Can I use external speakers with the iPad when using Facetime? How do I do that?

They have to be either plugged in via headphone jack or the dock port at the bottom. If you can. I've used it on apple tv, but that's it. I don't know if the others work, but I don't see why not. Try plugging in speakers in the headphone jack. You will get an answer :)

Why can I no longer scroll with the mouse when using Pages?

Thanks. That's not the problem. Scrolling works in everything else except Pages. I used to be able to scroll just by using my finger up or down on the mouse. Now, I can't do that. I tried setting the scroll bars to "Always", but then I have to physically click on the scroll bar and move it up and down. Not like it's that much hassle, lol, but I got used to just scrolling with my finger on the mouse.

I can't rename film titles on the ipad when using itunes

I've updated iTunes installed ios5 on the iPad. I've synced some films but I can't seem to edit any of the info on the iPad using iTunes. For example the video is called Video_film title and I want to change it but all the fields are grayed out.
I used to be able to do this. Anyone help?
Also similarly I can't seem to sort my music on the iPad section on iTunes any other way than the default.....the sort boxes at the top don't work and clicking on a column heading doesn't work either.

Tap your ID
Tap View Apple ID
Enter your password
Go to country/region in the popup window to change the store

I've literally had a 50/50 success rate with drives. But even if you get it to work, all you'll be able to access are photos or videos that follow a very strict naming convention. You cannot access documents or music, and you cannot write anything off the iPad onto a flash drive.
If you want to access photos or videos, you'll get more reliable results with an SD card than fighting with a USB drive.

The iPad doesn't have any text over cellular capabilities. You can use apps like Text Free to send texts to non-iOS devices, though.

Can't Sync Outlook Calander with Curve 9300 when using Outlook Connector

Sorry I know there is a simple answer but I can't find it. I use Outlook 2010 with my hotmail account using hotmail connector. The calander will not sync and the message I get is "Unable to access local folders. If your Outlook profile uses Hotmail connector, you must create a local data store (PST) and set it as the default delivery location for the profile". I simply do not understand what this means and how I do it. Please help?

Using external speakers with iPad

Hey, I have the cool imac ball speakers, these:

But the plug on the speakers is a little to small. Is there an adapter that I can get that will allow me to use these speakers?

Be careful - I think I owned a set of those Apple speakers at one time, and IIRC they weren't just normal speakers, hence the special plug. You could conceivably damage the iPad or whatever else you plug them into, if I'm remembering this right.
Edit: Do a Google or whatever search for "Apple Pro Speakers" and you'll find various articles on compatibility, hacking them for a PC, etc.

I know this sounds silly, but my husband, who lives in another state right now, would really like to have an iPad rather than his laptop. I know you're supposed to sync the iPad to a computer, but, realistically, how often would that have to be done? Could we get away with doing it every couple of months? Every 6 mos?

The backup is an issue, but you can always mail your work to your self… but the mail server has to be configured the way that mails are not deleted.
The more elegant way is "MobileMe", you can use it as a storage and save your work there.
Keep in mind, the iPad is limited to what you can do with the Apps, so check first if there are some Apps for the work you need to do…

Docking an iPhone onto external speakers with the sleeve/case on

Briefly: is it possible? I have a nice "Case-mate" leather-like case for my iPhone, but I have discovered that in order to dock it onto external speakers I have to take it out of the case, which is not easy (it's a nice snug fit). Are there any docks where I don't have to take it out of the case? (Or, alternatively, are there any cases which don't interfere with docking?)

Would a battery pack that has a USB "port" instead of a "dock" connector meet your needs?
You could use the redesigned dock connection cable and plug it in to something like this:

as the connection of headphones is on the back of the iMac, it would be very useful to be able to switch between the internal speakers and the headphones, without ever having to unplug the headphones from your Mac Is this possible?

Although it still means unplugging I bought one of these though I do use headphones very infrequently:

If you decide to purchase one, be careful where you buy from as there are Belkin imitations around ie eBay and indeed Amazon where the quality is suspect particularly if it only costs a couple of £s'. Bought mine from a renowned retailer with genuine Belkin blister pack.

Is it possible to silence the external ringer on the Pre when using headphones?

When I get a call on my Pre while using the headphones, I'd like to hear the ringer in my headphones only... Currently when I get a call it rings in the headphones AND via the external speaker. Can this be done and if so how?

InDesign's pasteboard, bleed, and slug areas are independent for each document page. Running header text variables in these areas can capture sources on document pages. If you place a text frame with a character style for the layer name, and a character style for the language name, on a layer, and capture them in a character-style-based running header in the slug, for example, the source from whichever layer is visible will appear in the running header in the slug area. Similarly, you can capture other text variables for page number, filename, date/time, etc.
It may take a little fussing to set it up the first time, but thereafter when you change layer visibility, the visible layer name changes automatically.
NOTE: Text frames on master page pasteboards, bleed, or slug areas do not appear on document pages unless they also touch the document page border.
