Can I use BTWiFi-with-FON free of charge while wai...

Hi,
I am currently with TalkTalk but looking to come to BT because of the woeful service I got from them and I have a question I need answered before I make the switch.
When I go to process my order my earliest date for an engineer to come to my home is around 4 weeks from now which means I won't have internet access during that time, but I noticed today I am in a BTWiFi-with-FON hotspot which is universally free for all BT members (I believe). Would I be able to benefit from this service as soon as I make my order? And not have to wait for an engineer to come out before I have any internet access at all?
Surely when I click confirm and I have a username and password I am considered a member and should have access to use these hotspots like any other ordinary member...?
I tried calling your customer service lines but they had no clue what I was talking about so figured I would try here.
Thanks.

I doubt that BT would be swayed by that. This is what the residential broadband T&C say:

  • BTWiFi-with-FON Slow/Not Working

I've been paying to use BTWiFi-with-Fon for the past month now and sometimes I don't mind paying as I get quick connection but a lot of the time I won't even be able to connect or the connection is seriously slow. I don't have a hub in my house or anything I pick up a strong signal near by. I was wondering if anyone knows what the problem is and if there is anything I can do about it?
Thanks for any help you can give, Michael

if you are picking up the btwifi from someone else's hub then it may be that they are downloading/uploading and will have preference to you and could max out their connection speed leaving you with a disconnection
if that is the case then there is nothing you can do about it as hub owner has priority

I bought a used macbook air, with reinstalled the OS without iMovie. How can I get iMovie on App free of charge as a default in macbook air ?

Unfortunately, as recommended by the lady from CA, as long as the Mac is still associated with the Apple ID of the original owner, you can't even buy those iLife apps with that Mac. You will always get the alert to download them with the original owner's Apple ID.
As suggested by the chavo from España, you need the original owner to contact Apple Care* and request that the OS and the iLife apps be disassociated from his Apple ID. Then you should be free to OS X Recovery to resinstall the most recent version of OS X that shipped with the Mac and install the iLife apps. Afterward, before using any of the iLife apps you need to open the Mac App Store (MAS) to the Purchases pane and Accept these apps into your MAS account's Apple ID. If you use any of the iLife apps before you have accepted them into your account, as per the app's Terms of Use, they all become one-trick-ponies that can not be downloaded onto another Mac or updated.

*If you bought the Mac from a 2nd hand shop and don't have access to the original owner, you may need to provide Apple a purchase receipt to offer proof of sale.

  • Can I use T-Mobile contract free with another operator in another country?

Can I use T-Mobile contract free with another operator in another country?

No. You need an officially unlocked iPhone. Contract free DOES NOT equal officially unlocked. All contract free means is that you are not obligated to a contract, nothing more.
In the US, only Apple sells officially unlocked iPhones.

Your understanding is a bit out of date. Verizon is a CDMA/LTE carrier. All Verizon phones that work on the 4G LTE network, which would exclude all but the most basic of phones, use SIM cards. All Verizon iPhones since the 4S have a SIM slot (though the one on the 4S was only used for global roaming).

Keep the phone's Wifi switched off until you actively want to use it. That will probably save on battery usage as well.
Thanks for the idea, but unfortunately that would not help as I use it on the WiFi at home quite a lot, especially when I have the PC switched off.
Sorry, I got the wrong end of the stick. You need to set the phone to prioritise wifi connections, but I don't know the procedure for iPhone as I have Android. You could try simply deleting BT WiFi from the list of connections to see if it gets a lower priority next time you connect to it.

I have two iphones, different telcos, i am using the same apple id for both - how can i use the 10GB icloud free memory of my new iphone 5?

    Thank you KiltedTim!
YES, that is the free 5GB icloud memory for each apple ID. Can I not add the free 5Gb of my second Iphone to my original apple ID (5GB also) as I want to use one Apple ID name on both 2 Iphones? Is it necessary to have a different apple ID for the second Iphone to avail the free 5GB it carries with it?

I had an online chat with a BT Broadband help person, who said she wasn't trained on Openzone and gave me a number to call, where I got a recorded message saying that the BT wi-fi network had "issues". A few hours later the problems disappeared and today everything's fine. So who knows.
Regarding Ts and Cs, if Openzone is bundled with your Total Broadband package there's no volume or time limit, you just have to log in every 30 mins if you go over 10,000 minutes in any given month.  Large files are positively encouraged: "Is there a download limit? No. Wireless broadband is perfect for uploading or downloading large files at high speed. Usage is based on time rather than data transfer amount." From https://www.btopenzone.com/help/common-questions/index.jsp#using_8  I'm downloading 50GB+ files via P2P. But perhaps the BT network sees them as lots of small files, as P2P works by chopping them into little bits.
The Openzone Fair Use policy only applies if you buy an Openzone subscription separately. In which case P2P, large files and a 3GB+ monthly volume are "inappropriate". http://www.btopenzone.com/terms-and-conditions/fair-usage-policy.jsp
DS, what did you mean by clearing the connection history? Sounds interesting. Do you mean removing the profile from the Manage Wireless Networks screen?

I will give it another couple of days and see what happens.
I suppose opting in and then out again resets any counter in the BT software.

  • HT5051 Can I use Dropbox with Pages?

Can I use Dropbox with Pages

True that gets the file into Dropbox, and yes you can use the dropbox app and open in app protocol all for free but that does mean you have to open two apps have the iPad do some manipulation with duplicate files copied.
What dropdav does is contain everything within Pages.
Your working in Pages and want to edit a document you know is in your Dropbox you simply tap on the + in the top left of the Pages document screen scroll to copy from Webdav and all your Dropbox files and folders show up right there WITHIN Pages thusly
Any compatilbe file is bold and can be opened DIRECTLY in PAGES edited and returned seemlessly with the copy to Webdav or yes the print to Dropbox (Both work)
The key is Webdav integration within Pages allows for external file transfer.

  • I ordered my Macbook Air with Aperture two years ago. I now have an iMac - can I use that with Aperture in any way?

I ordered my Macbook Air with Aperture two years ago. I now have an iMac - can I use that with Aperture in any way? I appreciate that it is a different computer but I am now the end user of both devices and I was just wondering if it was possible.
    Thanks,
    Sean

The answer would be in your software license agreement for Aperture. However if you cannot locate it you can ask in the Aperture forum, the link for that is:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/professional_applications/aperture
However I believe you can have Aperture installed on two machines however only one may be using it at a time.
On the new iMac launch the Mac App Store - Purchased - look for Aperture and download to your new machine.

  • I installed 5 but now I can't use it with Mac osx - how do I go back to my old version?!

I was prompted to install Firefox 5 on my Mac. Now when I try to open it says I can't use Firefox with osx. How do I go back to using the previous version - has it been written over? My previous version was fine!

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com
