Can I use iOS mail without SMTP?

Greetings,
I am using iPhone 5s and iPad Mini, both with iOS 8.3.
My question is this: Can I use something other than the iCloud SMTP server in order to use the native iOS mail app on my iPhone and iPad? (i.e. [email protected])
I work for a public company that offers free wifi to its customers. Our IT staff blocks email over SMTP so that people can't come in and use our wifi to send spam/junk mail through our servers. I have Gmail and Yahoo addresses that I would like to condense into my one iOS address. But since I spend a majority of my day at work, I am not able to send or receive messages due to the SMTP blockage. This does not affect iCloud.com which is accessed through a hard wired connection on my desk, but I am not always at my desk, hence the need for iOS mail portability.
I've checked online for an answer and can't seem to find one. I was told by our IT staff to configure the mail setting to go through a cloud server instead of SMTP but I don't know if that's possible.
I would appreciate any information or insight you can offer.
Thanks and best wishes,
-Jason

You do not get to pick which servers to use when you subscribe to someone else's email service. Gmail, Apple, Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail, MS Live all use SMTP to send from their user accounts.  You can use any of those systems with the iOS mail app, but they all use SMTP relay to send from your device to their internal mail sending system (which may not use SMTP, but the only way for you to get an outgoing mail into their system is to use SMTP). If your company blocks all SMTP traffic, then you'll never be able to send from a subscriber email service on a wifi device with a dynamic IP.
You also cannot "condense" (whatever that means - merge?) any other proprietary email service you use (like Gmail or Yahoo) with another proprietary email service like Apple's. These are separate services run by independent companies.
You should be able to use your browser to use Gmail or Yahoo or another service via their web interface though. When logged in via the web page, you are not sending mail from your device at all, but directly from the service providers system.

  • IPhoto 11 (9.2.1) can't use iCloud Mail smtp server for email.

iPhoto 11 (9.2.1) can't use iCloud Mail smtp server for email.  "The email server didn't recognise username/password combination".  Both appear correct in preferences/accounts.  Mail sends and receives messages perfectly.
(This problem also occurs when trying to send from Thunderbird, however both iPhoto and Thunderbird can send perfectly well using the Gmail server).

    Hi there
I should explain that I have 5 days experience of the iMac but have had a working iCloud account with my iPad for several months.  I don't think this is an iCloud issue as such. My thought is that this is something to do with the Mail application itself and its relationship to my Apple ID etc. (Perhaps when the iMac first configured itself?)
I have deleted and manually reset both Mail and iPhone account settings for iCloud using the Apple recommended settings and I have tentatively checked that the username/password combination is as expected in Keychain but I'm too much of an Apple novice to go any further with that.
On a PC I think I would try reinstalling the Mail programme but I don't see that as an option.

  • Can javamail use windows default outgoing smtp mail server and port?

how can i use windows default outgoing smtp service and port from javamail? is it possible to retrieve this info or just instruct javamail to use default?
    thanks

Windows doesn't have a default SMTP server. However if you have something like Outlook or Outlook Express or Eudora or Netscape Mail or whatever set up on your Windows box, you will have already told it what SMTP server it should connect to.
That information would be in the Windows registry, or in the config file of whatever e-mail client you already have set up. However it's probably easier to just have your application ask for the SMTP server's name again rather than trying to find where some other application stashed it.

can i use my iphone without a sim card as a ipod?

The SIM card is not required to use an iPhone as an iPod or to be used for anything else besides cell phone related services.
For a no longer activated iPhone, the no longer activated SIM card that was used with the iPhone when it was activated must be inserted in the iPhone in order to install an iOS update and for no other reason.

How can I use the gps without internet in my Ipad3 - 4G. Do I need to download any additional app than the one that already came with it?

The Maps app included in iOS, at least as of the current version, requires an Internet connection, so you'll need to get an app that allows you to download maps to be kept on the iPad. MotionX GPS Drive is one such app, but there are others available.

Yes. get a computer with iTune 10.5 and:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other stuff using a third-party program like one of those discussed here.  Most are good for music.  It is harder to find one for other stuff like synced photos.
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right-clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from backup and sync as neccessary.

Can I use iTunes Match without Genius turned on?  Genius is fine but Match then sends me additional music to my Libary that I don't want

Without a computer you will not be able to do any managing of the music in the cloud. There is no way to edit any metadata on an iOS device.
Also, iTunes Match is not a backup service and should not be relied up as such. With no computer you will not have any backups of your music.

If you are just visiting Singapore, then leave the account as it is. If you have moved there, then view your account using the iTunes app on a Mac or PC and change the country/region to your current location and address. If you do not have a bank card, you can fund your account using iTunes gift cards if available in Singapore.

  • HT2534 How can I use "Family Sharing" without giving details of my credit or debit card? I do not want to give my cards data, I have always used iTunes prepaid cards.

How can I use "Family Sharing" without giving details of my credit or debit card? I do not want to give my cards data, I have always used iTunes prepaid cards.

    Hi Saramos,
When setting up Family Sharing you must have a credit or debit card as your payment method. See this article for reference -
    Family purchases and payments
When a family member makes a purchase it will be billed to any gift or store credit that they have first. If none exists it will be billed to you.
As the family organizer, you may not set your billing method for purchases to anything other than a credit or debit card. If you have a store credit such as from pre-paid cards, it may not be shared with other family members. See this article for reference -
How iTunes Store purchases are billed
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

How can I use Office Update without the Office CD? On the microsoft website I've clicked the options which mean I shouldn't need the CD (which wasn't supplied with the laptop), but poartway through updating the service pack I get a request for the Office 2000 Professional CD.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi
Did you mean a Office or One Note?
As far as I know the One Note is a part of the Recovering Image and the CD is not delivered with the unit. Furthermore the Toshiba units are not delivered with the Office 2000 software.
Nevertheless, did you check the update function in the Help i.e. in Word?
There you will find a options called Check for Updates
