i got a unlocked iphone 4s via U.S in october
the problem is that i am not able to use it in india, it showing me that sim card inserted in this iphone does not appear to be supported.Only comaptible sim cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iphone.
can u please guide me?

There are many posts about cutting down normal sim cards to the microsim profile which should work so long as you use one for a provider who supports the iPhone 3G/3GS. Their systems may detect that you're phone isn't supported and cut you off thought but the only way to tell is to try as it will depend on the provider.

Only the carrier to whom the device is locked can authorize it's unlocking. Contact the carrier to see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.

How can I use Iphone 4 as an mp3 player without a sim card until I get one? I just bought the phone and each time I try to switch it on to use the mp3 player, I cannot. It asks me to insert a sim card and I don't have a sim card yet. I was thinking I could use the mp3 player function of my phone until I buy a sim card.

Thank you, I understand, yeah, I knew that, my phone is factory unlocked and I am going home, which is obviously not in the States and I am thinking of buying a local carrier there. However, I still have 2 weeks before I leave and cannnot wait to start using my Iphone 4. I thought at least I could use the mp3 player function. Yes u can. I upgrades my wife's phone and I use the new iphone 5 with my number. Take it your carrier and get a different SIM card. Bring your ID and u must be the primary account user.

Yes in theory, though do check your phone contract small print and keep an eye on your data usage - in theory local data sent across the LAN created by the hotspot should not use 3G data but some carriers seem to treat it as internet data usage.

Check your Settings > Network Connections > Mobile Network > Network Technology to tell me what are your network choices listed as? 2G, 3G, etc?
You may need to get a new SIM card from Vodafone.

cingular and at&t are the same company.
in short here's what you need to use it in the phillippines: a cingular/at&t wireless account and international roaming turned on. oh and about $3/min i believe (not including data costs).
