Can I use iCloud to store my music to free up space on my computer?

The idea is to upload/match all of my songs so I can take them off my hard drive. Music is taking up way too much space. Is it possible to do that?

iTunes match is a true streaming service when it comes to playback from your PC. That means, you can load everything into the cloud and stream from the cloud to your PC.
To an iPhone or iPad, it's stream-and-save, meaning it will download and play immediately, but it will be saved to the device.
So yes, you can load everything up (assuming it all loads properly without problems) and stream to your PC.

  • Can I use iCloud to store photos I want to delete from my iPhone 5s?

    Good day.
I want to free up space on my 16G iPhone 5s.  All of my photos are stored on iCloud, however, when I delete a photo from my iPhone 5s, it also deletes in iCloud.  Is there a way to use iCloud as a way to store photos that I don't want on my iPhone any longer, but I want to save?
Note:  The photos on my iPhone 5s are all on iPhoto on my iMac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.3.  I have not opened the "photos" app which appeared on the doc when the system upgraded to OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 as I'm not sure how this will affect the whole "delete from my iPhone, but keep in iCloud" dilemma.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    C. Gray

iCloud isn't designed as a cloud-only storage method. The closest you can get is to change a setting to optimize storage on your iPhone so that a smaller "device-size version" is kept on your phone. See the quote below from iCloud Photo Library FAQ - Apple Support
Can I use iCloud Photo Library to save space on my device?
iCloud Photo Library automatically keeps all your photos and videos in the original, high-resolution version. Follow these steps to choose how you store your photos and videos on your device:
In iOS, tap Settings > iCloud > Photos or Settings > Photos & Camera, then select a storage setting.
In OS X, click Photos > Preferences > iCloud, then select a storage setting.
If you turn on Optimize [device] Storage, iCloud Photo Library will automatically manage the size of your library on your device, so you can make the most of your device's storage and access more photos than ever. All of your original, full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud while device-size versions are kept on your device. You can download the original photos and videos over Wi-Fi or cellular when you need them.
If you turn on Download Originals, iCloud Photo Library will keep your original, full-resolution photos and videos in iCloud and on your device. Download Originals is the default setting for iOS devices with the free 5 GB storage plan and for all Mac devices.

  • Can I use Icloud to store and share other files, with other Mac users?

Hello, I was just wondering if I could use iCloud to store and share files with other Mac users over the internet? Thanks!

I would suggest re posting in the iCloud for Mac forum where all the people in here that are experts with that hang out.  Good luck.

  • Can I use iCloud to store photos from iPhone and Mac?

I would like to use iCloud like Dropbox. I have photos that were taken on my iphone and photos that are loaded on my Mac from a camera that I would like to store in the Cloud. I would also like others be able to download their photos of this event to the same Icloud account. Is that possible?.

The only way you can store photos in iCloud indefinitely is if you add them to a shared stream.  However, when you do this, the photo will be at a lower resolution than the originals.
My photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days, allowing enough time for all your devices to receive them.  The only other photos in iCloud are camera roll photos stored in your backup.  However, you can't see anything in the backup unless you restore it to your device.  Also, if you delete the photos from your device and continue to back it up, the backup that contains the deleted photos will be overwritten by one that doesn't, and they wil be lost.

  • Can i use icloud to restore my music if i lose my hard drive?

The drivers on my HP laptop have malfunctioned and the Geek Squad has not been able to restore them.  They want to try something that would erase my hard drive (which i am an idiot for not backing up)  I have recently subscribed to the iCloud match service and was wondering if i would be able to get all my music (the only important thing i have stored on my pc) back from the cloud?

No. You can play your music anywhere

  • HT204053 Can I use iCloud to share data (music, photos, etc.) with my wife's apple ID as well as mine?

My wife and I have separate Apple IDs for our phones.  Is there a way to access photos taken in each device through iCloud without having to sync each device manually.  I would like to be able to share photos without having to sync each time.

You can share photos with your wife with iCloud's "Shared Photo Stream" option (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4379), but you cannot share music files between different Apple ID's.

  • Can I use icloud on Mac OS 10.6.8

MMac 10.6..8 OSs, have huge itunes library, can I use icloud to store these files

iCloud requires OS X 10.7.5 or higher.  However, iTunes Match doesn't require an iCloud account, and can be subscribed to separately in iTunes (see iTunes Store: Subscribing to iTunes Match).
Also, while you can use iTunes Match to store your music in iCloud and delete it from your Mac, it isn't recommended.   Before you do, be sure to read this first: FAQ: Why iTunes Match Can Not Be Used as a Backup.

  • Can I use icloud to transfer music purchased on my iphone to my PC with icloud?

I'm just wondering if I can use icloud to transfer purchases (music) made from itunes on my iphone to my PC? I know that if I turn on icloud with my other Apple devices it will sync to them & I believe I have icloud on my PC. But I'm not even sure if it works like that...to automatically put them on my PC when I buy music on my iphone. So I'm just wondering if it's possible & if it is- how do I do it? I DO have icloud on my iphone & it is updated.

Step 1. Open iTunes on the computer.
Step 2. Click Store and choose Authorize This Computer… from its drop-down menu.
Step 3. Enter the Apple ID and password that you have used to purchase the music.
Step 4. Connect your iPad air to the computer.
Step 5. Go to DEVICES and right click your iPad air. In the drop-down menu, click Transfer Purchases.
Step 6. Wait until the transfer is complete.
You can follow this link or the guide below:

How to Transfer Music from iPhone to Computer
If you purchased music with multiple Apple IDs, you have to authorize the computer for all of them. However, you're allowed to authorize up to 5 computers with one Apple ID. That means you have to look for other methods when you have already authorized 5 computers.

  • The computer I use for Itunes only has XP so I can't use ICloud. My desktop has Vista so I can use it. But I don't want to lose all of what I have on my Iphone 4S and my two Ipads. How can I use the desktop and retain the apps, music, podcasts etc. I have

The computer I use for Itunes (my laptop) only has XP so I can't use ICloud:(
I have a desktop that operates using with Vista.
I downloaded 10.5 and sought to sync my two iphones and two ipads with the desktop in order to use ICloud. However I got warning messages that if I synced with this computer that had none of my extensive library of apps, music, podcasts, etc. would be on it, I would lose it all.
I did authorize the computer. I knew enough to do that but am terrified that I will lose everything that I have accumulated and still won't be able to use ICloud.
Isn't there a way to do this? Shift my library FROM my devices to the desktop?
    Thanks

This is a tedious solution, which is stupid!  And some users report an inability to reauthorize a computer after an "en masse” deauthorization.  I can’t believe Apple doesn’t provide a list or menu to find out which computers you’ve authorized! Obviously, APPLE knows (or else they couldn’t tell us how many computers we have authorized)--so why can’t they give us access to that information about our own computers??!!!
And for an already-authorized computer with a hard drive that’s since been replaced and upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite, would it be recognized as a “new computer” and require authorization? Would its previous incarnation (i.e., with the old hard drive and OS) be considered a separate computer? Some users report they can’t authorize a computer after an OS upgrade because of that. Can’t believe we have to do such a bass-ackwards kludge!

Call Apple's online store's telesales agents: 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775. For Lion you'll get a redemptions code via e-mail and need to DL from the Mac Apple Store (requires SL 10.6.6+).

Many thanks JEM24 for your help.  Ive just spent the best part of six hundred pounds on a new Sony Rx100m2 compact camera, so I have no interest in the Ipods camera at all really. I doubt Ill be watching many videos on it as Im very lucky in that I have a good Android tablet. Its more as a stock music player that Ill be buying the Ipod for, if indeed I do end up buying one. I dont like the idea of paying the exorbitant amount added for more memory space that Apple along with most other companies charge. In fact I read an article on this very subject just yesterday in the tech section of Flipboard. It stated in the article that in the case of the Iphone  the actual cost of each additional  gigabyte of storage  to Apple et al is something in the order of 60p.. This is certainly not reflected in the price us the customer has to pay at the till.. Its for this reason primarily that Apple in particular, because their products do not allow adding expandable memory of your own in the form of cheap to buy cards, that nobody in their right mind buys the 64gig etc Iphones..I am aware that we are discussing my potential purchase of an Ipod Touch here but you see my point. Many thanks again though for helping me.
