Am I able to use or download Internet explorer on iMac

Microsoft has not written IE for Mac for many years.
An alternative is to use VMWare (virutualization software) or use BootCamp located in HD > Applications > Utiliites to create a partition where you can install Windows but that's major undertaking for just running IE on your Mac.
Another alternative, using Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select: Show Develop menu in menu bar
Then from the Safari menu bar click Developer > User Agent then try IE 9, 8, or 7. No guarantees that will help.

Safari or Firefox are the optimal choices. At times Safari does not open links with smooth pagination of fonts and lettering / graphics are not clear. So I opt for Firefox. Be aware that you need to close Safari to use Firefox. It has been my experience.that if I forget to close Safari and open Firefox at same time Firefox error message says oops! We need to reset or can't open try again.

Microsoft never developed Internet Explorer 6 for the Mac platform. The latest version I believe was 5.2.
So in other words, you need a Windows based computer to view that site or AOL 9.

Edit: Since you're using Panther and IE was still bundled with the Panther install discs (I'm almost positive), pop in the Panther install disc and see if you can find it on there through the use of Pacifist, if necessary.

I am having endless problems with Safari - "cannot find www.google.com" or click on a link in a website "cannot connect to xx - you are not connected to the internet" - which I am!! The latter even within Apple Communities!
To check I went back to my old PC with Internet Explorer and had and have had no such problems!

Internet Explorer is not available for Mac.
But you can make Safari pretend to be Internet Explorer in some cases.
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
    Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
    "Develop" menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
    Click Develop, move mouse down to "User Agent".
    Select Internet Explorer from popup on the rightside.
    After using Internet Explorer, revert back to Safari, doing the same routine.

iCloud is not supported on Snow Leopard or lower, why bother to mention it?
The OP has an iCloud account, and that can not be opened without Lion or Mountain Lion (on a Mac), IOS5 or 6 (on an iPhone/iPad)

The best way to run any version of IE is to run it in Windows on a virtual machine like VirtualBox... it will be fully compatible since your actually running Windows.
You can also take a program like Wineskin (free) or Crossover (not free), and use it to run IE6 or IE7, but IE 8 and 9 won't run yet, and even 6 and 7 have a few minor issues here and there.

If you have two-step verification turned on in Hotmail, you'll have to log in with a browser and turn it off.
