 24 hours - AND I CAN NOT use the Mac during this time (just to prevent it from HANGING and destroying more than can be fixed)
Start iPhoto - BUT KEEP option-key AND cmd-key down during all up-start.
Now You got a list to select from - SELECT ALL
IF a Lap-top - CONNECT Power-Mains - Battery will not last !
Do something else for lot's of hours.
When its done - Close iPhoto
Open iMovie and see if it now works OK

Can I backup my photos from iPhoto using terminal or any other way(to a portable hard drive) as I have turned my laptop on and it has came to a screen giving me the option to back up from time machine, reinstall IOS or clean my drives, but neither are working so I believe I am going to have to erase my whole hard drive and potentially get a new one, but my only problem is that I haven't backed up my iPhoto images before so is there anyway I can do this?

You are booted from Recovery Drive. Have you tried restarting so you boot normally?
