My dad use to have an iphone 3g then he recently decide to get an iphone 4gs. He decided to give me his old iphone as an ipod dut i dont wanna have to carry around an iphone along with my phone, and he doesnt wanna pay for the data plan(3g part). Do you need to have the data plan for AT&T in order to use it as a phone??

yes you do. AT&T recognizes the phone as an iPhone on it's network. If you haven't signed up for a data plan, they'll make you get one.

If you bought it unlocked and not under contract for full price at an Apple Store and then got a microSIM from Rogers you can swap the microSIM and use one from the US. If it was under contract, subsidized and not unlocked, then no.
Look at your receipt and it will tell you if it is unlocked.

And take a backup while Firefox is down all of your profiles before hand to an external drive and store offline. It's easy once you've created and used different profiles once. You on a Mac so I can't provide details but you want to backup
starting with the folder above the one your profile is in. You can find the profile
you are by typing about:support into the location bar, then click on button "Open Containing Folder" that is your profile but since you will be having multiple profile go up one more director above that and backup that folder.
Whether you know what do with the backup now is not as important as having them.

I have brought the Virgin Media super hub back to the manufacturing original configuration then changed the user name and password. Only my iphone was connected. Then I've switched to 5 Ghz = 30Mbpm BANG!; went back to 2.4Ghz=dead. Now is getting worst. At the beginning it was picking at least 2Mbpm. Then 1. Then 0.something. Now it doesn't even connect. I'm pretty sure the iphone 5 must have 2 antennas and the one that uses 2.4Ghz is just gone.
Any advice?

When you perform a restore from one backup, the device is first wiped. So you can't mash together two backups using restore.

Brightspot does not appear to be an authorized iPhone carrier - at least they're not listed in Apple's official list:

IPhone 3GS - Can I use existing US t-mobile SIM and German O2 SIM cards (for phone calls) without buying a data plan?

I currently use 2 phones to make calls: one t-mobile locked phone for the US and one O2 locked phone for Germany, both without data plan.
Can I upgrade using just one phone (factory unlocked iPhone 3GS) and continue to use the existing SIM cards for phone calls (just switching the SIM cards when necessary), but use free WIFI spots worldwide for internet access/data transfer?

No supported carrier, including T-Mobile in the U.S., permits the use of an iPhone without a data plan. Though it's technically possible to do it, if and when they find you, they will either charge you for a data plan or shut down your account.
