Can I use Icloud on a ipad that has not been registered yet. I just purchased it and can not find it

Can someone please help me. I have a brand new Ipad that is not yet registered and can not find it. I only have the box.

Unless "Find My iPad" is activated on the iPad sadly you won't be able to locate it

We would like to have all our music, photos, etc. on the iPad - is it best to create a new combined Apple ID for the iPad and simply upload our music, photos, etc. via our laptop instead? Does this not then render the iCloud useless to us?

And just in case you were wondering, installing one purchased copy on all the Macs you own is specifically called out as allowed in the Mac OS X Lion license.
If you do not want to download multiple times, just copy the Applications -> Install Lion app to a safe place BEFORE you do the first install.  Then copy that copy to any Mac you own where you want to install Lion.

  • I would like to know if you have to back up a macbook hard drive, can I use a external hard drive that has been previously used to back up several pc 's, or is it best to have a separate external drive for the Mac?

I would like to know if you have to back up a macbook hard drive, can I use a external hard drive that has been previously used to back up several pc 's, or is it best to have a separate external drive for the Mac?

In the Mac side of things, backups usually come in two flavors: clones or incrementals.
A bootable clone is a bit-for-bit copy of all essential files in the startup volume. If using the Lions, clones can be made using CarbonCopyCloner or just plain old Disk Utility. These backups represent the safest protection of your info, but take the longest to do. Recovery is an inverse process: you copy the clone back into the internal drive.
Incremental backups start with a complete backup of the startup volume and only copy whatever changed from the previous run. OS X includes the fully integrated Time Machine backup utility to do this. It is extremely easy to do and takes the least amount of time. Recovery is another matter altogether since you have to start with a freshly installed instance of the OS and have to apply all intervening backups to bring the result to the latest saved version.
As for where the backup takes place, the recommended media is an external dedicated drive or drives connected via the fastest interface available on your Mac: Thunderbolt, USB3, Firewire, or USB2. Network-based backups, wired or wireless, are attractive but may not offer the same performance and hence take longer. Also important to note that the entire drive need not be completely dedicated to a single backup. The Mac's EFI firmware infrastructure allows for an unlimited number of partitions on a hard drive and each can be used for either type of backups.
Holler if you need specifics on how to do each. This was just an executive summary.

  • What can i use instead of microsoft word that has the same capabilities for school work etc

what can i use instead of microsft word that has the same capabilities so i can do school work etc.

You could use LibreOffice which is a free open source Office clone. The only downside is that by default it ddoesn't save in Office formats, you have to specifically choose that option. GoogleDocs is another free Office like product.

i have a 1st generation ipad and wish to move my photos to a new ipod can it be done using icloud or is there another way??

You can restore the iPod from the backup of the iPad and that will transfer all of the photos in the camera roll to the iPod, but it will also transfer all of the app files and device settings from the iPad to the iPod. This would be in effect using iCloud if you backup with iCloud.

You can also import the photos to your computer, place them into the photos folder that you sync from in iTunes and sync them to the iPod.

There are also apps that you can use to send the photos over WiFi from one device to another. Look at Wireless Transfer App in the App Store.

  • Is there any way to backup an ios4.3.5 ipad that has NEVER been backed up or synched?

I've really messed and have never backed up or synched my ipad with IOS 4.3.5. I have heard that I will have to use software other than Apple's to accomplish a backup. I've already tried to go through Itunes with the ipad attached to my computer, but, of course, no go without erasing everything. Can someone give me advice about alternate software. I realize that once the backup is complete, I will need to update my IOS. Will I then be asked if I want to restore from the backup?

    - Just transfer the apps and iBooks to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
In iTunes 11 use Control+B to show the Menu bar then go to iTunes>File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
    - Preferences and photos taken by the iPad are included in the backup that iTunes makes

  • Is there anyway to retrieve the contents from a password protected iPad that has now been disabled and can prove that I purchased it?

I let my friend use my other iPad 2 2011 Model and I have the receipt and bank statement to prove it, Unfortunately she passed away early this year and her last pictures of her and of her daughter is on that iPad and now it is now displaying "iPad Disabled, Connect to iTunes" and I do not have her computer, since the cops still have it and I didnt purchase that, so I have no access to her computer that she synced the iPad with. I tried connecting to my computer and it says "iTunes could not connect to the iPad ___________because it is locked with a passcode You must enter your passcode on that iPad before it can used with iTunes" Anything I can do so I can save her data like pictures, messages, notes, videos, etc before I wipe it? It the last pictures anyone will have of her and the only pictures of her daughter when she was 1 years old, Please Someone Give Me Some Good News?

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

  • How do you change your user name associated with the app store on the iphone 3G. When attempting to update, it is using an old email address that has since been changed at the apple site. The problem is that my phone does not seem to recognize this.

I have exausted my ideas, and turn to the forum, prior to paying for something that may be a 2second simple fix. Please help if you can. Let me know if you need more info to understand my dilema.
    Thanks.

Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them.  You will always be asked for the password associated with this ID when updating apps, regardless of whether or not you are using this ID for current purchases.  The only way to stop this is to delete the old apps from your phone and iTunes and repurchase them with your current ID.
Edit: to change the ID used for future purchases on your phone, go to Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID shown, sign out, sign back in using the new ID.  As explained above, you will still be prompted with the old ID when updating apps purchase with the older ID.

  • On a Mac w/ Lion 10.7.2 - Firefox 7.0.1 doesn't see (so can't use) the Quicktime Plugin (it is in the Internet plugin folder in the Library folder and Safari does find it and use it) Any thoughts on getttig it to work w/ Firefox?

trying to play the ads on the Apple website get a message that I need quicktime

I encountered the same type of problem. Firefox running terribly slowly and slowing down my entire machine (Core i5 with 256GB SSD). Searching the forums, I found a couple of things about troubleshooting performance issues, one of which was to use '''hardware acceleration''', that is on by default. It was turned on on my PC, '''so I tried deactivating it, and it worked!'''
So doing the exact opposite as Mozilla support said solved the problem. It is really a pain now to work with Firefox. I'm using it because I have no choice, but I'd recommend IE and Chrome over Firefox... Whatever, the market will decide once Firefox has become to crappy...

  • How do I change the apple id that has alreadys been registered in apps on my iPad

    I need help

I'm not 100% certain what you're asking but I suspect that it may not be possible.  You CAN change the Apple ID in Settings > Store.  Touch the ID and you will be given the option of changing it.  However, this does not affect any apps that you have already purchased.  If you have purchased apps using another ID, you will need to remember the password for that ID because you will need it when the apps are to be updated.
There are a bazillion of us with multiple IDs and no way to combine them.

  • HT4623 How do I update my iOS on my iPad that has 5.1 ?  When I go to settings and update, it says everything is up to date as 5.1 iOS. :-(

I need to update the iOS on my iPad.  There is no option under the settings, general section.

A first generation iPad can't be updated past 5.1.1. Any device running an iOS version prior to 5.0 must be updated from iTunes on a computer, and if possible, the one it normally syncs with.

  • Can a device that has once been registered for replacement be re-registered?

    Hello!
I have an ipod nano 1st gen. About a year ago I listed it for replacement through the replacement program. I received the package with instructions from apple, however, I was unable to post the ipod at that time. At one point, the replacement status expired. Is it possible to relist the device for replacement? I have since moved country from Norway to Estonia.
    Note:
Before deciding to post this question in the forums, I was looking for apple support's e-mail for ca. half an hour and I couldn't find it. Is it not possible to contact apple customer support by e-mail?
    Thanks in advance,
    H. Arro
