Can I use a version 4 upgrade to update a copy of DVD Studio Pro?

Hi there
I have DVD Studio Pro 1 and would like to upgrade to 4. I have the chance of an unopened v4 upgrade and want to know if this is feasible?
Any help gratefully received.

Take a look at the DVD SP Upgrade Box to see what the requirements are for the upgrade (should say which versions are needed). Also you can get the Universal Binary Suite (all Apps) off the DVD SP 4 upgrade disc for a real good price

  • How Can I Create a Function to Return to a Specific Menu on DVD Studio Pro?

Hello, I am currently building a DVD for a TV series I created while in college, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to create a function within the DVD that lets the user select the title or menu buttons on their remotes and have that return them either to a) the main menu or b) the menu they were just at, ie episode select or chapter select. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks for the help. I'm still a little confused on how to get it select which menu that I would like to return to.

  • Using themes from iDVD in DVD Studio Pro

I have both Final Cut Pro Studio and I have iLife '08. I really like some of the new themes in iDVD '08. Is there a way I can use these themes, or are some of them available for DVD Studio Pro? Does the newest version of Final Cut Studio Pro enable this? It would be a good reason for me to buy the upgrade.

You cannot open up iLife '08 iDVD projects any version of DVD SP. DVD SP does have some themes and you can try to get assets from iDVD projects to work with such as this to some degree

There are many reasons I can give you to get the new Studio (not sure which one you have) but I really enjoy the new one. Opening iDVD is not one of the reasons though

  • Am I just dense? Or is DVD Studio Pro 1.5 really hard to use?

I got Final Cut Pro 3 and DVD Studio Pro 1.5 at the same time at the end of 2002. I always use iDVD to burn discs because I can't seem to figure out Studio Pro 1.5, but I had no problem figuring out Final Cut Pro. Here is my dilemma: I have a couple of projects that are going to exceed the 1 hour limit of iDVD (the version I have at least), and I was wondering if I should upgrade to Studio Pro 4. This of course would mean having to upgrade Jaguar to Tiger and also upgrading FCP. Is the new DVD Studio Pro much more user friendly? Is the newest iDVD able to burn up to 2 hours on a disc? Would I be better off just buying Tiger and iLife to get iDVD?

Hal an David have it covered
That being said I am one of the ones who really liked DVD SP 1.5.2, followed by DVD SP 3. DVD SP 2 did make sharper menus it seemed. DVD SP 4 added a couple of things that were good but not critical for most things.
DVD SP 4 is now only available (unless you can find an older version of 4) as DVD SP 4.1 Universal Binary. It has some issues and so does Tiger (again this is what I have found so far) I take the tact that if it ain't broke don't fix it - and when I do upgrades on OSes or software I first do it on machines that I do not HAVE to have working properly (or on another boot disc in a tower.)
In other words be careful stepping into this. Do not recall when iDVD started to support Dual Layer projects, but the new one does, with the caveat that I do not recall if you can burn DL to external burners or not (which is not an issue anyway if you take a look at
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/image_to_diskstone.html)
TIger and iLife will be less costly that the new Suite (if that becomes your only option) and all the iApps in and of themselves I like alot for the most part - iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD and Garageband [iTunes is free, the website software does not do much for me], so if you are comfortable with iDVD it may be the way to go as a less costly step. At some point you may like the to step into DVD SP.
All that being said there is an upgrade to the full suite
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio
off of Final Cut Pro 3 for $699 still available for the next few weeks
    http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/
And the Final Cut side was a real good upgrade off of FCP 3 in terms of what was added, really like Motion and Soundtrack and DVD SP is still there. You will need Tiger (not sure though of all the specs on your machine and whether it will support all the software and/or features in the software, depends on processor, video card etc.- but my guess is you should be able to use it somewhat, I run the suite, other than Motion, on a tiBook 1ghz)
And DVD SP 4.1, even with some of its issue, is still good, you just got to be aware of one or two things, that hopefully Apple is working on fixing anyway.

  • Have they replaced DVD Studio Pro?  I can't find it in the Apple Store.

My new computer needs FCP and DVD Studio Pro.

    Hi
And there are at least three working - but in a way very simple options from Apple still
    • FinalCut Pro X - can make simple Video-DVDs
    • Compressor™ - also for (as I get it - simple but very good .mpg2 codes - few menu's)
    • Free DVD Creator.app - free from Apple Store
But that's all from Apple today
iDVD and DVD Studio Pro - was so much better !
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    • Free DVD Creator.app - free from Apple Store
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.
    Yours Bengt W

Thanks for the tip, but like I said, I dont want to always have to use the arrow keys. Is it not possible to actually DRAG one pixel at a time? I recently upgraded to CC from CS3 and I keep running into things that feel like a downgrade. Super disappointed.
Our posts overlapped there.  Are you saying you could reliably drag one pixel with CS3?
What other issues are you having?  Things like the Crop tool can feel strange at first, but I promise you you'll never want to use Classic mode once you get used to it.

You can't install Lion over Leopard. To install Lion, a requirement is Snow Leopard. So you can either upgrade to Snow Leopard first or you can make a bootable Lion install disc and use that to wipe your hard drive and install a fresh copy of Lion.
So to make a disk would require you to purchase Snow Leopard and upgrade to 10.6.8 so you can use the App Store, unless you have access to another computer to download it from with your Apple ID. Remember it is about a 3.4GB download.
    Good Luck

Check the "Purchases" page in the Mac App Store and see if there is a more recent version there already waiting for you.

  • I just ran the updates for my MacBook Pro and now my iphoto will not open.  It says "You can't use this version of the application "iphoto" with this version of os x.  You have "iphoto 9.2.3

I just ran my updates for my MacBook Pro and now my iphoto won't open. I get a pop up that say's You can't use this version of the applicaton IPhoto with this version of os x.  You have iphoto 9.2.3.

This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1.

  • Can't use older versions of Skype anymore?

Alright, so I hate when things update, and usually I just put up with it for new innovative features. I was very content with Skype 5, and the upgrade to 6.0 was frustrating, but I dealt with it. Never at any point during my use of 6 did I prefer it to 5, even as time went on.
Finally, we get to today. I was forced to download Skype 7, and it is the most horrible, buggy, frustrating thing ever. I can barely do anything without it randomly freezing, or spiking in memory usage. I'm using the right version for my computer, my computer is very up to date on hardware, and I've had no software problems with ANY other program to this magnatude. And that's BESIDE the fact that Skype 7 just looks DISGUSTING. The organization of my recent messages and contacts is downright attrocious and I can barely keep my recent replies in check.
The worst part is that I can't downgrade to a better version. After STRUGGLING to find an older version, it just tells me that Skype can't connect. Are you serious? I'm being FORCED to use this useless piece of junk? I've used a LOT of Skype (at least 5 hours a day daily since I got it.) And I think this is the last straw for me. I don't know what to do, I can't use this version, it's terrible.
The question I'm posing in this thread, is how do I use an older version of Skype. If the answer is "I don't." Then I'm uninstalling and never coming back.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have the same problem. This morning my skype decided it was time to update itself. Even though (of course), it shouldn't even check for updates or ask me to update. Or at least these are my settings...
However, this has happened before. But before, when skype updated, I could just uninstall it and install the version that I want to (keeping an exe with the proper version always did the trick). The things is that when I tried to install my older version after uninstalling, skype installer says that servers are down. Meaning that skype has stopped working with these older versions. They are now forbidden to install (even if you find an installer somewhere and OldVersion and OldApps have stopped support for skype).
I am seriously considering forgetting about skype and using an alternative. Some people have mentioned the emoticons and the general layout of the new version that disgusts them. But I will also add that the way we used to send pictures over skype is now changed. And it's horrible! Sending a link with the shared photo is just waste of time. You'd need to open a browser, log in, open the photo and download it just so you can have it on your computer (wtf??). Adding to this is the decrease of its quality and resolution and the missing name of the picture.
Thank you for reading (a potato).

  • You can't use this version of the application "logic pro" with this version of os x

After installing all of Logic Studio (i.e. install dvd, audio content 1-3, jam packs 1-3), my laptop concludes that everything is installed successfully, however, when going to open to Logic, error icon appears and says:
'you can't use this version of the application "logic pro" with this version of os x'

Thank you! I found that just after I entered the question. I reinstalled everything two times, updated software, but was still having issues. But, I specifically updated the 9.1.8 (which was supposedly included in my standard software update). Guess I needed to give it some extra attention and affection.
P.S. - Why do I feel like the more I upgrade versions of OS X, the worse off I am getting or am? Isn't it supposed to be opposite...isn't it supposed to make things better...come on, mac...where you at? mt. lion or mavericks. I'm downloading Snow Leopard to make some programs run. (um, yeah).

  • When I try to open my Address Book from Finder, it says :You can't use this version with this version of Mac OS x. I have Address Book 5.0.3 and Mac OS X 10.7.5 What should I do to get my Address Book back???

When I try to open my Address Book from Finder, it says :You can't use this version with this version of Mac OS x. I have Address Book 5.0.3 and Mac OS X 10.7.5 What should I do to get my Address Book back???

Unless you deleted Address Book 6, or restored from a backup made before you upgraded to Lion, Address Book 6 should be on your disk somewhere.  Try to find it with spotlight or by browsing likely folders with Finder.  Also check Trash. If you find other Address Books, using Quick View or Get Info in Finder should show the version number.
Have you ever moved Address Book out of the Applications folder, either before or after you upgraded to Lion?
If you can't figure out how this happened in the first place, I would be worried that other OS X utilities are similarly affected.

  • When I try to open iPhoto (9.2.1) it says 'You can't use this version of the application iPhoto with this version of OS X.  All my photos are on there.  Please help.  Thank you

When I try to open iPhoto (9.2.1) it says 'You can't use this version of the application iPhoto with this version of OS X.  All my photos are on there.  Please help.  Thank you.

Did you upgrade to a new MacOS X version? Then you need to update iPhoto as well.
Only iPhoto 9.6 is compatible with MacOS X 10.10 Yosemite.  Update from the Mac App Store.
Backup your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your current AppleID.
Check the "Updates" tab of the App Store for an iPhoto update and run the update.
When you laugh iPhoto after the update, it will warn you, that the library needs upgrading, That may take a while.
Just in case that you see a warning, that the update is not possible because of an error message: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the Applications folder, but do not empty the Trash, so you can put iPhoto back, if need be.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your current AppleID.
Open the main page "Featured" of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support to sort out the AppleID. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/
