Can I use icloud to find my iphone3g?

HI,
We just gave our daughter our old iPhone3G running 4.2 How can we set it up so we can log into icloud on a computer, and locate it using the Find my Iphone service? I used to be able to do this when I used it and had a Mobile me account a year or two back. Surely there is a clever workaround out there to let us 'find our iphone3g'.

If you have already setup 'Find My iPod' you can try that, if you did not set it up prior to losing the iPod you can't.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your country code does not appear in the list…
Go to System Preferences > iCloud > Keychain and enter your Apple ID password (Settings > iCloud > Keychain, from a mobile device)
Select the ‘Create Different Code’ option. (Mobile devices only)
Select the advanced option and choose whether to create a random code or no code, selecting the later allows syncing across devices but not with Apple’s servers.

I have just started with iCloud, and run into a problem from my PC.

I have a desktop that operates using with Vista.
I downloaded 10.5 and sought to sync my two iphones and two ipads with the desktop in order to use ICloud. However I got warning messages that if I synced with this computer that had none of my extensive library of apps, music, podcasts, etc. would be on it, I would lose it all.
I did authorize the computer. I knew enough to do that but am terrified that I will lose everything that I have accumulated and still won't be able to use ICloud.
Isn't there a way to do this? Shift my library FROM my devices to the desktop?

This is a tedious solution, which is stupid! And some users report an inability to reauthorize a computer after an "en masse” deauthorization. I can’t believe Apple doesn’t provide a list or menu to find out which computers you’ve authorized! Obviously, APPLE knows (or else they couldn’t tell us how many computers we have authorized)--so why can’t they give us access to that information about our own computers??!!!
And for an already-authorized computer with a hard drive that’s since been replaced and upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite, would it be recognized as a “new computer” and require authorization? Would its previous incarnation (i.e., with the old hard drive and OS) be considered a separate computer? Some users report they can’t authorize a computer after an OS upgrade because of that. Can’t believe we have to do such a bass-ackwards kludge!

The links do not explain how I get the thousands of pictures I have accumulated on my PC over the years up into the iCloud. I have 25gb of storage space there.
Are you certain this is possible? If so, could shed a little more light on how to do it.
Btw, everything on my iPhone is bouncing back and forth to the iCloud and to Outlook perfectly. It's just my legacy photos that I don't know how to deal with.

Logic isn't compatible with iCloud, so you have to save files on both computers

For this you will need to find a different host, for example the ftp-site of your internet provider. Export your web galleries to your hard drive and upload them to your new web host using ftp (I use Cyber Duck for this).

Yes I know, but I want it to be used as external storage, not something where I store copies of stuff that I have already on my macbook
But iCloud Drive is not an external storage. It is a common storage that is synced and shared between all connected devices, and it is always available, even when you are not connected to the internet.
What you want to do is not possible with iCloud Drive.
