Can i use a usb to see films stored

ok i want know if i can use the usb connection to view videos stored on the usb.

Probably not.
THere is a way you can view videos off a USB using the USB part of the camera connection kit. But those files need to follow a very strict naming convention, as well as the fact that I've literally had a 50/50 success rate getting USB drives to work.
THere is zero protocol support for something like 'hooking a USB hard drive up to your iPad and viewing content off it via USB'.
So in theory, it can work. But it takes a lot of time and fiddling.
If it's something you just have to do, there is a way that works a bit better. Use an SD card - which doesn't trigger the 'draws too much power' warning that most USB's do.
Name your video files with exactly 8 characters (DSC_3454 for example)
Put those video files into a folder named DCIM located on the top level of your SD card
Plug it in with the SD part of the camera connection kit. Your photo app should open and then you can see thumbnails of the videos (consult the ipad manual for the file types the iPad will play)
THe trick is that you can't view them off the SD card. You have to import them onto the iPad, try to open them via the photos app which will then open the video app and you can view the file. You then delete it. (So there is also the complication that you must have enough free space on your device to import whatever video file you want to view)
So it does work but not easily and intuitively.
There are some specific drives out there that may work better for you. The seagate goflex which allows you to stream videos from it to the iPad via an app is one. The Kingston WiDrive I believe it's called may also offer some functionality.
However the iPad was designed with the idea that a user would purchase/obtain all files from or through iTunes or the cloud, so there's no file manager to support what you're wanting to do, so all there are are workarounds.

can I use an USB disc with my macbook pro bought in 2005.  What capacity will it take 2.00 or 3.00?

The first MacBook Pro's were not released until the beginning of 2006, and they had USB 2 ports.
Anything available new in 2005 would have been a PowerBook G4 and they also had USB 2 ports.
A USB 3 disk will just transfer data slower then it could do, if you plug it into a USB 2 port though, so you can buy either.

  • Can I use a USB camera to import directly live footage into imovie as opposed to firewire?

    Hi!
I use iMovie to directly import live footage from my camcorder.
I've been using old Mini DV cameras to do this but this technology is being outdated with camera manufacturers now all moving to USB.
Can I use a USB camera to take live footage directly into iMovie just the same was as i've been doing with the firewire connection via the old Mini DV camcorders.
Alternatively, are there any firewire camera's that any could reccomend?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Chris.

No, you cannot import in real time from USB. These USB camcorders will import faster than real time or slower than real time, depending on the speed of your computer.
If you need to import in real time, there are some USB webcams out there that are used mainly for video chats and the like that might work. You may find an HD model. You can also do this with your built in iSight camera.
With a real HD video camcorder, you will need to import it after you shoot.

  • Can I use my airport to see how many devices are on my network?

Can I use my airport to see how many devices are on my network?

No, that info was removed from the airport utility at v6 toyland edition.
The last real utility was 5.6.1 and although it is not actually supposed to work on AC model it does sometimes.
But you can generally see what is on your network using the netstat command in the computer..
Open the network utility and go to the netstat page and run scan.. this can take a few minutes.. and should show all the clients as well as the router/s. At least all the ones the computer can see.
The network utility is under utilized as people seem to not know of it.
There are iOS tools like this as well. Sorry but I don't remember the name/s.

Can I use a USB thumb drive with iPad2

What do you want to do with the thumb drive?
If for picture/movie files, You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.

Can I use a usb external hard drive larger than 2TB?  I have tried to use a 3TB but it shows up as 800GB.  Even tred to reformat in disk utility but only shows as 800 gb as well.  It is a Seagate 3TB harddrive and enclosure.  Nothing on the Seagate site about it other than it says Mac os through 10.6 is supported  for larger than 2TB (might be old).

  • Can i use a usb like 3g usb on the airpot

Can i use a usb internet to connect two laptops at once through a 3g usb or a usb system thats found in africa juz plug and use but can use it on airport exterme and then connect two laptops at once and even tke out the usb and crry it around when i wont : usb found in africa:http://www.mtl.mw/phonesandaccessories.html

Sorry - I have no experience or knowledge to give you a direct answer.
The specs for the EC506 show it has a maximum data rate comparable to what a basic DSL broadband connection provides in Europe or North America. If that spec is true under "real world" conditions in Africa, the connection would be pretty good.

  • Can i use a usb extension

You will be fine using a USB extension.
    Hi Tamara
I have a question. Is it possible that a standard USB extension cable purchased from ... anywheremart connected to the iPhone dock could cause a kernel panic attack?
To be honest, I hope that is what caused 2 such attacks today. I purchased one of the new Magic Mouses and since my MacPro doesn't have bluetooth I purchased the rocketFish Micro Bluetooth adapter from Best Buy to enable Bluetooth for the mouse. I used it yesterday with not problems, everything was fine. Today, I decided I wanted to move my iPhone dock further away from my computer and well, as we all know that cable is not very long. So, I used an old USB extension cable I found in the closet left over from my PC days.
After running everything with that cable for several hours today, I got a panic attack (well the computer first, then me). The only thing I figured it could be was either the rockfish bluetooth adapter or the usb extension cable. Since a friend has had the rockfish connected to his MacPro for a few days now without any problems, I'm hoping my problem is the cable.
Any thoughts? One other observation. The keyboard extension cable that comes with the MacPro is specially keyed to prevent you from connecting it to the iPhone usb cable, so I'm thinking that maybe any cable that is connected to the iPhone or iPhone doc is specialized.
    Thanks
    Ron

  • Can I use a USB 2.0 external HDD as a bootable clone?

    Hi all -
That's the question really, apologies if it's been asked numerous time before, I couldn't find a straight answer when I searched. I currently have 2 Firewire externals. One is for Time Machine, the other is a bootable clone. However the bootable clone is too small for my current iMac's internal HDD. Can I use a USB 2.0 instead or does it have to be Firewire? And would it need its own power supply, or could it be USB powered?
    Thanks

No prob, Thanks for the star.
Your better off starting a new thread for a new question as it will have a different title and more people may be able to help.
A quick search in amazon brought up this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-500GB-Scorpio-Laptop/dp/B001JSSDGU/ref=sr12?ie=UTF8&qid=1232579874&sr=8-2
you will need to get an external case for it. It may need two usb ports or may not, I'm not to sure. It may work at a slower peed with one and max speed with two. A good google search is an excellent way of finding answers.
