Can I use Discoverer to do financial consolidation

Hi all,
Can anyone advise if Discoverer can be used as a financial consolidation tools. Basically we are using Oracle Apps 10.7 with 7.3 database and have mutliple instance over two servers.
We are currently using Frango, a consolidation tools, to generate our consolidated finance report but are planning to look into alternative.
Appreciate if anyone can provide advise. Besides, what about Oracle Express? It also appears to be a similar OLTP tool.
Thanks and Regards.

I think you should take a close look at OFA (Oracle Financial Analyser). This product can extract data from you Oracle applications and consolidate.

    i m using EBS 12.0.6-10gr2..can i use discoverer..if yes then how
I dont know how to use it nor do i know the basic theme behind using it
but people from industry told me that its good and i should use it for ad-hoc
    so please help me out

    Hi emm
Then you need to get hold of Discoverer before you can get this working. Compared to EBS it is not expensive. Oracle will allow you to download the software from OTN for evaluation purposes but before you can use it in a Production environment you would need to have the license.
You can download it here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/htdocs/devlic.html?url=/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101202.html
On the page, after agreeing to the licensing terms which in your case you should read before clicking that you understand them, you should scroll down to the row headed Business Intelligence. This is the application server that runs Discoverer. At the very least you will need the Tools CD under the Windows column - this is the Discoverer Admin software, plus you will need the various CDs for the platform you are using.
If you have never done this before you definitely need some help because there are a lot of steps involved in getting Discoverer up and running correctly and then interfacing it with EBS. This is not something you will be able to do by asking questions in a forum. You will need to find someone who has done it before or at least speak with your DBA who will have some experience of installing Oracle software and will have an understanding of Oracle Homes.
With regards to having it on the same server as EBS I would strongly advise against this. Discoverer is a memory hog and heavy use of it when installed onto the same server as EBS will cause no end of problems. Put it on its own server, Windows is the cheapest and perhaps easiest to install, then be done with it. This question is a little like asking should I put my eggs in one basket. Yes, you could but the real question is whether you should do it and my counsel would be stringly in the negative. You will get much better performance from Discoverer if it is on its own server.
    Best wishes

You can easily use a row formula with the Var(ref1, ref2) notation.
Please refer to the FR Studio User Guide for more info, it has a info on all the formulas available. The 931 versions are available here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/nav/portal_4.htm

    Thanks in advance

That would have to be a product enhancement. With our upcoming integration with BI Publisher and with Delivers (part of the BI Suite Enterprise Edition) we believe this requirement should be met. Please look out for more announcements and details on these functionalities.

  • Can you rig Discoverer to use custom application user logins?

This is using Discoverer 10.1.x and Oracle 10.2.x
Instead of having database user accounts, is there a way to get Discoverer to use/recognize logins created for our application which are stored in a table?
From what I've heard, 11i can do this but we're already gone forward with this structure and we really don't need all of the other things that come with that package.
I've looked around and it looks like some form of implementation of the Discoverer login trigger may be able to be used but I'm still not sure.
    Thanks.

Well let me explain as I know it - and the easiest would be to start with pre-10g.
If you were installing Disco v4.x, then - if you have Oracle Apps installed - you could create an Apps EUL. This would mean that all users would be Apps users and when you setup the gateway info correctly in Disco Admin and Disco Desktop, when you logged in as an Apps user you would get a window displayed with the Apps responsibilities you were set up with and allow you to choose one (in Disco I mean).
So, there was no requirement for an Applications Server middle layer.
Then (well after v9), Disco 10g came on the scene. The 'normal' version that you'll see pushed - and by rights it's a great product with huge improvements - is to use the full blown version that requires the Oracle iAS 10g set up as well. When you do this, all the webby versions of: Disco Plus, Disco Viewer, Oracle Reports, Oracle Forms, Portals, SSO, etc. are handled in the middle iAS layer. Reason was that Oracle was tired of having multiple servers (ie: one for Forms, one for Reports, one for Disco, etc.) having to be maintained.
So, that requirement means you HAVE to have the iAS middle layer.
However ... you can still download - and therefore I would assume, purchase - a version (and a new one like 10g) that I think does not require the iAS middle layer. That would mean you'd be running 10g Plus, Viewer, Desktop and Admin via an Apps EUL, but not going through the iAS (as the EUL is stored in the database, not in the iAS). It may be called 'developer suite' these days, but not sure as there are different names / renames going around.
You could easily use such a product, and then when you go to using the middle layer goodies / setup of iAS, then should be no problem as you're not altering the EUL at all per se, just connections.
So, with the correct version of the newest software, I believe what you want to do is entirely possible - and upgrade to the iAS addition (so you get Portals and SSO) later.
I'm sure others will comment on this, so hopefully I'm in the correct arena.

  • Can i use this view in discoverer

    Hello
I have a view like below in R12.
    GL_CODE_COMBINATIONS_KFV
In etrm there is a warning:
Oracle Corporation does not support access to Oracle
applications data using this object, except from standard Oracle Applications programs.
Can any one you please let me know if i can still use this for a custom sql report.
    thx
    kp

You can use the KFV for a custom report - just be aware that the definition of the KFV can change (via a patch) without warning, and the Support will not help if you have issues with using the KFV.

  • Can I use function "HS.NODE.METHOD" in Calc type?

Can I use this statement in "Sub Calculation"?
         IF HS.NODE.METHOD("") = "EQUITY35" THEN
         END IF
I try to use it but when I run consolidation, it's always show "aborted"
    Thanks in advance
    Refer to Administrator's Guide:
    Method
Gets the consolidation method for the specified member. If there is more than one non-zero
value, the system returns the first one found. This function can be used in these types of rules:
    l Calculation
    l Translation
    l Consolidation
    l Allocation
    Syntax
    HS.Node.Method("POVExpression")
where POVExpression is a combination of Scenario. Year, Period, and Entity members.
    Return Value
A String that specifies the consolidation method for the specified point of view.
    Example
In this example, if the method for the point of view is GLOBAL, then statements between the
If...Then and End If statements are executed.
    If HS.Node.Method("S#Actual"."Y#2009"."P#January". "E#Regional.Connecticut") = "GLOBAL"
    Then
    End If

    Hi,
Please see the below link for the rules functions.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/hfm_admin.pdf
And also the following KM IDs, might be helpful as well.
Financial Management Rule Function Hs.Node.Isbase Returns True Even When the Entity is Inactive (Doc ID 1330580.1)
Hs.Node.Method() generates "Expected Identifier" Error (Doc ID 1274123.1)
    Hope this helps,

  • Difference between Oracle Financial Consolidation Hub and Hyperion Financial Management

    Dear All,
    Greetings!
We are at a client site where the existing consolidation process is performed using the Oracle Financial Consolidation Hub (FCH)
The client is interested to migrate or utilize the power of Hyperion Financial Management (HFM) and want to utilize Hyperion going forward
    Queries:
    1. Can we integrate or migrate the Oracle FCH to HFM
    2. What are the major differences between Oracle FCH and HFM - functionally and technically?
    3. Which is more advantageous considering the growth potential, future opportunities of expansion of the company?
Any help on this query (at the earliest) is highly appreciated as we have the real scenario in hand.
    Thanks
    Swami

FCH was a product launched by Oracle to counter Hyperion Financial Management. However, it is not a proven tool. HFM has a very good market standing coupled with its other reporting capabilities. Also, HFM is a industry leader now.
Financial Consolidation Hub will be removed from the Oracle E-Business Suite Component. FCH will not be included with Release 12.1. This is why, customers are advised to move to Hyperion Financial Management.
An automatic migration utility from FCH to HFM has not been implemented. FCH customers who wish to implement Hyperion Financial Management will have to install the application and complete the implementation process manually.

  • EC-CS, BPC, BOBJ Financial Consolidation Compare

What major difference would be there between EPM solutions "BPC" and "Financial Consolidation" as far as consolidation goes? What added advantage do we get compared the original EC-CS in SAP?  How long will EC-CS can be used or supported by SAP?

ECCS is supposed to out of active maintenance around 2009. But this was the news some time back. But one customer configured for go live in ECCS this November.2009.
BOBJ concoliation will be merged with BPC landscape soon. This is pure business objects way of doing consolidation and SAP bought the BO and trying to merge it with BPC product.
BPC is the wayforward for SAP...not only they are maintaining BPC's original format of outlooksoft with minor modification, in BPC7NW release they inegrated with BI/BW. In BPC 7.5/8 NW version they are going to integrate the BO fully to BPC.
Hope this answers your questions Sridhar.

  • I'm in the trial period for Creative Cloud - I have about 19 days to go on Photoshop CC on my iMac.  Can I use the same CC trial on a second machine?  Specifically on a Windows 7 machine?

I'm in the trial period for Creative Cloud - I have about 19 days to go on Photoshop CC on my iMac.  Can I use the same CC trial on a second machine?  Specifically on a Windows 7 machine?

Nothing personal to you or Rajshee, but this is exactly why I absolutely despise these "community forums" (not just Adobe but any company).  I called the Tech Support phone line today after digging and digging for a phone number, and they told me the exact opposite, and they did it a lot faster than it was possible to get a forum response.  (That's really not personal, because you can't control that, but it's a fact.)
Their answer: As long as I'm signed in with the same ID, I can try, say, Photoshop CC on my iMac at home and also try Acrobat Pro CC on my Windows 7 machine at work.  Same account, same login, one trial.
This makes complete sense to me as I'm financially on the hook (potentially) for the same package.  If I give away my login to someone else, which I wouldn't do, I'm still on the hook.  This is why the cloud approach to software is such genius and I applaud it.
BTW, 99% of the "community forum" wrong answers come on Microsoft sites, so don't feel bad.

  • How to find out the list of users who used Discoverer

    Dear All,
We have Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10.2 with Disco. 4i.
We need to know how we can find out the Employee ID, Responsibility, Org... who used discoverer during a specific period in the past ? For example the last year.
    Any help plz.
    Regards,
    Mohammad Muhtadi

I'm not sure You can get the responsibilities or the org that was used in that specific run but as for getting when it was run and by whom...
    Try that SQL:
    select distinct
    qs.qs_doc_name workbook,
    --qs.qs_doc_details worksheet,
    case when instr(qs.qs_doc_owner,'#')=1 then substr(qs.qs_doc_owner,2,10) else qs.qs_doc_owner end workbook_owner,
    qs.qs_created_date run_date,
    case when instr(qs.qs_created_by,'#')=1 then substr(qs.qs_created_by,2,10) else qs.qs_created_by end apps_user_id,
    fu.user_name apps_user_name,
    ppf.FULL_NAME user_full_name,
    ppf.EMPLOYEE_NUMBER user_employee_number
    from
    eul_us.eul4_qpp_stats qs,
    fnd_user fu,
    per_people_f ppf
    where to_number(substr(qs.qs_created_by,2,10))=fu.user_id(+)
    and fu.employee_id=ppf.PERSON_ID
and sysdate between ppf.EFFECTIVE_START_DATE and ppf.EFFECTIVE_END_DATE
change the "eul_us" to the discoverer schema.
Basically the primary data you are looking for lies in the qpp_stats table...

Is someone know which URL to use to display correctly a financial report when opening it from a task list ?
It's an emergency, please help !
    Thanks very much.

    Hi,
OK, thanks, it almost works !!
I've just a problem. 2 tabs are opening.
One is opening correctly and displays my report. I can display it in PDF/HTML.
But another tab is opening with this message : This window can now be closed since the application has been launched in a separate window. Note: Popup blockers may prevent this application from working properly.
Do you know why this tab is opening ?

Do NOT attempt to use CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES=>GUI_DOWNLOAD.  This class and method is for use through the SAPGui and will NOT work within BSP.  This information is completely incorrect!
There are lots of existing Weblogs on this subject.  Have a look through them for solutions that do work.
