can i use iCloud for pages documents iMac?

Hi lmdavis72,
It looks like you can.
From "iCloud: Documents in the Cloud overview"
You can download a document from icloud.com/iwork to your Mac or Windows computer, edit it, and then drag the revised version to icloud.com/iwork. It’s then automatically updated on all of your iOS devices. You can also drag an iWork ’09 (Keynote, Pages, and Numbers) or Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) document created on your computer to icloud.com/iwork.
So it looks like it can go between iOS devices and your iMac.

I am using MS Office 2010 and Windows XP Professional, can I use iCloud for backup of my files and documents? I am planning to transition to a Mac so using the iCloud seems to make the most sence.

No, it is not a backup method at all.  If you delete a sync'd file on any device, you delete it permanently from iCloud.  That by its very essence is not a backup solution therefore.  A backup solution does not automatically and simultaneiously delete the file everywhere when it is deleted from the original source.
iCloud is strictly a syncronization tool for using files on multiple internet connected devices.

I have recently begun to use Pages and want to transfer a document between the iPad and my PC. I can transfer to the iPad, but not the other way, and am told I do not have sufficient 'privileges'. What does this mean? Also I can't use iCloud with Pages between the iPad and PC,  although I purchased extra storage in order to do this.

If you have a PC, you don't have Pages on it. You can transfer Pages presentations to/from iCloud via http://www.icloud.com , however -- you just won't have an app on your PC to deal with Pages documents. Make sure that you have your iCloud account properly configured on your iPad.

Can I use iCloud for backup?

To back up all your data you are better off getting an external hard drive.  For details on iCould, read: http://www.apple.com/icloud/.

  • On settings if you activate use iCloud for Pages, then when you try to open Pages (on both iphone 5 and iPad3) the program quits instantly.

Pages does not work properly if you choose to use ICloud in Settings in both the iphone 5 and Ipad 3. In fact when you click open, Pages opens momentarily and then Quits. If you de-activate use ICloud for pages in Settings then the program works but you cannot access icloud.

Thanks David for your suggestion. However I tried this before I submitted my problem but to no avail. I think the problem could be in iCloud interface with Pages! Hope apple would look into this soon!

  • How can I use iCloud with Pages?

How can I use iCloud with Pages?  Not offered as a Save option.

You are stating you have MacOs 10.6.8 and iCloud isn't available with that system.

  • Using iCloud for Pages only?

I have an older Mac that doesn't support iCloud.  I'd like to be able to use iCloud with Pages strictly for my iOS devices.  Is it possible to use iCloud just for Pages without giving up the ablility to backup to my Mac?  I'd just like to use the 'documents in the cloud' feature.

In icloud's settings, just be sure backup is not turned on, but Documents is.  System Preferences>iCloud.

  • How can I use iCloud for storage without duplication problems?

I recently set up iCloud to use on my Mac and PC.  With the exception of a single data file that I have stored in the cloud (as a working data file) that I use both on my Mac and PC....I want to use the rest of my 20 gigs of space on iCloud for storage/backup purposes only.  However, I have very little experience with iCloud; and it doesn't seem entirely intuitive to use iCloud.
For example, if I store all of my music and pictures on iCloud, how do I stop Itunes and iphoto from duplicating the results of each music and picture file in those programs?  I ask this question because I have seen iTunes act up way too many times (in other circumstances) when it creates duplicate music files.
Just to be clear, I want everything to remain on my local hard drive.  I only want to use iCloud for storage/backup only.  So, again, how do I stop iTunes and iPhoto from reading music and photo files once I successfully get them on iCloud?  (I am thinking I have to hide the archived files once I get them in iCloud, but unsure about how I go about doing that).  And here's my second question.  To upload my personal music and picture files to iCloud, can I simply drag and drop them into the iCloud drive on my computer and assume they will be successfully uploaded?
My second question seems kind of basic too.  But, once again, iCloud does not seem entirely intuitive to use for a beginner.  For example, I recently purchased some music from the Itunes store.  And while I have it downloaded on my harddrive (like I wanted it)......I don't see it on the iCloud drive (on my computer)....nor do I see it when I log into icloud.com on the web site.  Thanks for any replies.

If you have a Mac signed into your account running iPhoto, you might want to check iPhoto>Preferences>iCloud to make sure Automatic Upload isn't checked.  If it is checked, all new photos added to iPhoto are automatically added to your photo stream.

  • Can i use icloud for business

can i use icloud as a form of storage for mac computers for a small business as a way to share files sort of like dropbox?

    No, use Dropbox, or SugarSync.
And think about the wisdom of 'free' services for a business.

  • Cant use iCloud for Pages on web

I have Pages on my Mac, iPad and iPhone. I have iCloud enabled on all three. I want to edit my Pages documents that are currently on my Mac on my iPad. When I go to the https://www.icloud.com/#iwork page where I had hoped to be able to upload my docs I only have an option to 'Learn more' or 'Get Pages for iOS'. No option to upload my docs which is what all the documentation seems to imply. Clicking the 'Get Pages for iOS' takes me to iTunes where I see that I already have downloaded Pages.
Anyone know where I'm going wrong ?

iCloud.com isn't seeing the iWork apps on your iOS devices.
Check that iCloud is properly enabled and using the same account details as iCloud.com.
I read elsewhere that logging in as [email protected] as opposed to [email protected] fixed similar problems for some users. Tried this on iCloud.com but when I click on my name on the top right of the home page it still says [email protected] Cant see how to sign out of iCloud on my iPhone - 'Delete Account' looks a bit potentially drastic. Does this mean removing account details on the device or deleting my entire account?
Going through all the settings on my iPad, there is one place where me.com is used, in my iCloud Account Information->Advanced->Mail. However I cant see how to edit this.
Not sure what more to do to 'properly enable' it.
Check that the iOS iWork apps are up to date.
Pages is up to date on all three devices
Try reinstalling the iWork apps on your iOS devices.
Have deleted Pages from my iPad. When I went to App Store->Purchased Pages did not appear. Synced with iTunes to load it and had same result in iCloud.com (ie just options to Learn more or get Pages for iOS). Deleted it from the iPad again and repurchased it from Apple (had to actually pay again). Previous documents reappeared on iPad but iCloud still doesnt notice that I have bought it.
Not the usual high quality that I expect from Apple. Bad enough that iCloud/Pages isn't fully integrated yet, pathetic that it doesn't work at all for me.

  • Can i use iCloud for connecting a mac mini with a macbook?

I want to know if the connection between mac mini and a macbook is possible.
Or do i have to use an i phone as well?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can sync calendars, contacts and mail between computers.
Documents requires mobile versions of iWork to work, but If you want to upload documents that aren't for use with iOS devices this User Tip might be of interest.

  • Pages ePub export - Can I use TOC for page breaks?

I want to export a Pages file to ePub. Things work *almost* perfectly, except the page breaks disappear.
I've read a few other threads, such as this one, that say that Pages uses the *first* style from the TOC to make page breaks. That doesn't work great for me, since I have multiple styles in my TOC that should all be page breaks.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3722549?start=0&tstart=0
Is there any way to force pages to use multiple styles from the TOC as page breaks, or will I have to enter them manually? Thanks.
**Edit:** I noticed that the chapters are actually occurring correctly. So I guess what I want is to force the epub to start each chapter on a new page. Is that possible?

    Fair enough.
I used the word "chapter" because that's what the epub document calls them, but section is a better word. Some headings look like this
    Test 29
    Section I - Logical Reasoning
    Test 30
    Section II - Reading Comprehsion
    Passage I - Wine
    Test 32
    Section I - Reading Comprehension
    Passage I - Wine
Sometimes the Test # should appear in the TOC ( if it's the first section from that test) and other times it shouldn't. As things stand, I had to remove the Test # from the headings where the Test # doesn't appear in the TOC. Because a new section starts from the line styled to appear in the TOC, I was getting:
    "Test 30
    <section/chapter break>
    Section II - Reading Comprehension"

  • TS3991 Can I use iCloud for Word Docs?

I'd like to be able to have my MS Word work documents updated seamlessly between my MacBook Pro and my desktop at home.  Is that possible?  Thanks!

Yes, you can add word documents to the Pages iCloud window. In fact you can add any document to iCloud through text edit, preview etc.

  • Can I use iCloud for sending and receiving emails from my own domain name?

    Hello,
Hope that someone can help me please.
I have my own unique registered domain name.
Currently I am using the gmail server to transmit and receive email - I am using Mail on a MacBook, and an iPhone.  Works just fine.
However, I was wondering if the iCloud can be set up to also provide this same function?
If so how do we achieve this?
    Appreciate your comments and advice.

Please ignore this question. Or tell me how to delete it.

  • Can i use iCloud for my small business

I have a small business with 50 employees and want to know if iCloud could be used as an alternative to 365?

iCloud is designed for single person use, and isn't intended for business use. Some business do use it, but there is limited support in the event of problems. If you were thinking of using the @icloud.com email service I would advise against it - apart from lack of support it shows that you are using a free service which doesn't give a good impression. You would be better off with an email service tailored to business users, with proper support and a guaranteed uptime, and getting your own domain for the address,
As to the syncing and other facilities provided by iCloud, though a small number of people might be able to use them I'm not sure that it would cope with 50. I've an idea there is a limit to the number of devices. iCloud drive, due in the autumn with Yosemite and iOS8, may or may not handle this  - we don't know yet; but I still think that for any size of business iCloud is a dubious proposition.
