Can I use any monitor with the new Mac mini?
Most all monitors should work. You may need a cable adaptor if the monitor doesn't have mini-DisplayPorts but you can purchase those from Apple Store Online.

Got the "apple firewire ntsc" choice to show up even if grayed out and "missing" under "audio/visual" menus by recreating choices in Easy Setup under "final cut pro" MENU thank GOODNESS because I was reading horror stories on here about this under another thread with someone trashing preferences, reinstalling and the works and still not getting it to show up...on my search now for an analog/digital converter up at b&h...find it odd that the s video connector wouldn't show the crt monitor when I put both displays through the 3870...I switched it back to see if it worked again when only the one dell monitor display was there and there it is again mirroring the screen display on my desktop...just can't be seen as an "external monitor" in fcp...couldn't find anything specific in the shane ross threads to this. I'm sad the program doesn't just see the s video connection though the 3870 though my computer does fine and will query up at b&h in regard to what might be affordable as far as a digital/analog converter. It's also weird in itself that when I put the two dell monitors on the one card my computer no longer could see the s video crt connection...makes no sense. Will report in later as to what I discover up at b&h as I'm sure there's a world of people out there using this sony crt monitor still even into the upgrades with computers and software so I imagine therein lies the solution. Thanks again and I'll report in as to what hardware might be suggested for me.

How can I connect HDTV and LCD monitor to PC using both -as a double monitor.
I recently purchased HP Pavilion PC a6600f with HP w1707 monitor. I also purchased a DVI to HDMI cable to hook PC to Samsung HDTV. I can use the VGA cable to hook to the monitor and the DVI to HDMI cable to hook to the HDTV but have to unplug one to use the other. Is there any way to configure Windows Vista Home Premium to show on both screens at same time or at least be able to switch between the two without having to unplug one and restart computer?

View Solution.I believe you have to press Source or the Mode button to switch between video inputs on your monitor.

When I have video clips on my timeline, they do not play in the monitor screen. I hear the sound track but can not see the image. To test if my new files are somehow the problem, I went back and used video files that I used successfully a year ago, and they no longer play in the monitor window. I hear the sound track, but do not see any video. Have I changed some setting that controls video playback in the monitor window?

Missing in this equation were the version of Premiere Elements that you were using and the computer operating system on which it was running. But...
The deed is done. But.....Until now and after you went ahead and moved to version 12, we now learn what version of Premiere Elements you were using. We still do not know the computer operating system involved.
You just said Premiere Elements 10. Premiere Elements 10 is hit by a serious known display issue if the computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card. In this issue, the only remedy is to roll back the driver version to about May 2013. The description of the problem and how to do the roll back are described in one of the Announcements at the top of this forum. What video card/graphics card does your computer use?
On another front, Adobe will be releasing a new version of Premiere Elements any day now. No one but Adobe knows the feature set for the new version. That type of information is announced at the moment of release of the new version.
So the remedy to the problem that you presented in this thread could have been...
1. Rolling back the NVIDIA GeForce driver version to about May 2013 if possible (Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, may not be possible)
2. Move to another version of Premiere Elements (which you did)
I offer the above for consideration so that you can review your decisions. We are pleased to learn that Premiere Elements 12/12.1 works for you.

Why do you want to use LDAP for Hard disk monitoring..???
U can do this by creating a MD5 checksum for all the files existing in some
perticular
directory and every hour or any configurable period u can recalculate the
checksum
to find out the change in the content.
I guess all u need is to get the code for "updatedb" utility of Linux and
instrument it for ur needs..

IMAC 24" screen went dead. Can I buy a mac compatible monitor and still use the IMAC hard drive - which is still working? I took it to the Apple store and they quoted $500+to replace the monitor. No help as usual. Can I buy a MAC compatible monitor ($189) and use it as a primary monitor? Can I set it up if the screen on the IMAC is dead? Any other solutions?
The only negative to not having the original drive will be the work needed to reinstall all the apps and reconfigure to your liking. You will also have to decide whether to stay on Lion (which you should update to 10.7.4, BTW) or bite the bullet and take a leap of faith on Mountain Lion.
In either case, to simplify matters you would do well to concoct a Lion or ML bootable installer on a USB stick. In either case, you need to get the corresponding installer downloaded onto the hard drive and, instead of running it to execute the install, extract the coveted InstallESD.dmg image from which you construct the bootable installer. I've seen all the posts for fixing the wifi on the 4s, none of them work! So, who can tell me why my iPhone 4S cannot find any wifi when it used to find wifi, and when it does find a wifi network it can never connect? You think apple would have a clue how to fix it! Because turning the wifi on and off doesn't work, resorting network settings doesn't work, even restoring phone to factory default doesn't work...

the TV: LG Smart tvThe Mac uses a highly-parameterized universal Driver for every display. The parameters are set at certain times when a query is sent to your display. The display MUST answer with its name and capabilities, or the screen stays dark. A TV set that is off or "not paying attention" because it is set to a different port when the query occurs will rarely answer, and so will often remain dark.
You can use tools in the System Report to see whether your display has been detected at all. If it has, the report will look something like this, but its name will appear:

• at Startup
• at wake from sleep
• when the Mac-end of the cable is inserted
• when using the Option ( Detect Displays ) button in displays preferences -

I've just cracked the screen on my macbook pro and want to know if it's possible that i could use my 23" apple cinema display as the primary screen, so that when I load up my dock etc will appear on the external monitor rather than the laptop monitor.

Click on system preferences, and choose displays.
From here, click on arrangement, and you can choose to have the dock on your external display.
If you don't see the "arrangement" option, be sure you have an external keyboard or mouse attached to the computer, and close its display lid. The computer should go to sleep. After it's asleep, wake it, using the attached mouse or keyboard, but keep the lid closed. The external display should illuminate with your desktop. -
Can I use a Mac mini with a VGA monitor?
The Mac mini web page lists an Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter as an accessory, but the Mac mini doesn't appear to have a Mini DisplayPort.
The Mac mini also has an HDMI to DVI Adapter included, but would this allow a VGA monitor to be connected via an additional DVI to VGA cable? ie. can the HDMI port provide an analogue signal that a VGA monitor can receive?Some Mac Minis do have mini-DisplayPorts. In these two it is between the HDMI and the USB ports:

In this one it is between the Mini-DVI and the USB ports:
Only the oldest Intel models would you need a different adapter to VGA
Those you would need a DVI to VGA adapter from Apple such as this one. Note, DVI to VGA is converting digital to analog, and not very useful, unless your TV has neither DVI nor HDMI. DVI is much better converted up to HDMI. And the audio would have to come in separately. So depending on your display model and make, you may be asking for the wrong adapter. VGA is fine if all you are going to do is view DVDs on an old TV. But if you want the ability to use the Dock, menubar, etc..., it is good to have a 1080p TV with built-in HDMI or better. -

It's almost impossible. The new iMacs have a Target Display Mode, but it's built to do that. Without ripping your screen out, finding an acceptable power supply, frame, and whatever electronics to convert a Thunderbolt signal to the screen, the cost will be much larger than buying a cheaper HiDef monitor that runs with an HDMI to Thunderbolt cable to your MacBook 15. In fact, you can sell your 17" MBP for a lot of money, unless it's broken or something, buying you a really sweet monitor.

Can I use my iMac 2009 as an external monitor for a MacBook Pro
I will soon be getting a new MacBook Pro with Retina display. It has an HDMI port.
My current iMac 21.5" late 2009 model seems to have a port with what looks like a little monitor symbol, next to the firewire port. And the specs say:

ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR3 memory

Does this mean that port is just for video output to an external monitor? Or is is possible to also do video in?
On the one hand it feels like a waste to use a perfectly good iMac as a monitor. But the MacBook Pro actually has better specs, and so I was wondering if it is possible anyway.

For example, you mention something that can be done, with some hurdles to go through, for 27" iMacs. Mine is a 21.5" iMac, but seems to have the same port you mentioned in the article. Or maybe it isn't. Anyway, I'm still not sure if it is possible after reading that. Interesting information though.

I prepare chronologies in word, and I am trying to do the same in pages using tables and cells. But sometimes I need a cell to wrap onto the next page because the contents are bigger than the page or the space left on the page, but I can't work out how to do it - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

If you forgot your encryption password:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.
