Can I use Garage Band JamPacks with Soundtrack 1.5?

Can I buy Garage Band JamPacks and use them in Soundtrack 1.5, with full functionality? Like genres, styles, mood, etc...
The reason I ask is because the website says they work with Soundtrack Pro, but doesn't mention 1.5.
Thanks!

hey there,
yes, you can.
Browser tab >Mac HD >Library >Audio >Apple loops >Apple Loops for GarageBand, SoundTrack & iLife Sound Effects. pick one of the 3. also if you have user loops you can access them & also i think put some GB loops into Favorites tab.

  • Mac-Ignorant.  Can I use Garage Band with PC and Olympia recorder?

I have a 90 minute session I'm trying to podcast. The first thing I did was publish it on mypodcast.com. Naively I thought I could just post that URL in the podcast feed URL. I don't have a MAC. I have a PC. Is there a way (or perhaps a bunch of steps) that I can get my recorded file using Garage Band via my PC? If so then I will download it.... and then if I can use that, where can I post my recording so that I can feed it to itunes? I know a LOT of questions. I did not RECORD using an IPOD.. I recorded using an Olympia Digital Recorder. Please tell me there's a way!!!

  • Where can I purchase garage band compatible with os 10.6.8

My imac has os 10.6.8 and cannot be upgraded. Where can I purchase garage band that is compatible with os 10.6.8?

If in addition to garageband you want the full version of iDVD (if you no longer have iDVD on your Mac), then purchase iLife '09 from a source like Amazon.
In addition to GarageBand, if you do not need iDVD or, at least not the full version of iDVD, then purchase iLife '11 from Amazon.
When you install, you need to do a custom install to only install GarageBand alone, and/or install both GarageBand AND iDVD

  • I'm Just wondering how to make drum beats in garage band using the sounds it comes with? Also how can i use garage band like a drum machine which i can program an entire song part by part????

I'm new to using Garageband and loops with garage band. I just wanted to see if there was a way for me to use the drum sounds provided in garageband to create my own original drum tracks and work with it like a drum machine that i can program an entire song into... any info or tutorials would be a great help.. Thanks!!!

Ah ok, I have a better idea of what you want to do now.
Unfortunately there isn't anything inside GB that can come anywhere close to Acoustica Beatcraft, but there are two tools inside Garageband that can help you do something similar.
First are the built-in keyboards, which will enable you to trigger drum samples with your computer keyboard or mouse.  Go to Window -> Keyboard or Window -> Musical Typing.  Click with your mouse on the Keyboard or press keys on your computer keyboard with Musical Typing, and you will trigger different drum samples for whatever kit you've chosen for that software track.
Next is the Track Editor: in Piano Roll mode, you can create and see midi notes somewhat similar to the view in this screenshot from AB.  On the left side of the Editor, you will see a sideways piano keyboard.  When you assign a drum kit to a software track, each of the piano keys corresponds to a different instrument: hi hat, snare, bass drum, etc---you'll have to play them using the on-screen keyboard or musical typing to see what they correspond to.   In order to add a MIDI note you hold the CMD button and click with the mouse.
So, if you wanted to add a closed hi-hat hit, you would CMD-click on the Track Editor row corresponding to the closed hi-hat piano key, and then you can drag the MIDI note left & right to change the beat it plays on, or resize the note, which will change its duration.
Or, as you've already observed, you can use Musical Typing to play out a pattern on your computer keyboard while recording, and you will see the midi notes appear in real time in the Track Editor.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions.

  • How can I use Garage Band for ringtones? I dont get it

I fairly new to the apple world. I want to use a song from a CD in my iTunes library in Garage Band then crop it and everything to make a ringtone for my iPhone. Is this possible?

On you MacBook go to Garageband and go to the bottom right to find you iTunes music. Find a song and drag it to the editing section find the part you want to have as a ringtone (it must be 40 seconds or under). Go to Share at the menu at the top of the screen, click share "Ringtone" with iTunes and it should ask you to adjust. Their will be a little green line in the window near the top adjust the green slider to be as long or a bit longer than the ringtone and click again share then send ringtone to iTunes. Then when you plug in your iPhone go to the Ringtones tab and specify wether you want to sync all or select ringtones to your iPhone.

Try to update them, running software update.
If they don't work you will need to buy iLife '11(OLD VERSION) to work with 10.6.8 from Amazon.
As seventy one mentions, run the update to 10.6.8 before trying to update iLife, there are updates that will need to loaded, if I remember correctly, there are GB updates, as well as  iPhoto updates. keeep running software update till there is nothing left to update.
Hey seventy one, looks like they are'nt mesing with you today:-)
Your post popped up just before I hit apply.

  • Use garage band sounds in other applications?

I've never had any need to use Garage Band, but have heard that the sounds are good... is there a way to use Garage Band sounds with a DAW, specifically, Digital Performer?
    Thanks

What do you men with sounds?
    Apple Loops
Apple Loops are just aiff file with additional metadata. You can even play them in iTunes. However I heard that DP can utilize the Tempo Match and Key Match feature.
    Plugins
GarageBand support two Plugin standards. AU Plugins and Logic-Plugins. GarageBand doesn't come with any AU-Plugins only Logic Plugins but DP doesnt support them, they are an Apple proprietary format.
    Drummer
The drummer is nothing other than a sophisticated EXS24 Sampler (a Logic Plugin), therfore no support in DP. If you have a lot of time on your hand, you can access the individual audio samples and build your own sampler that can be used in DP.
    Settings
All the other sound settings are just settings files that are only compatible inside the Apple ecosystem of audio apps (GarageBand, Logic, MainStage)
This ecosystem comes in handy when moving between those apps. Now you can create sounds and settings in Logic and use them in GarageBand or MainStage. Here is screenshot from my new GarageBand book "GarageBand X - How it Works" that illustrates that ecosystem
    Hope that helps

Simple. GarageBand question, GarageBand forum where all those users are jacked into their Macs and can tell you how. Also look to the right of your post to the column, "More Like This."---------------------------------------------->

How do I upgrade the ram?
The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.
    Crucial
    Other World Computing
Do a backup, preferably 2 separate ones on 2 separate drives.
Revert to a Previous OS X - Yosemite
    Revert to Snow Leopard
If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.

  • Need to rescue Garage Band Files with Data Rescue II - what kind of files?

    Hi all -
After a particularly gruesome computer crash, I am trying to reconstruct my lost files using Data Rescue II..... This program goes into the damaged hard drive and downloads all intact files it can find, but it is NOT able to label everything correctly. All it can do is divide things into folders - Audio files, document files, images, mail, misc., and movies. And within these folders are other folders - for instance, in the "Audio" rescued folder, there are hundreds of AIFF files, AIFF1 files, AIFF2, MP3, WAV, m4a, and m4p files.
My question is: can someone please tell me what the heck a Garage Band project file is? That would save me a lot of time in digging through all this material trying to find one....
(Don't get me wrong... I'm grateful to have stuff to dig through! I just hope my Garage Band files are intact and recoverable.)
Has anyone had success saving Garage Band files with Data Rescue II?
    Thanks in advance.

    Aaaagh!
I spoke too soon. Yes,I did indeed find the file that contained all the files I needed to retrieve (using Disk Rescue II). When my 6-hour download of the 78 GB folder finished, I check the files again, and they weren't located in the orphaned section, but in the Hard Drive section under the normal directory, in a folder called .Trashes - within that there was another folder called "501", which contained all the Garageband files I needed to retrieve. However, when I tried to open the downloaded "rescued" files, they were inside a folder called "Macintosh HD", which could not be opened, and I got a message that said "Could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges." Not only that, but even after 6 hours of (apparently) downloading the 78 GB folder, my hard drive, which had close to 83 GB of free space, said STILL had almost that same amount.
So did it download anything or not? What was it doing all those 6 hours? I have a file that I can't open, but apparently it's going to be empty anyway.
Here's the full story, for anyone with the patience to listen and offer advice. It looks like now I'm looking for a way to 1) get the permissions to open the .trashes file so that I can download everything, or 2) figure out a way to get Disk Rescue II to open the files and download them regardless of the permissions.
    Full Story -
I am pretty sure that my computer crash was caused by working with the newest version of Garageband 08. Ever since buying it and loading it, my computer has been acting funny whenever I use the Garage Band program - I could only record about one in three attempts since the computer kept freezing as soon as I finished recording a line. I would have to use force restart to get going again.
The day the computer crashed, I was working on a Garage Band project, which kept crashing, and I was also using Finale, Microsoft Word, and iTunes -- all of which are my normal procedure and I'd never had any problems with anything before loading the new Garage Band 08. (See my posts on other discussion topics for more details). After the last freeze, the computer crashed totally and could not be restarted - it would get to the gray screen with the spinning gear and just sit there while the fans ramped up to overload.
I used Disk Warrior to rescue whatever files I could onto an external hard drive, and I started to download all the Garage Band files. However, the "estimated time to completion" said over 6 hours , so I stopped the download after a minute or so and went on to rescue all the other files that were smaller in size and easier to download - I figured I'd set Disk Warrior to download the whole 78 GB set of Garage Band files overnight while I slept. But....when I went back to begin the download again, I noticed that the directory of Garage Band files went only to the letter "C" instead of all the way to "Z" like my original files had done during that earlier attempt to download. I am assuming that somehow, the directory for the files I download before aborting the attempt (A-C) got exchanged with the directories of the original version (A-Z), but the original directory was no where to be found.
I decided to try an archive install in the hopes that I could just restart my computer and get the files out by hand. The archive install went fine, and the computer started up fine and got to the log-in screen, which had changed. I now had two blanks - one for user name and one for password, instead of the choices of names. I tried all my user names and passwords, and asked my wife for her names and passcodes, but nothing worked. The computer had apparently re-set all its permissions and User accounts. I tried using Disk Utility to reset the password in its opening screens, but instead of getting several User options, the only one it allowed me to attempt was "System Administrator (root)", and even that wouldn't let me in to change any passwords.
That's when I downloaded Data Rescue II, which does seem to do a good job of locating lost files. However, since I didn't have permissions to open the computer the last time, I am still apparently facing the same thing when I try to access files copies OFF the computer.
So I'm not out of the woods yet. I can see the files on the Data Rescue screen, but I don't know whether they have permissions tied to them or not, and if they do, whether the system would let me since I don't know what the passwords and user names have defaulted back to.
    Any advice? Please?

  • To even use garage band?

    A few quick questions.
I dont use garage band yet and I plan on buying an apple in a few days.
    1) Can I plug my instrument (guitar/bass) into an interface like the Fast Track Pro and use Garage Band?
    2) Do I have to use an amp for this, or can I just plug in directly?
    3) Can you change the effects of the guitar using Garage Band? Such as change from clean to distortion?
    Thanks a lot

You'll love it - I don't even use an interface (had a fastrack and an AUDIO BUDDY pre-amp) but didn't even need em' - I get a hot signal going straight in with a 1/4" -> 1/8" adapter (Radio Shack - $5) - my LP has stock HB's - my Imac has some sort of pre-amp in it cause my signal sounds great with GB, Amplitube, Guitar Rig, etc.
Garageband fives you a bunch of amps and different effects too - fully tweakable and allows you to use AU plug-ins too. The JAM PACKS give you even more amps. I also run my Zoom G2 directly in too and use it's amps and effects sometimes... Garageband is a guitar players DREAM COME TRUE!
