Can I use airport time capsule with a hotspot network?
Very very poorly..
It can join a wireless network..
See instructions here.

End result is super slow wireless connection to the TC and all packets pass through the hotspot so expect internet to drop to nothing while you are backing up.

I have used Airport Time Capsule with my iMac for a couple years. I recently purchased a MacBook Air and when it tried to backup to Time Capsule it couldn't because Time Capsule is full. How can I now use the 3TB Airport Time Capsule to back up both the iMac and MacBook Air? I don't mind losing earlier backups. I have excluded some items from backing up, but since the Airport Time Capsule is full, I can't even begin to back up the MacBook Air.

    On your Mac.......
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click on the Disks tab at the top of the window
    Click Erase Disk
On the next window that appears, select the Quick Erase option, then click Erase
The operation will only take a few minutes.
Now you are ready to start new backups of both Macs.  Back up one Mac first, then back up the other.  Do not try to back up both Macs as the same time.

Look at the more like this. On the right column next to the post.
Load airport utility for windows.. which will also load bonjour for windows.
In windows explorer type \\TCname or \\TCipaddress (replacing with the actual values.. names with spaces will give you trouble so change all names in the TC to SMB compatible or actual ip address).

  • Can i use my time capsule with virgin wifi hub

can i use 2tb time capsule with virgin media wifi hub router

Yes, but it will need to connect to the Virgin router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection from one of the LAN <--> ports on the Virgin router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule.

Can I use 2 Time Capsules on the same network

Here is what I want to do. I currently have a time capsule used for one end of the house. Currently my 2 kids rooms are in an addition that I have run a cable from the time capsule to each of their rooms. If I want to give them wireless for that part of the house could I add another TC, for wireless and they can both backup their macbooks to that time capsule.
So Can I add a 2nd time capsule to extend by "N" network, or should I just go with an AP express or extreme and let them each have their own HD backup for each macbook?

Have bought many reconditioned (Refurb) product from Apple site and have always been happy with them. To date none have failed me and we have been Apple customers since 2006. With that said when you buy Refurbs make sure you know what model you are getting. The current TCs on the Apple site are last generation. The way to tell is to check the model number against the current one. Easy way to do this is to put both in the shopping cart and compare the model numbers. The Refurb model number is FB277LL/A and the new TC model is MB765LL/A. The first digits identify whether a Refurb or new, the rest should be the same if they are the same model number.
Before you buy, now which model number you want and then check other sites to compare prices. I recently purchased a new TC on Amazon for a better price then the Apple Store Site. For larger Refurb purchases like MBPs, we choose to buy directly from Apple; but for peripherals we often buy from OWC, Amazon, and other sites. Hope this helps.

  • How can I use my time capsule with Ethernet cable? How is it also possible to use time capsule as a normal external hard drive?

My problem is that I don't know how to use my Time Capsule with Ethernet Cable, as when I use wireless it is really slow.

Make sure that there is an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on your modem/wireless router to the WAN port on the Time Capsule
Click on the Wireless tab at the top of the page
Change the setting for Wireless Mode to Off (I assume that you do not want the Time Capsule to provide a wireless network since you already have a wireless network)
Next, click the Internet icon at the top of the screen, then click the Internet Connection tab
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Click the Update button at the bottom and wait 30 seconds for the Time Capsule to restart and display a green light
Then, you must power off your entire network...all devices....in any order that you want
    Wait a minute
Start your modem/router first and let it run a minute
Start the Time Capsule and let it run a minute
Keep starting devices one at a time until everything is powered up
If you are using Time Machine for backups, you will need to reset the connection because you have changed the way in which the Time Capsule connects to your network
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
    Open Time Machine
    Click Select Disk
Click the Time Capsule to highlight it
Click Use for Backup or, it might be Use Disk
Now you can connect your Mac using an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule to back up using Ethernet. Be sure to turn off the wireless on your Mac before you start the backup.
If you want to backup using wireless, disconnect the Ethernet cable from the Mac to the Time Capsule and turn on the wireless and connect to your wireless network. Your computer will now backup using wireless.

  • How to use airport time capsule with multiple computers?

I'm sure there are some thread about this but i couldn't find it... so sorry for that but hear me out! =)
I bought the AirPort Time Capsule to back up my MBP
    And so i did.
then i thought "let give this one a fresh start" so i erased all of it with the disk utility and re-installed the MBP from the recovery disk.
I dont want all of the stuff i backed up just a few files and some pictures so i brought that back.. so far so good.
Now i want to do a new back up of my MBP so i open time machine settings, pick the drive on the time capsule and then "Choose" i wait for the beck up to begin, and then it fails.  It says (sorry for my bad english, im swedish haha) "the mount /Volume/Data-1/StiflersMBP.sparsebundle is already in use for back up.
    this is what i want:
i want the "StiflersMBP.sparsebundle" to just be so i can get some stuf when i need them. it's never to be erased.
i want to make a new back up of my MBP as if it's a second computer...
so guys and girls, what is the easiest and best solution?
    Best regards!

TM does not work like that.
If you want files to use later.. do not use TM.
Or do not use TM to the same location. Plug a USB drive into the computer and use that as the target for the permanent backup.
Read some details of how TM works so you understand what it will do.

  • Using Airport Time Capsule with CenturyLink C1000Z

I just received an Apple Airport Time Capsule (3Tb) for Christmas and want to use it as our home wi-fi.  Up until now, we have been using the wi-fi which is supplied by our DSL carrier (CenturyLink) through the C1000Z router/dsl modem combo they supplied when we started service with them.
Here's how I have it set up:
    1) Wall to CenturyLink C1000Z
    2) CenturyLink C1000Z to Apple Airport Time Capsule 3Tb
    3) Apple Airport Time Capsule 3Tb to iMac (direct Ethernet connection)
I plugged everything in as described above and everything "seems" to be working.  My question is:
Do I need to configure anything special in either the Airport TimeCapsule or the CenturyLink C1000Z to make this setup work better?
When I go into the Airport Utility and select "Network" the Router Mode shows "Off (Bridge Mode)", with Network Options showing "Block incoming IPv6 connections" and "Allow incoming IPSec authentication" checked by default.  The internet tab shows connection using DHCP, with Internet Options configuring IPv6 automatically using IPv6 Native mode, with "Enable IPv6 Connection Sharing" checked.
I've read in some sites that I need to configure the CenturyLink C1000Z in a special way, or my internet speeds will be negatively affected by this setup.  Can someone please assist?  CenturyLink tech support was of absolutely no assistance in this area, even unwilling to try.  Thanks for your help--I look forward to the education!

There is nothing wrong with the setup. ADSL is never that fast.. Do the speed tests and see. Plug straight into the modem and do a speedtest.. then plug into the TC and do the test..
Is the Mac not getting full speed?
What makes you think your losing something?
No ISP can help with home network.. I can understand their reluctance to get involved.. that is the case anywhere and everywhere. Home networking can go from simple to complex in the extreme very quickly.
The most important part of this setup to your original specs is not mentioned.
I just received an Apple Airport Time Capsule (3Tb) for Christmas and want to use it as our home wi-fi.
To use it as your home wifi, it is essential that you create a wireless network in the TC.. there is no need to turn off the wifi in the Century modem router although doing so is probably a good idea if the two are sitting right next to each other.
Otherwise tell us what issues you are having.

  • Can I use my time capsule with a bad hard drive as a wireless router if I remove the hard drive?

I have a 500 GB time capsule with a failed HD (i've repalced the whole machine with a new time capsule).  I cannot get past the start up when I plug it in and the light glows a solid amber.  If I remove the hard drive can I use it as just a wireless router to exted my network?

Yes, although the existing power supply might go bad before long.. you can run the TC as just an AEBS..
It is a fairly easy job to get the hd out.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Time_Capsule
Key to it is using hot air gun or even a hair dryer on really high temp lowest fan and spend enough time getting to glue to soften.

  • Using Airport Time Capsule with an external usb hard drive - how to connect

I have 2TB Airport Time capsule which is connected to my iMac by an ethernet cable and which I use for T.Machine backups - No problems here.
I have an old MacBook Pro running 10.6.8  and which is also connected to my T/C via wi-fi - again no problems.
But I understand I can use an external hard drive via usb cable connected via a powered hub, to the T/Capsule and which I wish to do certain backups from my MBP (I have no wish to update the MBP as it runs certain apps no longer available on the iMac (10.9.2)
Now the problem I have is trying to set it up,  the MBP has Airport Utility 5.6.1 and I can’t continue as it says I need a newer version. As I see it,  the newer version doesn’t work on the MBP only  the iMac.
A catch 22 situation. If I continue and and go to “manual setup” then try  update, all I get is “correct the problem before updating”  (Allow setup over the internet using Bonjour).
Anyone have any ideas or images that I can view to try and get things going?
I should add that I wish to use my external hard drive not as a time machine backup but only for certain items using say, Super Duper, but am unable to get the disk to mount on the MBP
    Alan

I still can't use it the way I was hoping because it then becomes a T/M back-up disk and not a normal usb/firewire disc.
You are first mounting the drive on the desktop, correct?
Not sure what you mean here.
You can drag/drop files normally or copy/paste files to the drive icon on the desktop, just as you would a normal drive that is displayed on the desktop.
Or, double click the drive icon on the desktop and drag/drop files into the open window there.
Tell us the steps that you are using to mount the drive on the desktop. What happens after each step?

  • Can I use my Time Capsule with a point to point antenna?

We have a building about 400 feet away that I would like to install wireless cameras.  Can I use a point to point antenna with our time capsule or is there a better option?

The Time Capsule is too hard to get into. You can do this but the end result will be rather messy and for an expensive unit like the TC that is a waste.
Get a unit made for this job.. you only need a WAP..

  • Can I  use 2 Time Capsule with the same macbook?

I am commuting between 2 locations every 2 months
In one location I have a Time Capsule 1To working find
in the other location I want to install a second Time Capsule to have backup here.
Question is, when I will come back to the other location Macbook will recognize first Time capsule?
    Regards
    NG

I am using 2 TCs with my MBP. As far as I've been able to figure out, the macbook will not automatically detect and switch between time capsules. I manually switch backup location using the "change disk" in Time Machine Preferences.
I have no problems, but I am using one at work and one at home, so I am doing daily backups to each TC. I would guess that backups separated by 2 month intervals would take almost as much time as your initial backup depending on how many files have changed.
Also, you may want to check into accessing the TCs over the internet so you'd have access to the backups at the other locations. Maybe another app would be better since you don't have daily access to both TCs.

  • Can I use airport time capsule 2tb the same way as an external hard drive

I would like to know if I can use it as I would an external hard drive by dragging certain files or folders over to my Mac computer and not just as a backing up device. Where as I would only be able to completely add all files and folders without a choice of particular ones. Can anyone please help me. I would like to purchase it but don't know if I should just go with a simpler external hard drive. I do like the features of the airport but  I have noticed a few reviews of people claiming they were not able to select one folder to add or remove. Thanks for the help!

    Yes.

  • Airport time capsule with a mac mini

so can i use airport time capsule with a mac mini

What do you want to do with it??
The TC is designed as a network target for TM on any Mac computer.. so of course it will work with a mini.
It is also a standard wireless router for a network.. that will work on any network client device..
It is NOT designed as a NAS.. ie network storage.. I recommend people not use it for that purpose. But people can do stuff that I don't recommend.
Good luck when the TC dies and their files are all lost.
Did you want to do something different to the norm??
