Can I use an iq504 as a monitor?

I have an old TouchSmart IQ504 running Vista.  Is there any way I can connect a laptop to it and use the touchsmart as a monitor?  My wife needs to connect her work laptop to a larger monitor and I would rather not have both sitting on the desk.

Mark,
Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart IQ504 desktop computer. According to the specs, no video input jack is listed. Sorry, but you can't use your Iq504 as a monitor.

Without any knowledge of the year machines you have it's impossible to answer that question. iMacs adn MBA's have been around for many years now so we have no idea of the exact specs your machine have. Remember when posting you need to be complete and paint a picture for us as we aren't there to look for ourselves. Your question should be  posted something like:
" I have a 2011 27" iMac and a 2009 MacBook Air, can I use the iMac as an external display for my MacBook Air?"
BTW what you are referring to is called Target Display Mode. Apple does support that on some 2009-2011 iMacs. You can find additional information at:

  • How can one use Mission Control with two monitors?  Please bring Spaces back

How can one use Mission Control with two monitors.  With Spaces I could treat each space as a single desktop.
    SyBB

I use two monitors at work and have no issue. I have my mail set to use Desktop 1 and iTunes set to the second monitor of Desktop 1. I have browsers set to Desktop 2 and Fusion and RDC set to Desktop 3.
Two things that may help you. In System Preferences > Mission Control, disable the setting "Automatically rearrange spaces...". This screwed with assigning applications to certain spaces. And the other thing is don't use full screen on apps that support it. This just makes your second monitor superfluous.

  • Can I use two HP Pavillion 23bw monitors with my MBP with Retina Display?

Can I use two HP Pavillion 23bw monitors with my MBP with Retina Display with good video quality? I just purchased them and am already reading about issues with non-Apple External Monitors being used with MBP with Retina.  Plus I just assumed it given the power of the video card, but I can turn off the display to my MBP and extend the two HP monitors correct? I do realize they won't have the picture quality of the retina display but I would hope they look reasonable with 1080p

This is an update on the question about the use of the Dell P2415Q 4K monitor with MacBook Pro 13" and 15" w/ Nvidia graphics card installed. The monitor works very well with both systems and is automatically identified when connected. The 13" machine with Iris Graphics defaults to 2560 x 1440 at 60hz. This was very workable, matching the Apple Thunderbolt Display for resolution. I was not able to set the display for full 4K at 3840 x 2160, even at 30hz. Just not enough horsepower with the basic Intel CPU with Iris Graphics. But make no mistake, the setup works well and the screen looks great.
The 15" with Iris Pro Graphics and the Nvidia GeForce GT 575M discrete graphics card also recognized the display and drove it at full 4K, 3840 x 2160, 60hz with no problems. Running in clamshell mode required a bit of fine tuning with the Apple display settings. But nothing major.
Due to a relatively small workstation, I selected the 24" version of the Dell monitor. If you are looking for a relatively large monitor with near "retina" resolution, the P2415Q is a perfect pairing for the MacBook Pro - and a terrific bargain. I paid $530 on the Dell website.

Can I use my iMac as a monitor for a PC? If  yes, how?

That is called Target Display Mode and you are lucky it's supported in the late 2009 & 2010 27" iMacs. Apple had directions in:

  • Can I use an LCD tv to monitor?

Just wondering, with such a high proportion of the public now viewing TV on flat screen TV's, can I use one as a cost effective monitor to check how my projects view once exported (aspect ratio's etc) as I cannot at this time afford an expensive Broadcast CRT monitor? I realise that LCDs all vary regarding the way the colours look, but if it looks oK on say a £500 Sony LCD, would this not be acceptable for other LCD's.
I am many talking of Corporate work and DVD's for a small niche market.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

would it be worth paying a bit more to get a decent quality HD lcd ( Sony Bravia for example)?
It depends on what you want the screen to do. Here's why.
    • "Higher quality" consumer TVs are loaded with sophisticated circuitry intended to take substandard signals and make them look "better".
    • Broadcast quality monitors are designed to show you EXACTLY the information contained in the signal.
So, if you are using the screen to impress clients, sure. If you are using the screen to gauge your work, no.
Most consumer HD TVs can be connected via HDMI these days. You'll need something like the Blackmagic Intensity or Intensity Pro card to feed the signal.
    good luck.

  • Can i use my imac as a monitor

I have an old imac SE dvd model circa 2001. Can i use it as a monitor with a mac mini

In theory and in a way yes, using Firewire Target Disk Mode (FWTDM) on the Mac mini and use that as your startup drive on a compatible iMac(check the link).
You would need a keyboard to start the Mac mini off in FWTDM and you would still be using the iMac specs, so it would still be your iMac's CPU and memory!
So the actual answer is in fact no as you would only be using the Mac mini's HDD and not much else.

  • I plan to purchase a Mac mini and then a new iPad.  Can I use the iPad as a monitor and keyboard for the Mac mini, either through the USB connection or thru Wi-Fi?

I plan to purchase a Mac mini and then a new iPad.  Can I use the iPad as a keyboard and screen for the Mac mini, using either the USB connector or Wi-Fi?

I'm sorry, I should have said thru Bluetooth, not Wi-Fi.  I want to use the mini as a base station and the iPad like a laptop that I can sync when I'm home and carry with me when I travel.  Is is possible to hook these 2 up - iPad/mini, through Bluetooth?  I understand I need to use a regular monitor/keyboard/mouse on the initial install.

  • Question about Duet.  Can I use my Mesa Roadster as monitors

...to amplify my Amp Designer sounds? If so, would I connect a 1/4" cable from the 1/4" outputs on the Duet to the input of the Roadster? Can this in any way put my amp or interface or computer in danger?
Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

So, there definitely is the possibility of me screwing up my amp then, no? If that is the case, then I think I will stick with headphones until I can afford good monitors.
So you're intending to use the amp as a monitor speaker for recording and mixing, rather than for re-amping already-recorded guitar sounds through a real amp?
    In a word: Forget it.
    Technically possible, but completely useless.
The whole point of having speakers hooked up to your recording platform of choice is to get an idea of what you're recording/mixing.
The whole point of a guitar amp is to DELIBERATELY mutilate/color/filter/distort the incoming signal, as the amp is a vital part of what creates the guitar sound.
Even the best guitar amps will be useless as monitors, as that goes absolutely contrary to what they are fundamentally designed to do.
Hook the computer up to the home stereo if you have nothing else; working with speakers, even if they're hi-fi speakers, is a good break from wearing headphones all the time, and it gives you a different view of what you're doing.

  • Can I use my iPad as video monitor with my Canon 5D II?

    HI,
All is in the title. I'd like to use my iPad as video monitor for my Canon 5D II.
(I don't want to use Wireless system)
Maybe a solution with HDMI adaptator and an app? (I guess if we have HDMI video out, we can also have video in... just a software stuff...)
I know a lot of peoples really want to use their iPad like this (and by the way, don't have to buy a new external monitor for Their DSLR)
    Thanks by advance,
    NBS

Right now, there is no way to do that real time.   Sooner or later somebody will write the app for that, but now, there is no way.  You can certainly xfer pics and videos from the camera to watch, but that is as far as it goes.
