Can I use iphone 4 in China?

Here is my problem
I want to buy an iphone 4 but I dont know whether I can use in China or not. And about the locked and unlocked, what is that? How can I distinguish between them? Appreciate if someone could help me!

My 4 arrives was delivered to the UK today and will be here in Shanghai on wednesday next week. I bought a SIM free from one from the UK iStore. Cost was 500 GBP. I intend to use it on my ChinaMobile 'pay as you go' account with a chopped to size standard SIM card.
Turned on my cellular data function today using my old and tattered 2G iPhone in anticipation of the 4.
20 RMB a month for 150MB.
I will post next week and let you know if it works. If not I think, it'll make a nice bedside alarm clock...

    P.S: For the iphone 4S. is there any difference for the one from online shop or the actual store?

    iPhones purchased from the online Apple Store in Australia will be unlocked. To the best of my knowledge, unlocked iPhone are not available from the physical Apple Stores at this time, though you can call the Apple Store in Melbourne and inquire.
    Note that the warranty on iPhones is not international, so if you purchase an iPhone in Australia and it needs service, you would have to ship the iPhone to someone in Australia to take or send to Apple for service and then ship it back to you.

    There are contradicting theories about Sprint for international use - so I would stay away from the Sprint model in the US

    Thank you, I understand, yeah, I knew that, my phone is factory unlocked and I am going home, which is obviously not in the States and I am thinking of buying a local carrier there. However, I still have 2 weeks before I leave and cannnot wait to start using my Iphone 4. I thought at least I could use the mp3 player function.     The Magsafe autoswitches based on detected power.  You will likely need a wall adapter to alter ther US-based 3-prong to whatever is used in China.

    Yes u can. I upgrades my wife's phone and I use the new iphone 5 with my number.  Take it your carrier and get a different SIM card.  Bring your ID and u must be the primary account user.

    Yes in theory, though do check your phone contract small print and keep an eye on your data usage - in theory local data sent across the LAN created by the hotspot should not use 3G data but some carriers seem to treat it as internet data usage.

    cingular and at&t are the same company.
    in short here's what you need to use it in the phillippines: a cingular/at&t wireless account and international roaming turned on. oh and about $3/min i believe (not including data costs).

    Your phone is locked, but Apple DOES sell factory unlocked phones in the UK.
