Can I use an alias to trick an application about the location of a support folder?

OS X Server makes extensive use of alias files and folders, which evidently allows the storage of library folders and data on a drive other than the OS X drive.
I would like to store the data for a similar program, Daylite Sever (also evidently using PostgreSQL), on a drive other than my OS X drive. To this end, I've tried creating an alias folder in the location where Daylite Server stores its "database" file, /Library/Application Data, but Daylite Server was not fooled. So, I was able to accurately reproduce the ACLs using chown and chmod. Daylite Server was still not fooled into following the alias to another volume. Note that the ACLs listed "_dayliteserver" as the owner, and I was unable to add this user through the "Get Info" GUI. I simply typed it into terminal using the chown command, and OS X seemed to accept it.
Is it that some applciations just do not tolerate aliases? Must an application be preped to accept an alias instead of the folder it is looking for? Is there something other than the ACLs that I need to change to convince Daylite to follow the alias to a separate volume?
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide!

Using the symlink almost worked. After creating the symlink, the app not longer fails on launch. Now, it simply hangs. The error I'm getting is "com.marketcircle.daylite.accessd caused server to be off with error: (null)". So, I think it is now a permissions issue.
I know that I can change ACLs, and I've tried to do that on the symlink file I created using chmod and chown. I think I have the ACLs correctly, but I think there is another kind of permissions or access controls I need to adjust. Does any know what they are and how to adjust them?

  • How can one use one specific security realm per application ? The realm-name attribute of the login-config tag of web.xml does not make any difference

    Hi,
I have different sets of users coming from different databases and using different
roles mapping for each of my web applications. I would like to configure a specific
security realm per application in my weblogic server 7.0 . Is it possible ?
I try to specify the realm-name of the login-config tag from the web-xml deployement
descriptor but it doesn't make any difference. The default realm is always used.
I also would like to tell the Weblogic server to use the default realm in case
the realm isn't specified or isn't found. For example, the default would contains
    my admin users.
Thanks a lot for your answer.
    Iz

I thik this is a common mistake the ralm-name tag in the deployment descriptor is used
just by the browser for display purposes (when it opens the basic auth dialog box) so as
of now there is only 1 active realm which can have multiple providers as Kevin pointed
    out
    Kevin Lewis wrote:
WebLogic 7 now ignores the realm-name tag (I found that out yesterday).
My understanding is that there is only one realm active at a time for a domain
(I would be interested in being contradicted in this).
However, you can have multiple providers in each category of a realm: authentication,
authorization, etc. Therefore, what you can do is key authentication, et al,
off of some other information. We have our users enter their company, for example,
and use the TextInputCallback to get it. You could also encode something in the
initial page, based on the URL they hit, or whatever, and get that back in your
    callback.
You can store that information in your own Principal implementation, and key off
of that in your authorization provider, going to a different database as appropriate,
or abstaining when a specific provider doesn’t have anything to say about a subject.
Anyway, there should be a way to do it, even if it's more complex than you would
    have hoped.

  • Can I use JDOM to parse if I just put the class into a servlet folder witho

    Dear ALL,
I am using JDOM to do some parsing of my XML.
I can compile it on my own machine since I installed JDOM.
But I have to put all my files in a servelt folder at my college which hasn't got J-DOM installed.
I placed the jar file into it, and the class which I compiled on my machine but It doesn't work.
Can someome pls telll me how I can get it to work on the machine at college?
Is downloading JDOM-beta7 the only way?
    Many Thanks

Typically the servlets directory will be in the webserver's classpath. This being the case, any class in that directory will be in the classpath. When classes that are in packages (such as org.jdom.*) and they are not in a jar file, they will be contained in a directory structure reflecting the structure of the package. For example, the class org.jdom.Attribute would have a path like /servlets/org/jdom/Attribute.class (if it were in the servlets directory on a Unix machine).
SO, to get to the point, if you unjar the jdom jar file, and put the resulting directory structure in the servlets directory, then your servlets should be able to get to those classes. That is how I would do/try it if I were in your situation.
Winzip can unjar jar files... and there are utilities provided with the JDK. Let me know if you need more help!

I want to use PayPal for personal fundraising.  I live in a VERY small town and would prefer to use an alias, but I do not have a "Doing Business As" registered in the alias.  I am financially in need because I became unemployed (but I am seeking work!).  I want a way I can solicit donations online through a weblog.  My problem is I would prefer to use a pseudonym because I live in an extremely small town and do not want local people defaming me and my family. Is there a way I can legally use an alias on PayPal without having a "Doing Business As" registered with the pseudonym and Tax ID?

OBVIOUSLY, I did not understand the nature of your "PayPal".  Years ago I had friends who used stage names to raise money for their band with PayPal.  OBVIOUSLY, It is connected to my bank account!  I tried to e-mail AND call the toll-free number, but I did not understand how to send a SPECIFIC type-written message to answer my question.YOU did not have to give me such a snarky message back.  OBVIOUSLY you are having a bad day, too!I want nothing to do with PayPal and I am deleting my account.I have heard a lot of bad things about PayPal since I began asking questions.  A lot of unhappy customers.**bleep** this!

As long as the profiles are different (ex. HID vs AD2P) you will not have any issues. But say if you try to use 2 keyboards at once, it won't work. Or 2 headsets at once. Your scenario seems fine.

  • HT1660 how can I use one single library for all users on the same laptop?

how can I use one single library for all users on the same laptop?

You are most of the way there. Each user having access to hard drive is the key. If users are limited in file privileges this is harder.
Any files you add to your library and any files she adds to her library are available to the other. Just not automatically. Each user must add the files to their own library using the add file or add folder option from menu bar.
What I have done is set library location to a location outside of My Documents\My Music. On my network storage I have a folder names s:\itunes. Both accounts iTunes are set to use this location for the library.

Can I use my 2TB WD My Book Essential for the Time Machine feature on the MacBook as well as to store information from two other Windows computers (one running 7 and one with Vista)?

Yes you can but you need to partition the drive into at least 2 separate drives.
To do that you need to use a Windows PC to do the first partitioning. Say you split the drive into two partitions each 1TB (or close to 1TB) each.
Partition fand format both partitions on a Win PC as one NTFS and the other FAT32.
Then move it to the Mac and Reformat the FAT32 partition Mac Extended (Journaled) with a GUID Partition Table.
I have that same drive and that is what I did originally with it. I now have it just for the Mac as I have other externals for the Win systems.
    Good Luck.

Try resetting your phone, hold the home and sleep/wake button down until the apple symbol comes up, then release. If that doesnt work, you may have damaged your phone and need to take it to an apple genius bar.

How can I use guest network when my internal server provides the DNS? The help article TS4505 tells me to enter an external DNS server, but I believe I can not configure my network that way...

Apple assumes that you will be connecting the Time Capsule to a simple modem....and.....that the Time Capsule is configured as a router to provide DHCP and NAT services for the network.
The Guest Network cannot be enabled correctly unless the Time Capsule is in charge of DHCP and NAT services on the network.
Another way of saying the same thing is that the Guest Network will not operate correctly if the  Time Capsule is configured in Bridge Mode or DHCP Only.

  • How can WLS use JSP pages in a Web Application witth just a JRE [Web Application, WAR, JSP, weblogic.jsp.pageCheckSeconds and JRE]

How can WLS use JSP pages in a Web Application (either a .war file or a war directory structure) without a java compiler?
I suspect either the JSP specification is flawed (i.e. it doesn't take account of servers using just a JRE), or BEA's implementation is broken.
Production servers do not have a JDK installed. They only have a JRE. Therfore a java compiler is not present on the machine that the Web Application is deployed onto.
On the development machine, when the server is requested to load the JSP it creates a tmpwar directory within the Web Application directory structure. This is then included in the resultant .war file thus:
              D:\war>jar -tf gmi.war
              META-INF/
              META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
              gmiService.jsp
              WEB-INF/
              WEB-INF/classes/
              WEB-INF/classes/com/
              WEB-INF/classes/com/bt/
              WEB-INF/classes/com/bt/gmi/
              WEB-INF/classes/com/bt/gmi/gmiService.class
              WEB-INF/getList.xsl
              WEB-INF/getListByConnection.xsl
              WEB-INF/getListByDistrict.xsl
              WEB-INF/getListByDistrictConnection.xsl
              WEB-INF/lib/
              WEB-INF/source/
              WEB-INF/source/build.bat
              WEB-INF/source/gmiService.java
              WEB-INF/web.xml
              WEB-INF/weblogic.xml
              tmpwar/
              tmpwar/jsp_servlet/
              tmpwar/jsp_servlet/_gmiservice.class
              tmpwar/jsp_servlet/_gmiservice.java
When deployed on the production server with the web.xml file set to use the following values (note XML stripped):
              weblogic.jsp.pageCheckSeconds
              -1
              weblogic.jsp.precompile
              false
              weblogic.jsp.compileCommand
              javac
              weblogic.jsp.verbose
              true
              weblogic.jsp.packagePrefix
              jsp_servlet
              weblogic.jsp.keepgenerated
              false
              And in the weblogic.properties file:
              weblogic.httpd.webApp.gmi=war/gmi
I've also tried with the .war file, but that insists on creating another tmpwar directory outside of the .war file.
Then, although I have set pageCheckSeconds to -1 (don't check and don't recompile) ter production server still attempts to recompile the JSP's:

The default Java compiler from sun lives in the tools.jar that comes with
the JDK. Just add that to your set of JARs which are deployed in production
and you should be fine. No need to install the full JDK - just make the
              tools.jar available to WebLogic.
